This book was released on 2016-09-27 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Project Report from the year 2016 in the subject Engineering - Civil Engineering, grade: AA, Priyadarshini College of Engineering, Nagpur, course: B.E AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING, language: English, abstract: This text depicts how a low speed water tunnel was designed and fabricated, as well as tested and analysed. The low speed recirculating type water tunnel was successfully designed and fabricated. The designing was done by taking into consideration of the Reynolds no. flow velocity, boundary layer formation, cavitation number and Froude's number. Theoretical and computational studies were made to decide the shape and the size of the various components of the low speed water tunnel. Uniformity in the setup of main objective and was successfully achieved. The setup consists of an inlet plenum with baffle to reduce turbulence or splashing, honeycomb structure, converging section, test section and wide angle diffuser and outlet module suitable low power single phase motor was selected for continuous flow of water in the setup. The water was recirculated using this motor and appropriate plumbing system. All the components were designed, analyzed, constructed and installed successfully .General purpose polymer was used as a ground material for the fabrication purpose. Necessary up gradations were made during various stages of the project. Flow visualization over the test bodies was successfully visualized using a dye injection system.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Tunnel Construction by : David Chapman
Download or read book Introduction to Tunnel Construction written by David Chapman and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-27 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tunnelling provides a robust solution to a variety of engineering challenges. It is a complex process, which requires a firm understanding of the ground conditions as well as the importance of ground-structure interaction. This book covers the full range of areas related to tunnel construction required to embark upon a career in tunnelling. It also includes a number of case studies related to real tunnel projects, to demonstrate how the theory applies in practice. New features of this second edition include: the introduction of a case study related to Crossrail’s project in London, focussing on the Whitechapel and Liverpool Street station tunnels and including considerations of building tunnels in a congested urban area; and further information on recent developments in tunnel boring machines, including further examples of all the different types of machine as well as multi-mode machines. The coverage includes: Both hard-rock and soft-ground conditions Site investigation, parameter selection, and design considerations Methods of improving the stability of the ground and lining techniques Descriptions of the various main tunnelling techniques Health and safety considerations Monitoring of tunnels during construction Description of the latest tunnel boring machines Case studies with real examples, including Crossrail’s project in London Clear, concise, and heavily illustrated, this is a vital text for final-year undergraduate and MSc students and an invaluable starting point for young professionals and novices in tunnelling.

Book Synopsis The Global Water Crisis by : David E. Newton
Download or read book The Global Water Crisis written by David E. Newton and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2016-04-25 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How is water scarcity becoming a serious problem worldwide—including in the United States? This book provides a broad overview of water, sanitation, and hygiene problems faced by both developing and developed nations around the globe and suggests how these problems can be solved by imaginative and innovative thinking. Human society depends on sufficient clean water. In many parts of the world, however, this most basic commodity is in very short supply. Even in developed, first-world nations, climate change and other factors have begun to create alarming water supply issues. The Global Water Crisis: A Reference Handbook provides a detailed overview of this important topic, enabling readers to understand the nature of the world's water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) problems and to know what resources are best for conducting their own research on the topic. The first chapter of the book provides the historical background information pertaining to the world's water and sanitation problems; the second chapter documents the problems, explores the issues, and presents potential solutions for understanding the nature of WASH issues. The other sections provide the needed resources for readers to study the issue of the global water crisis further: perspective essays, primary documents, biographical profiles, data and documents, an extended annotated bibliography, a chronology, and a glossary.
Book Synopsis Concrete for Underground Structures by : Robert J. F. Goodfellow
Download or read book Concrete for Underground Structures written by Robert J. F. Goodfellow and published by SME. This book was released on 2011 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete is a vital component of almost every underground construction project. Because it significantly impacts both the durability and cost of a project, owners, designers, and contractors are constantly challenged with designing and placing the concrete to meet their quality standards in the most cost-effective way. Concrete for Underground Structures: Guidelines for Design and Construction can make that task a lot easier. Instead of searching pages of scattered reference materials when writing specifications, this book is a one-source guide to help you quickly find the answers you need. The first resource of its kind, this practical nuts-and-bolts handbook provides an industry voice as well as recommendations for areas of concrete application. You'll get valuable insights into current best practices for all aspects of the design and construction of underground structural concrete. Internationally respected authors examine three key applications: cast-in-place concrete, precast concrete segmental linings, and shotcrete. Each chapter addresses the differences between aboveground and underground use. The various types of concrete admixtures are also discussed, and sample specifications for each are included. Concrete for Underground Structures is an indispensable resource for industry veterans as well as an educational tool for those who are new to the profession.
