Book excerpt: A Harvard professor, an evangelical preacher, a self-described Rabbi, a German dominatrix, and the proprietor of a Scottish donkey refuge walk into bar... The End Times dominate their discussion. Agreeing that Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are all true religions, and recognizing that each faith prophesies a Messiah riding on a donkey, they debate two scenarios: The three-donkey solutionone donkey per Savior with the three racing to see who can get to Jerusalem fi rst. Or the one-donkey solutionthe true Messiah being the one whose devotees can corral the immortal messianic donkey that has previously borne Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad. Eight years elapse. The donkey genome is decoded. American evangelicals and Irans messianic President Ahmadinejad deploy secret agents to lay hands on the sacred donkey as identifi ed by its DNA. The reader follows Toots, the feisty daughter of the refuge owner, and her boyfriend Fritz, a student of the dominatrix, as they seek to escape from these nefarious groups. Israeli intelligence and a sweet and devout CIA agent come to realize that the DNA search can be circumvented by getting hold of Fritz, who has actually encountered, and conversed with, the one true messianic donkey: Yafur. And then there is Yafurs evil brother Ufair.

There is no rhyme or reason to the "numbering", so don't think I missed anything, but even with mismatched numbers on chapters, realize they are in chronical order, as the experience came along. God has blessed me many times with a wonderful family and the ability to show people thru words, the wonderful life that can be had on a farm with animals and children. - Carole Lokan Moore, aka, The Farmer's Daughter

Book Synopsis From Peoples Into Nations by : John Connelly
Download or read book From Peoples Into Nations written by John Connelly and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2022-01-25 with total page 968 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book is a history of East Central Europe since the late eighteenth century, the region of Europe between German central Europe and Russia in the East. Connelly argues the region, for which it is frequently hard to define exact boundaries and which is sometimes treated country-by-country in a way seemingly separate from the broader trends of European history, was one of shared experience despite most of the peoples being divided by linguistic, geographic, and political barriers. Beginning in the 1780s, an unwitting Habsburg monarch -- Joseph II -- decreed that his subjects would use only German, as he hoped to mold a common nationality using German over the disparate subjects. Instead, he unleashed the energies and struggle for the emergence of new nations that pitted small peoples armed with an idea against empires. The author argues that the underlying national self-assertion which emerged under imperial rule in the eighteen and nineteenth centuries shows deep connections to subsequent histories, to the creation of nation states of the regions after World War I, the failure of democratic rule in these states during the interwar years, the submersion of the region under Nazi then Soviet rule after 1939, and to the reinvention of sovereign states (and then the break up of two of them) after 1989. The book interconnects major themes and country histories for first time, chronicling this diverse region over many generations, from the time of Joseph, through democratic and socialist revolutions, genocide and Stalinism, through civil society movements struggling for liberal democracy, into our own day, when illiberal politicians come to power by exploiting very old fears"--

Book excerpt: Kindly please read this and then send this message to your relatives, friends, and business associates in South Africa and overseas. "Wild West Adventures in the Great African Bush" by David Robert Dalton (with contributions by Mike, Trevor & Garth Dalton) Embark on Wild West Adventures in the Great African Bush with author David Robert Dalton, who takes you to the African bush in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Inspired by his and his brothers fond memories of growing up in the little copper mining town of Messina (now called Musina) in South Africa, with written contributions from his three elder brothers, he pens a wacky, side-splitting tale of his adventures growing up in the little bushveld town. Set in the African bushveld (a.k.a. the Great Arizona Desert), the three elder Dalton cowpokes are members of a gang dubbed the Messina Dalton Gang, after the infamous Wild West Dalton Gang, who roar around on their two-wheeler steeds and talk in tough Western jargon. The youngest Dalton cowpoke, six-year-old, David, calls himself Gunslinger and his main ambition in life is to become a recognized member of the gang. Together with his little African Pawnee sidekick-hombre, Tokoloshie-Two-Feathers, and his three-legged Jack Russell dog, Jock, Gunslinger tries hard to impress, but continually messes up. The story, told in a light-hearted tongue-in-cheek fashion, as told through the fertile imagination of a six-year-old boy, but is written for adults. Theres a delightful array of wacky small-town characters that help the story come alive, making you feel part of it. Theres the delicious Danish Tart, who runs the Mine Rec Club bar, Speedy, the towns beefy Harley-riding policeman, Paparazzo, the long-nosed Italian crime reporter, Frank&Earnest (the same person!), the hip Holy father, the disapproving Dominee, Mrs Bogey, the Mine Managers snooty wife, and the gangs all-suffering parents, the Old Man and Daisy-Anne, who all contribute to the hilarity! Dredging up ones own childhood memories, its a wonderful nostalgic tale to touch the hearts of all ages! Its so darned funny; itll have you laughing out loud! A charming and endearing must-read story for all ages! I simple loved it! Brenda George, author of Falling Leaves and Mountain Ashes. I warmed to this delightful and endearing book a unique African TO-KILL-A-MOCKINGBIRD look into the mind of a child of those nostalgic times. Book Synopsis Bird Flu Pandemic by : Michael Stones MD
Download or read book Bird Flu Pandemic written by Michael Stones MD and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006-11 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most probable and the greatest likely imminent threat to the United States and the rest of the world is a severe bird flu pandemic. There are an estimated four influenza (flu) pandemics each century. The last severe one was in 1918. This killed about five percent of the world's population. Five percent of today's U.S. population would be approximately fifteen million people (three hundred million of the world's pop.). Influenza mutates extremely rapidly even compared to other viruses. Influenza also can share genes with other strains of influenza. This makes it very possible or even probable that the deadly persistent bird flu (the H5N1 strain) currently sweeping the wild and domestic bird populations will eventually be able to be easily transmitted from human to human. Influenza has a history of being one of the most contagious of viral infections. The H5N1 strain of influenza is known to have infected 240 humans. Of these, 140 have died for a death rate of 58%. If it becomes easily contagious between humans, no one knows what the death rate will be. It could easily be very high. Modern medicine will not be capable of curing such an infection. This story is about a small group trying to survive in the social upheaval of a severe pandemic. I believe such chaos is possible. (Mike Stones MD)
