After His resurrection, He gave them the charge beautifully termed, "The Great Commission" which made the whole of creation its mission field (Matt. 28:19-20). Download or read book A Children's History of the Church written by John Mason Neale and published by . This book was released on 2017-02-08 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finally! Church history presented in an easily understandable 'living book' form appropriate for young people! "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20) John Mason Neale beautifully captures the struggle of the early Church: from her humble beginnings in Jerusalem, through her rapid spread throughout the ancient world as the apostles scattered far and wide to proclaim the Word of God, to her challenges of preserving the Faith in spite of the many temptations that flooded the Church after its legalization. Included in this volume are stories of some of her greatest saints, -martyrs glorifying God under intense persecution, and defenders of the Faith fighting for Truth against a wide assortment of heretical teachings. Using an immensely engaging style of narration, this work is truly a classic, offering great historical detail in a story form that captures both the mind and heart of a child. This edition includes many added illustrations, biblical, patristic and historical references, as well as an extensive appendix, increasing its educational value for readers of all ages. From a Chalcedon Orthodox Christian point-of-view.
Book Synopsis The Age of Paradise by : John Strickland
Download or read book The Age of Paradise written by John Strickland and published by Ancient Faith Publishing. This book was released on 2019-07-25 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Before there was a West, there was Christendom. This book tells the story of how both came to be." (from the Introduction) The Age of Paradise is the first of a projected four-volume history of Christendom, a civilization with a supporting culture that gave rise to what we now call the West. At a time of renewed interest in the future of Western culture, author John Strickland-an Orthodox scholar, professor, and priest-offers a vision rooted in the deep past of the first millennium. At the heart of his story is the early Church's "culture of paradise," an experience of the world in which the kingdom of heaven was tangible and familiar. Drawing not only on worship and theology but statecraft and the arts, the author reveals the remarkably affirmative character Western culture once had under the influence of Christianity-in particular, of Eastern Christendom, which served the West not only as a cradle but as a tutor and guardian as well.
Book Synopsis The Korean Pentecost and the Sufferings which Followed by : William Newton Blair
Download or read book The Korean Pentecost and the Sufferings which Followed written by William Newton Blair and published by Banner of Truth. This book was released on 1977 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1977 the Trust published this remarkable account of the first 60 years or so of the modern church in Korea (mainly North Korea). William Blair (1876- 1970), in his first term of missionary service, was at the centre of the great revival of 1907, and his account of this and the events leading up to it forms the first part of the book. Blair includes a thrilling description of how the gospel first came to Korea. The account is then taken up by his son-in-law, Bruce Hunt (1903- 92) born in Pyengyang, now the capital of North Korea who shows how the revival was followed by a baptism of suffering under the Japanese and Communists. During his forty-eight years of missionary service in Korea, Hunt personally knew many of the Korean Christian martyrs. This new edition of The Korean Pentecost has been completely re-typeset, and includes twelve additional illustrations.
Book Synopsis The Pentecostal Mission in Palestine by : Eric Nelson Newberg
Download or read book The Pentecostal Mission in Palestine written by Eric Nelson Newberg and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-06-13 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pentecostal mission in Palestine is a virtually unknown episode in the history of Pentecostalism. Its story begins in 1906 at the Azusa Street Revival, from which missionaries were sent to Palestine. In its first thirty years, the Pentecostal mission in Palestine gained a foothold in Jerusalem and expanded its reach into Jordan, Syria, and Iran. It was severely tested and lost traction during the tumultuous period of the Arab Revolts, World War II, and the Partition Crisis. With the catastrophic war of 1948, the Pentecostal missionaries fled as their Arab clients were swept away in the Palestinian Diaspora. After 1948, a valiant attempt was made to revive the mission, but only with relative success. Although the Pentecostal missionaries failed in their objective of converting Jews and Muslims, they were eyewitnesses of the formative events of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Newberg argues that the Pentecostal missionaries functioned as brokers of Pentecostal Zionism. He offers a postcolonial assessment of the Pentecostal missionaries, crediting them for advocating philosemitism, yet bringing them up short for disregarding the civil rights of Palestinian Arabs, espousing Islamophobia, and contributing to the forces working against peace in the Holy Land.

Download or read book All Together in One Place written by Harold D. Hunter and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-02-21 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global pentecostal charismatic movement, as it launches into the twenty-first century, outdistances current attempts at classification and clarification. Although scholarly theologizing has not been the hallmark of the movement, the current surge of pentecostal-charismatic scholars confounds the accepted antithesis between expressive narrative and reflective theology. Brighton ‘91, which featured Professor Jurgen Moltmann and the Archbishop of Canterbury, was a symposium unprecedented in the range of participating scholars drawn form six continents. They gave voice to new insights for handling racism, sexism, socioeconomic oppression and the environment, thus modeling a legitimate postmodern agenda.

Download or read book The Latter Rain Covenant written by D. Wesley Myland and published by . This book was released on 2014-02-04 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Latter Rain Covenant! Who ever heard of it before? Of course we have read about "The Days of Heaven on the Earth," in Deuteronomy, but who has seen that those days were to be introduced through the spiritual outworkings of this Covenant? What a wonderful God. No man could have thought these lectures out; they bear the imprint of Heaven's teaching. How marvelous the BOOK! It's treasures are deep and lie hidden, except to the mind of the Spirit, who reveals them to whomsoever He will. These lectures with the exception of the "Pentecostal Psalm" were delivered in the Stone Church, Chicago, at a Pentecostal convention called in the Spring of 1909 for ten days but which continued under the blessing of God for twenty five days. Prayer as well as reading, will be necessary to a clear, spiritual understanding of these lectures. Language fails to express the blessing they have been to me. By Wm. Hamner Piper, Pastor, The Stone Church, Chicago, IL February 1910 - Chicago, Illinois The book became the classical definitive apologetic for the validation of the Pentecostal outpouring as the fulfillment of the expected "Latter Rain." The publication also received a high recommendation from Vicar Alexander A. Boddy of Sunderland, England. Boddy was an Anglican Vicar who was baptized in the Holy Spirit and is considered one of the founders of Pentecostalism in Britain. Boddy wrote in the introduction for Myland's The Latter Rain Covenant and Pentecostal Power, "There has been much literature issued of late in connection with the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, but nothing more scriptural or more satisfying has been printed than this remarkable book by Pastor D. Wesley Myland, which I now warmly commend to God's people everywhere. Boddy went on to write that Myland's book, "Should be found in every Pentecostal home," Because, "It is an invaluable work of reference on the all-important subject of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit."
