Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been written as an introduction to the electro synthesis of organic compounds, in particular for organic chemists. Both authors assume that the knowledge of electro chemistry of these specialists is rather poor and is usually based only on the remnants of the teaching in the courses on physical and analytical chemistry during their university stud ies. Even with Czech chemists one cannot expect - as it was in the past - the experience obtained in the courses on polaro graphy. This is the reason why it was deemed necessary to write an introductory text to the electro synthesis of organics both as regards the theoretical and the methodological point of view, i. e. the fundamentals, the experimental setup, the application of various working and reference electrodes, the shape and con struction of electrolysis cells, the use of suitable pro tic and aprotic solvents, the experience obtained with various sup porting electrolytes, the separation and isolation of products, as well as the use of inert gases which prevent the interaction of intermediates and of final products with, for example, oxygen or traces of water. - The second part of the book contains a systematic description of preparative organic electrochemical processes, the interpretation of their mechanisms and several prescriptions for synthesizing characteristical groups of com pounds. As a whole the book is not written in an exhaustive way.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demonstrates the advantages of catalytic cascade reactions for synthesizing natural products and pharmaceuticals Riding the wave of green chemistry, catalytic cascade reactions have become one of the most active research areas in organic synthesis. During a cascade reaction, just one reaction solvent, one workup procedure, and one purification step are needed, thus significantly increasing synthetic efficiency. Featuring contributions from an international team of pioneers in the field, Catalytic Cascade Reactions demonstrates the versatility and application of these reactions for synthesizing valuable compounds. The book examines both organocatalysis and transition-metal catalysis reactions, bringing readers up to date with the latest discoveries and activities in all major areas of catalytic cascade reaction research. Catalytic Cascade Reactions begins with three chapters dedicated to organocatalytic cascade reactions, exploring amines, Brønsted acids, and the application of organocatalytic cascade reactions in natural product synthesis and drug discovery. Next, the book covers: Gold-catalyzed cascade reactions Cascade reactions catalyzed by ruthenium, iron, iridium, rhodium, and copper Palladium-catalyzed cascade reactions of alkenes, alkynes, and allenes Application of transition-metal catalyzed cascade reactions in natural product synthesis and drug discovery Engineering mono- and multifunctional nanocatalysts for cascade reactions Multiple-catalyst-promoted cascade reactions All chapters are thoroughly referenced, providing quick access to important original research findings and reviews so that readers can explore individual topics in greater depth. Drawing together and analyzing published findings scattered across the literature, this book provides a single source that encapsulates our current understanding of catalytic cascade processes. Moreover, it sets the stage for the development of new catalytic cascade reactions and their applications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrochemical reactions make significant contributions to organic synthesis either in the laboratory or on an industrial scale. These methods have the potential for developing more "green" chemical synthesis. Over recent years, modern investigations have clarified the mechanisms of important organic electrochemical reactions. Progress has also been made in controlling the reactivity of intermediates through either radical or ionic pathways. Now is the time to gather all the electrochemical work into a textbook. As an essential addition to the armory of synthetic organic chemists, electrochemical reactions give results not easily achieved by many other chemical routes. This book presents a logical development of reactions and mechanisms in organic electrochemistry at a level suited to research scientists and final year graduate students. It forms an excellent starting point from which synthetic organic chemists, in both academia and industry, can appreciate uses for electrochemical methods in their own work. The book is also a reference guide to the literature.

Book excerpt: The volume Electrochemistry VI of Topics in Current Chemistry is subtitled Electroorganic Synthesis: Bond Formations at the Anode and Cathode. It highlights both the current value and the large potential of organic electrochemistry for the selective formation of carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds and for the generation of complex organic molecules using electrochemical key steps. The contents range from the synthesis of natural products to the preparation of pharmaceuticals, from the generation of unsymmetrical biaryls to the construction of peptide mimetics. The pros and cons of the electroorganic procedure as compared to alternative methods are discussed and mechanistic considerations are included. Experts in their fields present recent results.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Electron Transfer Chemistry, Volume 4 presents the reaction mechanisms involving the movement of single electrons. This book discusses the electron transfer reactions in organic, biochemical, organometallic, and excited state systems. Organized into four chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the photochemical behavior of two classes of sulfonium salt derivatives. This text then examines the parameters that control the efficiencies for radical ion pair formation. Other chapters consider the progress in the development of parameters that control the dynamics and reaction pathways for radical ion pairs produced by the diffusional quenching of photoexcited molecules. This book discusses as well the criteria for distinguishing concerted from stepwise mechanisms in electrochemical and homogeneous reductive cleavage reactions in polar solvents. The final chapter deals with excited-state chemical transformation, particularly on photoinduced SET reactions in which amines and related substances serve as electron donors. This book is a valuable resource for scientists and electrochemists.
