Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The characters in this story portray our Christian society as broken. Theology alone was found to be lacking of the all-important substance which could restore Christ's fragmented body. From the birth of the church in the first century to the present, Christianity has been fragmented by the lack of love. Paul taught the early firstcentury Christian churches to be patient, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep the unity (Eph. 4:23 NIV). Unity is the theme within the pages of The Christian Anatomy at a Glance. We neither intend to compromise Christ's law nor legitimize all church law. Among parts of the body of Christ, Christian unity was found as love, and grace was practiced. Our emphasis of conformity has now dissipated from a gloomy day of the past into one filled with sunshine and hope. We replaced legalism by loving and hoping for real unity of Christ's church. The husband of Linda, much more than a wife for over fifty-two years, parented together four: Debbie, Jimmy, Dana, and Kristy. He is a grandfather of ten, Cal, JD, Brandon, Madison, Rees, Owen, Ashlyn, Hayden, Cooper, and Harrison. His education consists of High School and United States Navy schools in the field of ordinance, Charleston Naval Shipyard. He has been self-employed for forty-three years, a manufacturer of machined components vital to river and oceangoing vessels, surveying and performing on-site specialty machining projects in international locations including Doha, Bahrain, Africa, Japan, China, South Central and North America. His formal education may be minimal, but self-education is extensive, focusing on faith in God, motivated by hard work and a determination to succeed. Christ has been a dominant force in his life from early boyhood. As a pilot for the past forty-eight years, the consuming passion for flying has played a huge roll in his life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is with the heart that we believe. When we receive Jesus into our hearts, we are declared His own and are transformed into His likenessinto a new person in Christ. The sad reality is that while many Christians truly believe, they struggle to find a clear picture of how spiritual transformation is to take place in their life. Over and over, the Bible points to the heart as the agent of our transformation, but the scriptures do not refer to the physical heart beating in our chests. But could they? What if the physical heart could serve as a compelling model of spiritual development and transformation? Drawing from examples in scripture as well as her own challenges with grasping the concept of spiritual transformation, in The Anatomy of The Heart, JaNeen Dancy challenges readers to take a closer look at the physical heart for insightful analysis of the spiritual heart. The hearts at the center of our physical life and spiritual life may be more similar than we know, and a greater understanding of one may lead to a deeper understanding, and ultimate victory, in the other.

Book excerpt: Beautifully written, passionately argued and frequently controversial, God: An Anatomy is cultural history on a grand scale. Three thousand years ago, in the Southwest Asian lands we now call Israel and Palestine, a group of people worshipped a complex pantheon of deities, led by a father god called El. El had seventy children, who were gods in their own right. One of them was a minor storm deity, known as Yahweh. Yahweh had a body, a wife, offspring and colleagues. He fought monsters and mortals. He gorged on food and wine, wrote books, and took walks and naps. But he would become something far larger and far more abstract: the God of the great monotheistic religions. But as Professor Francesca Stavrakopoulou reveals, God’s cultural DNA stretches back centuries before the Bible was written, and persists in the tics and twitches of our own society, whether we are believers or not. The Bible has shaped our ideas about God and religion, but also our cultural preferences about human existence and experience; our concept of life and death; our attitude to sex and gender; our habits of eating and drinking; our understanding of history. Examining God’s body, from his head to his hands, feet and genitals, she shows how the Western idea of God developed. She explores the places and artefacts that shaped our view of this singular God and the ancient religions and societies of the biblical world. And in doing so she analyses not only the origins of our oldest monotheistic religions, but also the origins of Western culture.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a clear, straightforward definition such as this, the subject of the church isn't one that most people would consider a "doctrine." For this reason, there aren't many books that deal with this crucial fundamental belief. This very readable and informative treatment of such a vital topic fills an important gap in Adventist literature. Reinder Bruinsma's far-ranging look at the doctrine of the church moves from Old and New Testament foundations for this doctrine up through church government and on to controversial issues such as ordination and church discipline. Fittingly, he concludes with the mission and future of the church. His fourfold approach-biblical and theological, historical, practical, and with an Adventist perspective-ensures that every facet of the doctrine is explored in detail. This thought-provoking discussion challenges those who call themselves "God's people" to examine their current understanding of the church and to prayerfully consider their roles as part of the body of Christ.
