Well, he might hunt two weeks for Mr. Crow, and unless he came upon him when the old fellow was asleep, I'll answer for it he couldn't kill him, for the president of our club is always wide awake. "Do you know, I've seen Mr. Man, his boy Tommy, and two of the servants, out looking for that same old crow, and shooting off their guns till you'd thought it was Fourth of July, and yet never a single tail feather belonging to Mr. Crow was rumpled. When you catch Pg 99 Mr. Weasel asleep you may kill that bird; but not before. "Of course, when I saw that Jimmy had got away I started off after him, for it wasn't pleasant to stay there while Mr. Man was in such a rage, because he might try to get even with me on account of the carrots, so off I toddled, taking precious good care to keep under cover all the while, till I came to the big oak, and there was Jimmy, washing his face. I can't make out how he succeeds in doing it without nearly killing himself with the quills that stick up all over his body. "'He never touched me!' Jimmy said with a grin, when he saw me, and I thought that was a good time to read him a lecture on the wicked folly of being so careless when he knew as well as I do that everybody on the farm is ready to kill one of the Hedgehog family, though why people should be so down on Jimmy's folks I can't make out, for they mind their business as a general rule. "'You needn't talk to me, ' Jimmy said before I'd more than half spoken what was in my mind. 'After that jump of mine I'll back myself against the whole farm gang.' Pg 100 "'But you'd have stood there like a silly till your head was shot off if it hadn't been for Mr. Crow, ' I said, just a bit provoked because Jimmy seemed to take all the credit of the escape to himself. "'How do you know?' he asked, speaking as pert as ever did Cheeko. 'You can't tell, but I was getting ready to jump at the very minute Mr. Crow came sailing around, as if he'd gone crazy.'... Book Synopsis Three Days As the Crow Flies by : Danny Simmons
Download or read book Three Days As the Crow Flies written by Danny Simmons and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-05-11 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renowned painter, art impresario, and cofounder of Def Poetry Jam, Danny Simmons captures the atmosphere of the 1980s art and nightclub scene in New York City's East Village in this accomplished debut novel. Crow Shade is a quick-witted college drop-out blinded to his own worth by his drug habit. After stealing three paintings and a manuscript from an artist friend in order to scare up some drug money, Crow finds himself in an eccentric circle of people who open the door to what seems a golden opportunity: access to more drugs, sex, and money than he ever imagined. With a facility that surprises even himself, Crow manages to convince a gallery owner that he's the artist, and the paintings are shown in an exhibit attended by such A-list art-world players and celebrities as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, and even Joseph "Rev. Run DMC" Simmons -- the author's real-life sibling. As the stakes grow ever higher, all in the pursuit of a good time, Crow begins to worry whether this time he's finally dug himself a hole of deception deeper than he can overcome. Written with an unerring ear for real-world conversational rhythms, Three Days as the Crow Flies keeps readers engaged, wondering if and when the impressive lies Crow Shade strings together -- not to mention the artist friend he robbed -- will ever catch up to him. Exuberant and ingeniously structured, the novel is funny, sexy, and pitch-perfect in its evocation of the textures and vernacular of the now-legendary New York art scene.

Download or read book Wenham written by Annette V. Janes and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Established in 1643, the picturesque town of Wenham is located in the heart of Essex County on Massachusetts's North Shore. The town boasts of a "great pond" with ice so clear that "Queen Victoria would have no other," 11 First Period Colonial homes, the Wenham Museum, an immense and wild swamp, a unique teahouse, and a doll that traveled the world as a goodwill ambassador. Historically, Wenham was a farming community, but the advent of the railroad in 1839 and electric cars in 1895 brought opportunity for businesses, such as a leather and a shoe factory, and the ice trade. By 1940, only small shops remained. Wenham proudly retains its historic and pastoral charm today.
