Book excerpt: Reveals the parallels between the rise and fall of Atlantis, cultures in ancient Mesoamerica, and our modern civilization • Links the demise of Atlantis with the birth of the Olmec civilization in Mexico, the beginning of the first Egyptian dynasty, and the start of the Mayan Calendar • Reveals the Atlantean and Mayan prophecy of an eternal cycle of global creation, destruction, and renewal and how we are headed into a destructive phase • Shows how ancient prophecies correlate precisely with the latest climatology studies, the rising incidence of solar flares, and papers from Pentagon and NASA analysts With the passing of the Mayan Calendar’s end date we can now focus on the true significance of what the Maya and their predecessors were trying to convey to future civilizations. Frank Joseph reveals how the Mayan prophecy, symbolized by their calendar, was created through the combined genius of Atlantis and Lemuria and predicts an eternal cycle of global creation, destruction, and renewal. He shows how this cycle correlates precisely with scientific studies on glacial ice cores and predictions from the Hopi, the Incas, and the Scandinavian Norse as well as the visions of Edgar Cayce. He links the demise of Atlantis with the birth of the Olmec civilization in Mexico (the progenitors of the Maya), the beginning of the first Egyptian dynasty, and the start of the Mayan Calendar. Drawing on the latest climatology studies and papers from Pentagon and NASA analysts, he reveals that we are on the brink of a destructive phase in the global cycle of change as predicted by the Atlanteans and the Maya. The world’s current political, economic, and cultural deterioration is paralleled by unprecedented storms and record temperatures, massive solar flares, tectonic disturbances, and fissuring sea floors that could release dangerous reservoirs of methane gas into the environment--all of which signals we are headed into another ice age. Despite the Atlanteans’ greater understanding of the cyclical nature of catastrophes and of the human role in them, Joseph reveals the mistakes they made that played a crucial role in their civilization’s destruction. By recognizing the self-destructive patterns of Atlantis in our own civilization, we can learn from their mistakes to reestablish civilization’s cosmic balance before time runs out.

Science has been proven right by the events of the last eighteen years. Climate is changing: global warming does not exist, but a New Little Ice Age has already started. The Author, one of B.C.'s leading trial lawyers, now retired, has assembled all the evidence to convince even the most devout global warming believer including: - The opinions of dozens of scientists who predict a return to Little Ice Age conditions. - An explanation of the connection between low sunspots and cold weather. - Analysis of the solar cycles that bring climate change and ice ages to Earth. - Discussion of the conditions during the last Little Ice Age (1300-1850). - Comparison of today's weather events with past ice ages. - A complete debunking of the "Global Warming" theory. He discusses the totally corrupt practices of the U.N. IPCC, the organization that delivered the global warming and ocean acidification scares to the world, and warns of the certainty of mass starvation, disease and social unrest, particularly among the poor in Canada and the U.S. and in the Third World. There is hope for North Americans. Warm Zones exist and based on his own experiences as a 'Back to the Land" advocate in the 1970s, he suggests ways to survive and prosper during the next 50 difficult years. Part of the proceeds of the sale of this book will go to the homeless and hungry in Canada and the United States.

Book excerpt: We stopped at a roadside diner. People asked if I was his daughter. They ask all the time. Hoping, accusing. We never say yes, and we never say no. We ate our food at a booth in a hungry, self-conscious rush, straight out of the wrappers. They didn't have plates. We left a tip, just change. The waitress scooped it up straight away as we slid out of the booth. She was middle-aged and bulgy, in a proper matronly waitress's dress. She shot us what I suppose was intended to be a look of gratitude. She really only managed a weak glare. I guess that's the countryside for you. People are a little edgy.' Across the heartless expanse of middle America, a teenaged girl is riding shotgun with an older man. She watches him; she sees her fascination tallied in the black looks of waitresses, the knowing smiles of motel clerks. The man can see no proper way of conducting this relationship but is bound to her by concern and tenderness; perhaps desire. The girl craves only closeness. She knows the Ice Age is coming, and we will need to huddle together for warmth. Kirsten Reed's debut novel, with its echoes of Nabokov, Kerouac and Bret Easton Ellis, captures the translucent moment at the end of childhood in all its awkwardness, sincerity and heedless vulnerability. In prose both lyrical and earthy, comic and darkly harrowing, this extraordinary young writer creates a journey of irresistible momentum and tragic possibility. It will leave you with the sense that you have met someone significant; and you will not soon forget her.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dagomar Degroot offers the first detailed analysis of how a society thrived amid the Little Ice Age, a period of climatic cooling that reached its chilliest point between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. The precocious economy, unusual environment, and dynamic intellectual culture of the Dutch Republic in its seventeenth-century Golden Age allowed it to thrive as neighboring societies unraveled in the face of extremes in temperature and precipitation. By tracing the occasionally counterintuitive manifestations of climate change from global to local scales, Degroot finds that the Little Ice Age presented not only challenges for Dutch citizens but also opportunities that they aggressively exploited in conducting commerce, waging war, and creating culture. The overall success of their Republic in coping with climate change offers lessons that we would be wise to heed today, as we confront the growing crisis of global warming.

Book excerpt: Europe and the USA will soon be covered by thick ice, according to the scientific report section of Dark Visitor. The primary author is a Harvard educated astronomer and one of the other two has a Ph.D. in climatology and worked for NOAA, so this report must be taken seriously. Recent astronomical observations indicate that a black hole is approaching our solar system. Although the black hole will pass more distant than the orbit of Saturn, its gravity will slightly change the Earth's orbit. The year will become 378 days long. During winter it will be 6% closer to the sun and during summer, 11% farther away. The resulting milder winter and cooler summers are a curse, not a blessing. Heavy "spring snows" will fall all winter long and not entirely melt in the colder following summer. Mathematical proofs of these facts are included in the scientific report section and appendix. The approaching black hole will never be visible in telescopes, but its trajectory is now known from observations of small perturbations in Pluto's orbit. If the authors' predictions are true, the global catastrophe that will begin in 2007 will be far worse than any that has ever occurred before.

This book tells the story of those periods--what they were like, why they occurred, and when the next ice age is due.

Book excerpt: Indeed I recall meeting with Sir David King, former Chief Scientific Adviser to the British Government, at a climate change event in Oxford. He was at the inauguration of Oxford`s new college, the Martin 21st Century School. We had a little joke together about the possibility of another ice age and he said it would not be much fun for the football supporters of Old Trafford if an ice age came, since Manchester city was buried under a mile of ice during the last ice age!
