The Chinchilla originates from the Andes Mountain Range in South America and the name derives from the South American Chincha tribe. The Chinchilla was first introduced to the western world in the 1500s. Chinchillas are very popular due to the thickness of their fur which is actually the thickest of any land mammal. Chinchillas that are handled by humans from a young age will be fairly tame and should usually form a close relationship with their own. There are cases though were the Chinchilla will not enjoy being held. Chinchillas are a nocturnal creature meaning that they are active at night and sleep during the day. Your chinchillas should be kept somewhere quiet during the day so that they are able to rest. Because the Chinchilla is an energetic and active pet it requires plenty of room to run around in.

They are dynamic and fun loving and, with delicate taking care of since early on, most chinchillas become very tame and can bond intimately with their proprietors. In any case, don't anticipate that them should like being held and snuggled like mutts and felines. About the Authors Chinchilla Facts Many animal babies are born with all their fur, or complete with feathers, but the chinchilla kit is one of the few animals that is born with its eyes wide open. Even puppies are born with their eyes closed! Chinchillas cannot get their fur wet, so instead of bathing in water, chinchillas use volcanic ash to clean their fur. This ash is found in the mountains where chinchillas live in the wild. When chinchillas are kept as pets, the chinchillas owner must purchase ash for the chinchilla to bathe in several times a week. Chinchillas have very special little hands that can grab and hold items in much the same way that a human grabs and holds items. Chinchillas are highly unique because they are one of the few species in the wild that are monogamous. This means that they choose a partner, and keep that same partner for life. While all chinchillas are small in size, especially compared to more common mammals like dogs and cats, the chinchilla’s body size is interesting because unlike most other mammal groups, the chinchilla females are usually a bit larger than the males. This is seen more often in spiders, and even birds, but very rarely in mammals. Most wild chinchillas are grey or brown in color, while domestic (pet) chinchillas are the more colorful, with white, beige, and violet being common. Wild chinchillas in the Andes mountains rarely actually drink water because they eat a lot of fruits and succulent plants. Succulent plants are plants in the cactus family that hold a lot of water in them. The water inside the fruits and plants that the chinchilla eats gives them most of the water they need to live.

Since they can live up to 20 years they can be long time companions. They are not recommended for young children. Children are often overzealous with affection and could frighten or injure a chinchilla. A chinchilla could possibly bite a child out of fear. Although loving animals, they do require gentle and careful handling. These adorable creatures are social animals and need a lot of interaction. A lone chinchilla requires a great deal of attention and can become very attached to its owner. If you are unable to devote that much time to your pet, it is better to have two chinchillas than one lonely unhappy pet. Two chinchillas can play and interact and not be completely dependent on their owner. get this book and know more about pet chinchilla
