Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Divine Law; Mastership: A Fundamental Text Book for All Students Enrolled in the Secret Schools Moreover, when anyone claims to be an Initiate, it implies that he has been trained and taught in the Secret Schools, or August Fraternities, and this is indicative that an obligation has been assumed. If any of these pseudo-leaders had actually taken upon himself the vow of the soul and then repudiated it, then such are less to be trusted than the worst degenerate known to history. Book Synopsis What's Divine about Divine Law? by : Christine Hayes
Download or read book What's Divine about Divine Law? written by Christine Hayes and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2017-05-09 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How ancient thinkers grappled with competing conceptions of divine law In the thousand years before the rise of Islam, two radically diverse conceptions of what it means to say that a law is divine confronted one another with a force that reverberates to the present. What's Divine about Divine Law? untangles the classical and biblical roots of the Western idea of divine law and shows how early adherents to biblical tradition—Hellenistic Jewish writers such as Philo, the community at Qumran, Paul, and the talmudic rabbis—struggled to make sense of this conflicting legacy. Christine Hayes shows that for the ancient Greeks, divine law was divine by virtue of its inherent qualities of intrinsic rationality, truth, universality, and immutability, while for the biblical authors, divine law was divine because it was grounded in revelation with no presumption of rationality, conformity to truth, universality, or immutability. Hayes describes the collision of these opposing conceptions in the Hellenistic period, and details competing attempts to resolve the resulting cognitive dissonance. She shows how Second Temple and Hellenistic Jewish writers, from the author of 1 Enoch to Philo of Alexandria, were engaged in a common project of bridging the gulf between classical and biblical notions of divine law, while Paul, in his letters to the early Christian church, sought to widen it. Hayes then delves into the literature of classical rabbinic Judaism to reveal how the talmudic rabbis took a third and scandalous path, insisting on a construction of divine law intentionally at odds with the Greco-Roman and Pauline conceptions that would come to dominate the Christianized West. A stunning achievement in intellectual history, What's Divine about Divine Law? sheds critical light on an ancient debate that would shape foundational Western thought, and that continues to inform contemporary views about the nature and purpose of law and the nature and authority of Scripture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Just as heat is inherent in fire, so is our desire to become better.' Why are personal growth and life transformation so difficult? Does Creation wish that we fail? Of course not! The purpose behind the Universe's grand design is to make us succeed. Our own unawareness of the laws of the Universe creates the impediment. Just as physical phenomena are regulated by laws, there are spiritual principles governing the journey of life as well. Knowledge of them helps us understand why success comes so easily to some but remains a struggle for others; why some are still putting on their shoes, while others have finished the race. The beauty is that, like the physical laws of nature, the divine principles governing happiness and fulfilment in life are also eternally valid. In this book, Swami Mukundananda explains the 7 divine laws in an easily graspable manner. With knowledge of the Vedic scriptures and witty anecdotes that everyone can relate to, this book will empower you to become the best version of yourself.
Book Synopsis The Divine Laws by : Claudia Nita Donca
Download or read book The Divine Laws written by Claudia Nita Donca and published by Claudia Donca. This book was released on 2014-06-19 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everything in life, both on this Planet and in the entire Universe, follows The Divine Laws, whether we agree or disagree, whether we are aware or unaware. We can live without being aware of them and this fact is not considered a serious mistake. But then we have to accept that things surrounding us happen in a chaotic manner and that we do not understand why sometimes we get “luck” and other times when we most need it we only get “bad-luck”; we must also accept the fact that projects in which we’ve invested years of our lives may never get to see the light, that we won’t be able to make choices like what we eat or what we wear, or who we spend the rest of our life with. In other words, that our life flows in an unpredictable way, whereas in a normal situation we are programmed by nature to be happy, healthy, harmonious and to have a wealthy living!
