Book excerpt: The Claret Pals are just an ordinary group of Burnley FC supporters who meet up at a pub before every away fixture to eat, drink and sing raucous football songs. However, a series of sickeningly gruesome murders begins occurring close to the pubs they’re meeting in, and the killer is leaving clues seemingly trying to frame the group. With the evidence piling up, the police begin looking closely at The Claret Pals, assuming that the killer must be one of them. Members of the group decide to take matters into their own hands. With time running out, they desperately begin piecing together a puzzle that becomes more complicated. They need to act swiftly because, unknown to them, the killer has shifted their sights, and The Claret Pals are in the centre of the crosshairs. Will they solve the puzzle and prevent the killer striking against them? Or is it already too late?

Book Synopsis Great Benny Leonard by : John Jarrett
Download or read book Great Benny Leonard written by John Jarrett and published by eBook Partnership. This book was released on 2021-06-28 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Benny Leonard was arguably the greatest lightweight champion of all time. With superb boxing skills and potent punching power, he fought over 200 times and suffered just five defeats. He spent his boyhood in a crime-ridden ghetto in Manhattan's Lower East Side, and was the greatest of a long line of Jewish boxers to emerge from the slums. Leonard was still only 19 when he knocked out Freddie Welsh to become world lightweight king in 1917. He defended the title eight times and retired as undefeated champion in 1925, to please the only woman he loved, his mother. But the 1929 Wall Street Crash wiped out his fortune and he was forced to make a comeback at 35. Leonard fought the best of his era: Johnny Dundee, Johnny Kilbane, Rocky Kansas, Jack Britton, Ted Kid Lewis and Lew Tendler among them. Apart from being a sublime boxer, Benny was a first-class showman who helped to put boxing on a higher plane. He died as he lived - in the ring - while refereeing a fight at age 51. This is the definitive account of his remarkable life and career.

Book Synopsis Fabric of the Game by : Chris Creamer
Download or read book Fabric of the Game written by Chris Creamer and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2020-11-03 with total page 740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An in-depth look into the origins of how each NHL team was named, received their logo and design, with interviews by those responsible. Written by those most knowledgeable, you'll learn why every hockey team to every play in the National Hockey League looks the way it does. Nothing unites or divides a random assortment of strangers quite like the hockey team for which they cheer. The passion they hold within them for the New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, or Boston Bruins allows them to look past any differences which would have otherwise disrupted a perfectly fine Thanksgiving dinner and channels it into a powerful, shared admiration for their team. We decorate our lives with their logos, stock our wardrobe with their jerseys, and, in some cases, even tattoo our bodies with their iconography and colors. They’re so ingrained in our lives we don’t even think to ask ourselves why Los Angeles celebrates royalty; why Buffalo cheers for not one, but two massive cavalry swords; or why the Broadway Blueshirts named themselves for a law enforcement agency in Texas (or why they even wear blue shirts, for that matter). All that and more is explored in Fabric of the Game, authored by two of the sports world’s leading experts in team branding and design: Chris Creamer and Todd Radom. Tapping into their vast knowledge of the whys and hows, Creamer and Radom explore and share the origin stories behind these and more, talking directly to those involved in the decision processes and designs of the National Hockey League’s team names, logos, and uniforms, pouring through historical accounts to find and deliver the answers to these questions. Learn more about the historied Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks, as well as the lost but not forgotten Hartford Whalers and Quebec Nordiques, all the way to the lesser-known Kansas City Scouts and Philadelphia Quakers. Whichever team you pledge allegiance, Fabric of the Game covers them in-depth with research and knowledge for any hockey fan to enjoy.

Book Synopsis Delphi Collected Works of P. G. Wodehouse (Illustrated) by : P. G. Wodehouse

This book was released on 2021-01-23 with total page 8300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An English comic novelist and short story writer, P. G. Wodehouse is best known as the creator of the young bachelor Bertie Wooster and his effortlessly superior manservant Jeeves. Wodehouse penned over 90 books and secured a devoted readership across the world. His first success came as a writer of public school stories, based on his own childhood experiences, most notably introducing the strikingly original character, Psmith. These were followed by light romances, but in 1913, with the publication of the first Blandings Castle novel, ‘Something New’, he turned to farce, which became his preferred genre of work. Wodehouse is celebrated for his scholarly command of the English sentence, blended with vivid, far-fetched imagery and the uproarious slang of the late Edwardian era. His novels feature highly complicated plots and hilarious situations, revealing the hand of a master humorist. This comprehensive eBook offers the most complete edition possible of P. G. Wodehouse, with numerous illustrations, rare texts, informative introductions and the usual Delphi bonus material. Book Synopsis Licensed to Laugh by : Charlie Woodham
Download or read book Licensed to Laugh written by Charlie Woodham and published by Paragon Publishing. This book was released on 2015-07-29 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Licensed to Laugh is Charlie Woodham’s life story full of hilarious tales from his early school days, National Service antics and amusing anecdotes from a varied working life – including 5 years as a Pub Landlord… …the only way to tackle the job was to use the pub’s powerful vacuum cleaner. I approached the cage rather as a soldier with a flame thrower might approach a machine gun bunker. The sodding parrot never took its eyes off me, all its feathers fluffed up and it made a sort of low growling noise – this was war. I lunged forward pushed the nozzle between the bars and with much screeching the parrot began its attack. A swirling cloud of old bird seed, feathers and dried parrot shit poured forth from the cage. I stuck gamely to my task. I stepped back to view my handiwork. As the dust settled I saw a clean cage and a semi bald parrot. In my frenzied efforts I had managed to suck up a lot of its feathers. The landlord returned looking tanned and fit - mind you the tan faded a shade or two when he saw what was left of his beloved parrot. He was not convinced by my explanation that the parrot’s condition was probably caused by what I described, rather creatively I thought, as ‘seasonal moulting’.
