Book Synopsis A Comparative Analysis of Corporate Fraud by : Sally Ramage
Download or read book A Comparative Analysis of Corporate Fraud written by Sally Ramage and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Comparative Analysis of Corporate Fraud: Book Four examines corporate fraud in the United Kingdom compared with that of two civil law neighbouring countries, France and Germany, as well as the United States. The objective of the study is to discover how fraud occurs, how the two different legal systems treat fraud, contributing factors, and if recommendations were made to authorities in an attempt to combat this illegal activity. The UK can learn much from the French legal system and the way France prosecutes corporations. Germany's Criminal Code is equally comprehensive in its prescriptive definitions of fraud, especially corporate fraud. Although the UK is striving for a general law against fraud, the UK Fraud Offence Bill is very inadequate, lacking detailed solutions. The UK has become entrenched in upholding legal privilege, bowing to intense lobbying by the legal profession. And the use of electronic evidence, vital in prosecuting modern corporate fraud, remains overlooked. The attitude toward corporate fraud in the UK remains laissez-faire. By analysing corporate fraud in the US, France, and Germany, author Sally Ramage highlights examples that the UK can take from these countries that combat corporate fraud without derogation of established international human rights.

Book Synopsis The End of Negotiable Instruments by : James Steven Rogers
Download or read book The End of Negotiable Instruments written by James Steven Rogers and published by . This book was released on 2012-01-12 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The End of Negotiable Instruments: Bringing Payments Systems Law Out of the Past, author James Rogers challenges the basic assumptions of the law of checks and notes and its history, and provides a well-reasoned account of how the law could be changed to better suit the evolution of new payment technologies. The modern American law of payment systems is in disarray. Efforts to create a unified body of law for payment systems have so far been unsuccessful. Part of the reason for that failure is the assumption that the existing law works well for the traditional paper-based check system, and that problems have been created only by the evolution of new technologies. The End of Negotiable Instruments argues that this assumption is unfounded. The basic law of checks is itself anachronistic. There are no other books that undertake a similar analysis—there are legal treatises on the law of checks and notes, but all of them take for granted the basic assumptions challenged in this book. Several articles were published in the late twentieth century concerning the dispute over the application of certain doctrines of traditional negotiable instruments law to modern consumer finance transactions, but none of this literature went on to consider the broader question of whether there is anything worthwhile left in negotiable instruments law.

Book Synopsis Software Systems Safety by : O. Grumberg
Download or read book Software Systems Safety written by O. Grumberg and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2014-05-30 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until quite recently, the correctness and security of software systems was a largely theoretical problem relevant only for a small group of computer specialists. Today it is a fundamental problem for society at large, with security breaches in banking software, malware attacks and bugs in programs affecting millions of people and making the headlines almost daily. The computer science community is developing verification and synthesis tools which will mechanize ever more tasks in the design of secure programs. This book presents the papers delivered at the NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) Summer School Marktoberdorf 2013 – Software Systems Safety. The participants represented research groups from both industry and academia, and the subjects covered included: software model checking via systematic testing, program synthesis, E voting systems, probabilistic model checking in biology, infinite state model checking, Boolean satisfiability, interactive proof, and software security by information flow control. The Marktoberdorf Summer School is one of the most renowned international computer science summer schools, and this book, with its detailed overview of current research results with special emphasis on the solving of software systems security problems, will be of interest to all those whose work involves systems security.
