Book Synopsis Stories with Intent by : Klyne R. Snodgrass
Download or read book Stories with Intent written by Klyne R. Snodgrass and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2018-02-16 with total page 917 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2009 Christianity Today Award for Biblical Studies, Stories with Intent offers pastors and students a comprehensive and accessible guide to Jesus' parables. Klyne Snodgrass explores in vivid detail the historical context in which these stories were told, the part they played in Jesus' overall message, and the ways in which they have been interpreted in the church and the academy. Snodgrass begins by surveying the primary issues in parables interpretation and providing an overview of other parables—often neglected in the discussion—from the Old Testament, Jewish writings, and the Greco-Roman world. He then groups the more important parables of Jesus thematically and offers a comprehensive treatment of each, exploring both background and significance for today. This tenth anniversary edition includes a substantial new chapter that surveys developments in the interpretation of parables since the book's original 2008 publication.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Matthew chapter 13 is key to correctly understanding the specific time frame for the Second Coming and establishment of Messiah's Kingdom on earth and how the course of the present age will unfold and progress from the first coming of Christ until His return. Failure to properly understand these parables of Matthew 13 results in a failure to understand all the rest of the parables Jesus spoke after them as He so indicated in Luke 4:13. Therefore it behooves every Bible believing Christian to take serious study of the unfolding prophetic events of the present age as symbolized in the eight parables of Matthew 13. This simple exposition is a humble effort to help the Bible student and reader gain a better appreciation and understanding of this chapter as it pertains to those living in the present age as these prophetic parables are unfolding and being fulfilled right before our very eyes!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the reader to Robert Govett (1813-1901), dissenting clergyman and author, who wrote as a scholar of biblical prophecy, primarily on the subject of the "exclusion" of believers in the Millennial Kingdom, an idea of which he conceived. The purpose of the book is threefold: (1) to describe Govett, his life, and his printed work; (2) to analyze Govett's eschatological beliefs, especially those he originated; and (3) to investigate why a respected theologian in England, who had published over 180 books and tracts, disappeared from dissenting print culture early in the twentieth century. Govett's doctrine of exclusion was heavily intertwined with most of his writings. It was a topic that he developed throughout his career. Yet, as the center of dispensationalism shifted to America, Govett's views of the Rapture began to be seen as extreme. The book explains why Govett was eclipsed as the center of the evangelical movement shifted and its theology ossified. Since his death, Govett has been occasionally remembered in scholarship, but with increasing inaccuracies and skepticism. This book seeks to remove the mystery.

Download or read book Keys to the Kingdom written by Art Zacher and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2022-02-01 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No study of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ is complete without an understanding of the parables he taught. Most books that cover parables generally cover the better-known ones. They avoid the difficult, challenging, and obscure. Art Zacher and Doug Peterson break that tradition in this book, covering dozens of the parables spoken by Jesus. When Jesus shared these parables with individuals and groups, He challenged them to live a godly life—and that challenge is still relevant today. Each parable is set in its historic setting, with previous and following events noted. The authors reveal where Jesus spoke each parable, who His audience was, and what each one means. Each parable is classified with other parables on the same topic for easy reference. Get detailed insights on what Jewish people were thinking as they waited for their Messiah along with insights on the practical applications of Jesus’ teachings today with the lessons in Keys to the Kingdom.
