When Asahi's dorm suddenly burns down, her options are to live with her aunt far, far away (leaving no time for hanging out after school), or accept the class presidents' generous offer for her to move in to the smart kids' dorm, where she must pretend to be a stick-in-the-mud studier or lose her housing. But her first night there she helps a mysterious boy back into the dorm after he breaks curfew ... and she must decide if her crush is worth breaking the smart kids' rules.

This book was released on 2023-02-10 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Secret Sauce of Servant Leadership was borne out of the desire to help others quickly ignite and launch servant leadership characteristics and attributes into a leader's style and approach to influencing and leading people, not employees. This book applies to all industries and cultures across the globe. The book is structured by first defining a leadership concept, then learning about examples of modern-day leaders' and organizations who display and live out servant leadership characteristics in their approach, and then how this can be applied in other organizations. The author takes time in covering such topics as what is servant leadership, defining one's purpose, living out one's values, building a high-performance culture, creating trust, and sustaining long-lasting relationships, developing and sustaining a servant leader's character, and finally the most important of all, love, the love of people. The last two chapters provide a 360-servant leadership assessment example and how servant leadership can be integrated and applied in workplace leadership programs. The hope of the author is that the reader will quickly gain an understanding of servant leadership characteristics, achieve insights into the examples of both individual and organizations provided, and then immediately start incorporating these principles within their leadership approach, in turn, helping others to become servant leaders.

First, he shows how the Jesuit Spirituality at Loyola in Chicago and the Franciscan Spirituality at St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, helped him to appreciate mystical love. Secondly, he shows how agape with all nine of its characteristics is central to the Gospel of Mark. Then, especially with the help of the work of Dr. Raj Singh, he shows how bhakti developed throughout the history of India. Finally, Goicoechea shows how Georges Bataille, especially with the help of St. John of the Cross, looks deeply into the Inner Experience of the Mystical Ways.

Book Synopsis Secrecy and Disclosure in Victorian Fiction by : Leila Silvana May
Download or read book Secrecy and Disclosure in Victorian Fiction written by Leila Silvana May and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-07-15 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why were the Victorians more fascinated with secrecy than people of other periods? What is the function of secrets in Victorian fiction and in the society depicted, how does it differ from that of other periods, and how did readers of Victorian fiction respond to the secrecy they encountered? These are some of the questions Leila May poses in her study of the dynamics of secrecy and disclosure in fiction from Queen Victoria's coronation to the century's end. May argues that the works of writers such as Charlotte Brontë, William Makepeace Thackeray, Mary Elizabeth Braddon, Edward Bulwer-Lytton, and Arthur Conan Doyle reflect a distinctly Victorian obsession with the veiling and unveiling of information. She argues that there are two opposing vectors in Victorian culture concerning secrecy and subjectivity, one presupposing a form of radical Cartesian selfhood always remaining a secret to other selves and another showing that nothing can be hidden from the trained eye. (May calls the relation between these clashing tendencies the "dialectics" of secrecy and disclosure.) May's theories of secrecy and disclosure are informed by the work of twentieth-century social scientists. She emphasizes Georg Simmel's thesis that sociality and subjectivity are impossible without secrecy and Erving Goffman's claim that sociality can be understood in terms of performativity, "the presentation of the self in everyday life," and his revelation that performance always involves disguise, hence secrecy. May's study offers convincing evidence that secrecy and duplicity, in contrast to the Victorian period's emphasis on honesty and earnestness, emerged in response to the social pressures of class, gender, monarchy, and empire, and were key factors in producing both the subjectivity and the sociality that we now recognize as Victorian.
