Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, a study of the principal appellate court in the English civil law hierarchy, the High Court of Delegates, examines the history, jurisdiction, procedure, personnel and records of the court from the mid-sixteenth century until its abolition in 1832. In an introductory historical survey, the author considers the earlier provisions for civil law appeal, the circumstances surrounding the creation of the Court of Delegates, and its history from the mid-sixteenth century until 1832. After a general discussion of the jurisdiction of the court, Dr Duncan goes on to a detailed discussion of several jurisdictional problems: in particular he deals with the relationship between the Court of Delegates and certain other Judicial bodies, and with the extent of the Court's original jurisdiction. He devotes two chapters to commissions of delegacy and commissions of review, analysing the rules which governed the right of a party to appeal to the Court of Delegates, and also to appeal from a decision of that Court. The central portion of the book is devoted to procedure: the various stages through which an appeal passed are set out in detail, and particular attention is paid to the taking of evidence.
Book Synopsis SIDS Sudden Infant and Early Childhood Death by : Roger W. Byard
Download or read book SIDS Sudden Infant and Early Childhood Death written by Roger W. Byard and published by . This book was released on 2018-04 with total page 844 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume covers aspects of sudden infant and early childhood death, ranging from issues with parental grief, to the most recent theories of brainstem neurotransmitters. It also deals with the changes that have occurred over time with the definitions of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome), SUDI (sudden unexpected death in infancy) and SUDIC (sudden unexpected death in childhood). The text will be indispensable for SIDS researchers, SIDS organisations, paediatric pathologists, forensic pathologists, paediatricians and families, in addition to residents in training programs that involve paediatrics. It will also be of use to other physicians, lawyers and law enforcement officials who deal with these cases, and should be a useful addition to all medical examiner/forensic, paediatric and pathology departments, hospital and university libraries on a global scale. Given the marked changes that have occurred in the epidemiology and understanding of SIDS and sudden death in the very young over the past decade, a text such as this is very timely and is also urgently needed.

Download or read book Cold a Long Time written by John Leake and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In August of 1989, Duncan MacPherson-a pro hockey player from Saskatoon, Canada-vanished without a trace in Europe. With no help from the police, his parents, Lynda and Bob, drove all over the Alps looking for him, and finally found his car at the Stubai Glacier, a popular ski resort near Innsbruck, Austria. Thus began their twenty-year struggle to discover why their son had disappeared after snowboarding on a beginner slope. Had he, as the local police suggested, wandered off the beaten track and died in a remote area, or had he (as certain signs indicated) been the victim of something sinister? In the course of their search, the MacPhersons encountered an extraordinary cast of characters, including a 5,000-year-old ice mummy, an amnesiac initially thought to be Duncan, a renowned psychic with a startling vision, a charismatic ski resort developer, and a deceptively friendly forensic doctor. In 2009 they asked author John Leake to help them with their ongoing search for answers, and after a two-year investigation, he discovered the shocking reality of what happened to Duncan. Cold a Long Time: An Alpine Mystery recounts the strange and agonizing odyssey of the MacPherson family. It is a story about tremendous love, perseverance, and the irrepressible desire to know the truth, literally at all costs. It is also the story of a twisted cover-up, committed by the ski resort, the local police, and high-ranking officials in Innsbruck. Leake's findings are the subject of the television documentary "A Cold Case," produced by the fifth estate-Canada's premier investigative news program. "Leake skillfully and exhaustively takes a complex story and makes it eminently readable." -The Regina Leader-Post "Besides research and writing skills, John Leake brought some crucial assets to the project--fluency in German and a knowledge of its region, its politics, and economics. -Linden MacIntyre, host of "the fifth estate" "You can't get Todd Mclellan to do anything but watch hockey video, with the exception of reading this book." -Drew Remenda, host of Sports Night Live "What a compelling read! I love this book." -John Gormley, host of John Gormley Live.
Book Synopsis Death of an Overseer by : Michael Wayne
Download or read book Death of an Overseer written by Michael Wayne and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2001-03-08 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In May of 1857, the body of Duncan Skinner was found in a strip of woods along the edge of the plantation near Natchez, Mississippi, where he worked as an overseer. Although a coroner's jury initially ruled his death to be accidental, an investigation organized by planters from the community concluded that he had been murdered by three slaves acting under instructions from John McCallin, an Irish carpenter. Now, almost a century and a half later, Michael Wayne has reopened the case to ask whether the men involved in the investigation arrived at the right verdict. Part essay on the art of historical detection, part seminar on the history of slavery and the Old South, Death of an Overseer is, above all, a murder mystery--a murder mystery that allows readers to sift through the surviving evidence themselves and come to their own conclusions about who killed Duncan Skinner and why.

Book Synopsis Agent-Based Strategizing by : Duncan A. Robertson
Download or read book Agent-Based Strategizing written by Duncan A. Robertson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2019-10-17 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strategic management is a system of continual disequilibrium, with firms in a continual struggle for competitive advantage and relative fitness. Models that are dynamic in nature are required if we are to really understand the complex notion of sustainable competitive advantage. New tools are required to tackle challenges of how firms should compete in environments characterized by both exogeneous shocks and intense endogenous competition. Agent-based modelling of firms' strategies offers an alternative analytical approach, where individual firm or component parts of a firm are modelled, each with their own strategy. Where traditional models can assume homogeneity of actors, agent-based models simulate each firm individually. This allows experimentation of strategic moves, which is particularly important where reactions to strategic moves are non-trivial. This Element introduces agent-based models and their use within management, reviews the influential NK suite of models, and offers an agenda for the development of agent-based models in strategic management.
