Charity Raber is one of many single women who came to Birch Creek, Ohio, with one goal in mind: secure a husband from among the desperate bachelors a newspaper advertisement claimed inhabited the town. Even though that claim proved to be nothing more than a cruel prank, Charity is still hopeful that her happy ending might be within reach when she’s set up on a date with Jesse Bontrager. That is until Jesse not-so-gently shares that he has no interest in a relationship with anyone—and especially not with her. One year later, Charity is working as a caretaker for a kind, elderly English woman in the nearby town of Marigold. She’s also working hard on a brand-new courtship plan. A plan that absolutely does not involve Jesse Bontrager. But when he moves next door and is made aware of her scheming, Charity vows to prove that her plan is foolproof. Meanwhile, Jesse is sure she’ll make a fool of herself. And for some reason he’s not willing to let that happen. This stubborn bachelor and determined bachelorette will soon learn that their plans rarely work out as expected—but God’s plans always will. Book excerpt: Your attitudes about marriage and the path to marriage are wrong. Some you’ve inherited, some you’ve simply bought—hook, line, and sinker—and some you’ve made up yourself. They have translated into bad action (or no action) in dating and relationships. But it’s not too late; you can break the cycle of dating dysfunction and learn to honor marriage, marry well, and live intentionally while you wait. Lisa Anderson proves it’s possible. The Dating Manifesto is neither a cheesy formula for finding a spouse nor a feel-good book about how the person for you is “out there” if you only “believe.”Instead, it’s a challenge to wise up, own your junk, and chart a bold new course for your relationship future.

Book excerpt: A relationship coach offers a step-by-step program for marrying your soul mate in one year or less. Whether you're divorced or have never been married, if you're searching for long-lasting love, you're not alone: millions of people are on the lookout for their soul mate, and most of them are having trouble finding and keeping him or her. With The Marriage Plan, Dr. Aggie Jordan offers readers a tried-and-true program for finding and attracting the right man and building a healthy marriage, without sacrificing mutual respect, integrity, or your true self. Aggie Jordan's no-nonsense approach to marriage will get you off the dating roller coaster and have you happily married in an open, committed, mutually satisfying relationship in under one year. Unlike some books that promote game playing and hard-to-get tactics, The Marriage Plan emphasizes honesty, commitment, and openness from the very beginning. Based on Jordan's principles of openness and self-awareness, The Marriage Plan's thirteen steps--such as setting a goal, drawing a profile of your ideal mate, and being open and direct--will help you get specific about what you want. Her easy-to-follow exercises and worksheets will help you clarify your dreams and needs. Beginning with tips for getting the word out, Jordan explains how to avoid wasting time on partners who aren't right for you and tackles issues including kids, chores, money, and sex, as well as communication and intimacy. Her sensible approach and clear direction will guide you every step of the way. It worked for her: Drawing on her years of work as a goal management trainer, she wrote the thirteen steps as a guide for herself when she was looking for love, and she met and married her soul mate in under one year. It worked for the six couples whose stories are included here, and it will work for you. If you're fed up with playing games that get you nowhere, The Marriage Plan is for you. For guidance from the first date to the wedding date, The Marriage Plan is the perfect match for anyone who's looking for lasting love.

The book was conceived after conversations with clients whose marital problems seemed to stem from common problem areas. Many of the clients said that if they'd only talked through these areas before they got married they might have realised where the potential pitfalls lay. The aim of the book is to prevent engaged couples from becoming another divorce statistic by helping them to learn more about themselves, each other and their relationship, and to actually plan their marriage journey together so they can overcome any potential obstacle that might come their way. This book has two card decks, one physical, the other in an app, Deckible, which give you a pocket size version of the questions. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you Seriously Dating or Engaged? Kenady sat behind Damien at their church for several years, not knowing he would one day ask for her hand in marriage. Through personal stories full of honesty, vulnerability, and humor, this couple shares their journey and testimony with others who are thinking about having a godly marriage. Instead of doing things the way the world expects, Damien and Kenady had a heart to do things God’s way, including a covenant not to have sex before marriage. In #CompletelyMarried, you’ll discover: ● How to establish the right boundaries for your relationship ● The crucial importance of vision ● The key requirements in finding the right accountability for your relationship ● How to prepare yourself as husband or wife before “I Do” ● Experience-based tips on practical tasks like shopping for an engagement ring and planning your wedding The reality is that there are plenty of bad examples of marriage out there, whether in the media or in our own families. Damien and Kenady provide a biblically sound blueprint for laying the foundation of your marriage as God intended. If you are tired of seeing or experiencing one failed, purposeless relationship after another, and yearn to understand a better approach, #CompletelyMarried is the book you’ve been waiting for! "From his previous work, #CompletelySingle, to this book in partnership with Kenady, #CompletelyMarried, we get the opportunity to see multiple sides of the spectrum: single (the struggle and the strides), engaged (the hunt and the hard work), and married (the beginning and beyond)... With over twenty-three years of experience in our own marriage, we can affirm that many principles they have shared are the same principles that have kept our marriage flourishing." — Darius and Melba Dunson, Associate Pastors of Victory Church

