She explores the processes and relationships through which state borders are made, remade, interpreted and contested by a range of actors including politicians, state officials, border guards, farmers and people whose lives involve the crossing of the borders. This timely and highly original collection of essays edited by noted scholar I. William Zartman is an attempt "to begin to understand both these areas and the interactions that occur within and across them"--that is, to understand how borders affect the groups living along them and the nature of the land and people abutting on and divided by boundaries. These essays highlight three defining features of border areas: borderlanders constitute an experiential and culturally identifiable unit; borderlands are characterized by constant movement (in time, space, and activity); and in their mobility, borderlands always prepare for the next move at the same time that they respond to the last one. The ten case studies presented range over four millennia and provide windows for observing the dynamics of life in borderlands. IV we have established the equations for compressible flow of gases and these can of course be used to deter mine when density changes in a gas flow are in fact negligible. Over the past ten years advances in the field of small Reynolds numbers flows and their technological and biological applications have given rise to several definitive monographs and textbooks in the area. In addition, the past three decades have witnessed enormous progress in describing quantitatively the behaviour of these particles. However, to the best of our knowledge, there are still no available books that reflect such achievements in the areas of bubble and drop deformation, hydrodynamic interactions of deformable fluid particles at low and moderate Reynolds numbers and hydrodynamic interactions of particles in oscillatory flows. Indeed, only one more book is dedicated entirely to the behaviour of bubbles, drops and rigid particles ["Bubbles, Drops and Particles" by Clift et al. (1978)] and the authors state its limitations clearly in the preface: "We treat only phenomena in which particle-particle interactions are of negligible importance. Hence, direct application of the book is limited to single-particle systems of dilute suspensions.

His most influential contributions to date are in the area of differential equations. Nieto received his degree in Mathematics from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 1980. He was then awarded a Fulbright scholarship and moved to the University of Texas at Arlington where he worked with Professor V. Lakshmikantham. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 1983. Nieto's work may be considered to fall within the ambit of differential equations, and his research interests include fractional calculus, fuzzy equations and epidemiological models. He is one of the world’s most cited mathematicians according to Web of Knowledge, and appears in the Thompson Reuters Highly Cited Researchers list. Nieto has also occupied different positions at the University of Santiago de Compostela, such as Dean of Mathematics and Director of the Mathematical Institute. He has also served as an editor for various mathematical journals, and was the editor-in-chief of the journal Nonlinear Analysis: Real World Applications from 2009 to 2012. In 2016, Nieto was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Galician Academy of Sciences. This book consists of contributions presented at the International Conference on Nonlinear Analysis and Boundary Value Problems, held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, 4th-7th September 2018.
