Greed, ambition, and the misuse of taxpayer money are nothing new. This book depicts the classic struggle between might and right; and between raw power and thoughtful evaluation. For some, the will of the people doesn't matter since "people don't count" as one major character says in the book. The Plot to Cancel Christmas is about character, and the conflicting emotions and forces that permeate human life- greed, fear, love, tradition, duty, and conscience. One reviewer stated, ..".a timeless tale that speaks volumes to all of us...a modern Christmas Carol." "A book that gives you pause- Could this really happen?" ..".the characters literally dance from the page." ..".a punch in the heart and a hug at the same time." ..".a gift that will put your life in perspective." "A Classic Battle between might & right! Superb!"

Book excerpt: A memoir of a husband and father’s recovery from alcohol and drugs reveals how being alcohol-free has made his life richer. Many people struggle with substance abuse in the shadows feeling ashamed, alone, and inadequate. You are not alone. Many of us keep up appearances while at the same time kicking ourselves every time we stumble into bed drunk out of our minds. Many of us say, “never again,” only to drink again at 5:00pm. You are not alone. There is a way out of this. After Party is the story of how one person, Drew Charles, dug his way out of the spiral of drug and alcohol excess. While doing so, he discovered that sobriety is not the impossibly boring state of living so many of us fear but is filled with joy and excitement in ways we can’t predict when we are stuck in the loop of drinking and drug taking. After Party is the honest account of Drew’s first year of sobriety, how he did it, and more importantly, why he did it. Drew’s hope is that anyone who battles with alcohol and drugs, or just feels curious about sobriety, can take solace in knowing that life not only exists beyond alcohol, but that it sings with a clarity and depth of emotion many of us would never have thought possible.

Book excerpt: Before Emily in Paris, there was Kim in NYC. Swap out Crazy Rich Asians for Crazy Broke Asians, lured by the city that never sleeps in search of their American dreams. Kim was ready to take a bite off the Big Apple, but the Big Apple decided to take a bite off her. This memoir showcases a SoHo-living, straight girl in an LG, sans the BTQA+ world. Kim's NYC adventure started in 2001, and she faced serious challenges. Everything from being a diamond runner to being laid off from her advertising job due to discrimination. She battled racism, gender bias, and xenophobia before 'Woke Culture' even had a name. She shares her colorful life, from her rooftop parties that attracted more than just party-goers to surprising romantic encounters and shocking revelations in the midst of a feminist sexual revolution. She gives the scoop on her brushes with the drug scene, the porn industry, and even her bond with a homeless man. Plus, she's got some juicy stories about dating a mysterious actor, surviving NYC's biggest blackout, and celebrity run-ins. This book is a shout-out to those who braved the Big Apple, fell through the cracks, but kept going. To her, it's not about success, it's about courage. This is a tale about finding your place in a new world, finding comfort amidst chaos, finding love, and getting stronger through setbacks and failures. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection explores how the British left has interacted with the ‘Irish question’ throughout the twentieth century, the left’s expression of solidarity with Irish republicanism and relationships built with Irish political movements. Throughout the twentieth century, the British left expressed, to varying degrees, solidarity with Irish republicanism and fostered links with republican, nationalist, socialist and labour groups in Ireland. Although this peaked with the Irish Revolution from 1916 to 1923 and during the ‘Troubles’ in the 1970s–80s, this collection shows that the British left sought to build relationships with their Irish counterparts (in both the North and South) from the Edwardian to Thatcherite period. However these relationships were much more fraught and often reflected an imperial dynamic, which hindered political action at different stages during the century. This collection explores various stages in Irish political history where the British left attempted to engage with what was happening across the Irish Sea. The chapters in this book were originally published in the journal, Contemporary British History.