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The period from her first London assembly to her wedding day was the narrow span of autonomy for a middle-class Englishwoman in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. For many women, as Katherine Sobba Green shows, the new ideal of companionate marriage involved such thoroughgoing revisions in self-perception that a new literary form was needed to represent their altered roles. That the choice among suitors ideally depended on love and should not be decided on any other grounds was a principal theme among a group of heroine-centered novels published between 1740 and 1820. During these decades, some two dozen writers, most of them women, published such courtship novels. Specifically aiming them at young women readers, these novelists took as their common purpose the disruption of established ideas about how dutiful daughters and prudent young women should comport themselves during courtship. Reading a wide range of primary texts, Green argues that the courtship novel was a feminized genre—written about, by, and for women. She challenges contemporary readers to appreciate the subtleties of early feminism in novels by Eliza Haywood, Mary Collyer, Charlotte Lennox, Samuel Richardson, Frances Brooke, Fanny Burney, Mary Wollstonecraft, Jane West, Mary Brunton, Maria Edgeworth, and Jane Austen—to recognize that these courtship novelists held in common a desire to reimagine the subject positions through which women understood themselves.

Even though Damien has warned her repeatedly he is no gentleman, Madeline is sure deep down underneath his rakish demeanor he is a hero. Why else would he secret her out of a ball to safety? Damien’s plan includes seduction but not marriage. What he doesn’t expect is being seduced himself by Madeline’s smiles and laughter and passion. But she is meant for Damien’s half brother, and enacting his revenge means ruining the match… and breaking her heart.

Book excerpt: “The gripping story of the wolves the British sent to govern the Irish . . . Miracles abound in this action-packed history.” —Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Former Lieutenant Governor of Maryland “The Irish people have suffered mercilessly at the hands of conquerors over the past thousand or so years . . . The Normans tried with only limited success to conquer the Irish in 1167, a hundred years after their takeover of England . . . Irish resistance to British rule provoked a lengthy war between the clans of the Irish chieftains and the English soldiers . . . They confiscated the lands once more and instituted such harsh and outrageous controls that it ultimately resulted in the great Irish emigration to the United States. Jack Bray tells this thrilling story from an immense wealth of knowledge and such a writer’s eye for detail that no one even remotely interested in the period will want to miss it.” —from the Foreword by Winston Groom, New York Times–bestselling author of Forrest Gump “The Irish are a storytelling people and Jack Bray is one of them. And what a story he has written: the centuries of tragedy ending in the building of a great country across the sea, America. Deeply researched and deeply felt, The Tudor Wolfpack and the Roots of Irish America has a brave and musical heart.” —Richard Reeves, national bestselling author of President Kennedy: Profile of Power “Combining the soul of Ireland’s ancient storytelling seanchaí with the great talent and skill of an American lawyer-historian, Jack Bray tells a powerful story about the military conquest and colonization of Ireland in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.” —Edward J. Markey, United States Senator, Massachusetts

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thesis of this book is that God intends that sexual intercourse should be at least implicitly a renewal of the marriage covenant. From this it follows that the marriage covenant provides the criterion to evaluate the morality of every sexual act. Thus the title, Sex and the Marriage Covenant, is an appropriate description of the bookಙs contents. Marriage comes into being by a couple unreservedly entering God's covenant of marriage; contraceptive intercourse contradicts the very essence of the marriage covenant. From these considerations, Kippley developed the covenant theology of sexuality described in this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The life and works of William Faulkner have generated numerous biographical studies exploring how Faulkner understood southern history, race, his relationship to art, and his place in the canons of American and world literature. However, some details on Faulkner’s life collected by his early biographers never made it into published form or, when they did, appeared in marginalized stories and cryptic references. The biographical record of William Faulkner’s life has yet to come to terms with the life-long friendships he maintained with gay men, the extent to which he immersed himself into gay communities in Greenwich Village and New Orleans, and how profoundly this part of his life influenced his “apocryphal” creation of Yoknapatawpha County. Gay Faulkner: Uncovering a Homosexual Presence in Yoknapatawpha and Beyond explores the intimate friendships Faulkner maintained with gay men, among them Ben Wasson, William Spratling, and Hubert Creekmore, and places his fiction into established canons of LGBTQ literature, including World War I literature and representations of homosexuality from the Cold War. The book offers a full consideration of his relationship to gay history and identity in the twentieth century, giving rise to a new understanding of this most important of American authors.
