Download or read book The Co-operative Movement in Indonesia written by Mohammad Hatta and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2019-06-30 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an introductory chapter and six speeches the former Vice-President of Indonesia stresses the importance of the formation of co-operatives. The speeches are directed to Indonesians, and in them the author expresses his view that co-operatives are the only way to build the national economy. The tables in the book give evidence as to how much the co-operative movement has grown, despite the tremendous handicaps of lack of capital, lack of experience, lack of leadership, and the general poverty of the people! Hatta envisions a classless society in which every man is both worker and manager in his co-operative, and he sees capitalistic enterprises as only temporary necessities in Indonesia-to do those jobs too big for the small co-operatives but not large enough to be government projects. This work should prove to be thought-provoking for economists and all who are interested in Indonesia's future.

Book Synopsis The Cooperative Movement by : Richard C. Williams
Download or read book The Cooperative Movement written by Richard C. Williams and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-23 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Richard Williams surveys the history of the cooperative movement from its origins in the 18th century and deals with the theory of cooperation, as contrasted with the 'Standard Economic Model', based on competition. The book contains the results of field studies of a number of successful cooperatives both in the developed and developing world. It includes insights from personal interviews of cooperative members and concludes by considering the successes and challenges of the cooperative movement as an alternative to the global neo-colonialism and imperialism that now characterizes free-market capitalist approaches to globalization. The book considers democratic and local control of essential economic activities such as the production, distribution, and retailing of goods and services. It suggests that cooperative approaches to these economic activities are already reducing poverty and resulting in equitable distributions of wealth and income without plundering the resources of developing countries.
Book Synopsis African Perspectives on Reshaping Rural Development by : Mafukata, Mavhungu Abel
Download or read book African Perspectives on Reshaping Rural Development written by Mafukata, Mavhungu Abel and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2019-11-22 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Development studies in developing regions such as Southern Africa rely heavily on materials developed by Europeans with a European context. European dominance in development studies emanates from the fact that the discipline was first developed by Europeans. Some argue that this has led to distortions in theory and practice of development in Southern Africa. This book wishes to begin Africa’s expedition to develop proper material to de-Westernize while Africanizing the context of the scholarship of rural development. African Perspectives on Reshaping Rural Development is an essential reference source that repositions the context of rural development studies from the Western-centric knowledge system into an African context in order to solve African-centered problems. Featuring research on topics such as food security, poverty reduction, and community engagement, this book is ideally designed for planners, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, government officials, academicians, and students seeking clarity on theory and practice of development in Africa.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on how religion—particularly Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and, to a lesser extent, Hinduism—is shaping the ethos and daily actions of market participants within the global money markets. The concepts inherent within Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and Hinduism are making themselves felt within the global money markets. As Islamic finance led to the introduction of sharia compliant derivatives, for example, Christian investment funds are leading ethical initiatives on Wall Street, the City of London, and elsewhere such as divesting from fossil fuels in response to the climate change emergency. Jewish faith led funds are making significant strides with the further development of impact investments. The concept of Hindu economics is also beginning to shape the actions of some market participants which are tied to the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
