Book excerpt: Breaking down complex technology into easy-to-understand concepts, this hands-on, system-level resource offers expert guidance in designing, optimizing, and managing a CDMA2000 wireless network. The book focuses on the development of practical knowledge that can be readily applied in the field, and also provides the theoretical background needed to effectively engineer a 3G network. Offering a deeper, richer treatment of critical topics than other books in this area, this unique reference concentrates on "how" and "why" the technology works in addition to providing descriptions of technology. You learn the key requirements of a 3G network and the relevant CDMA2000 features that satisfy these requirements. The book thoroughly explains the protocol layer framework and provides an in-depth discussion of power control and handoff functionalities. Additionally, it delivers an extensive treatment of system performance and design, addressing the important tradeoff between system coverage and capacity. A chapter on network architecture clearly explains how the CDMA2000 interface works and interacts with other elements in the network as a whole. Moreover, the book includes a detailed presentation of 1xEV-DO, explaining the differences between 1xEV-DO and CDMA2000, the ways both technologies operate in tandem, and how 1xEV-DO delivers high-rate packet data services.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CDMA is the second most widely deployed technology in the world with more than 100 million subscribers worldwide and is projected to reach 280 million subscribers by 2006. CDMA 2000 1x was deployed in year 2000 and CDMA 2000 1xEVDO is being deployed this year. CDMA 2000 is the natural migration for CDMA IS-95 networks and some of the TDMA networks. CDMA technology is complex to design due to its inherent adaptive characteristic and the introduction of data requires a complete new way of analysing the network from traffic characteristics to performance requirements. The authors bring a wealth of experience in developing solutions for wireless design at CelPlan Technologies, Inc. since 1992. They followed up the evolution of the wireless technology providing innovative solutions at each step. In this book they summarize the description of the CDMA 2000 technology, revisit basic design concepts and propose new solutions to design and optimise these complex networks. Many of the design issues covered in this book apply also to the novel WCDMA networks that are proposed as the evolution of GSM networks. Designing CDMA 2000 Systems: Describes in detail the structure of CDMA 2000 systems and provides guidelines for their design and optimisation Fills a major gap in the information available today serving as a comprehensive reference for designers and operators Provides coverage from introductory to specialist level Designing CDMA 2000 Systems is highly relevant for engineers involved in the design or operation of CDMA systems, as well as providing a broad understanding of the area for researchers, professors and students in the field

Book excerpt: The textbook acquaints the reader with the architecture of receivers of analog and digital radio systems, helps to study the stages of designing a modern radio receiver and reveals the reasons and methods for its effective operation in networks for various purposes. Particular attention is paid to the methods of generating and processing signals in the receivers of digital systems with multiple access, which make it possible to provide data transfer rates close to the maximum possible (according to Shannon). As a textbook for students studying methods of optimal signal reception, the book will also be useful to specialists in the field of telecommunications involved in the development of radio receivers. The book shows how the development of theoretical, circuitry and integrated technologies led to the active introduction of algorithmic methods for signal processing changed both the design of receivers and the methods of forming the information flow in free space (MIMO, beamforming). The creation of a global 5G network based on heterogeneous networks puts forward new requirements for the architecture of receivers, which are determined by the requirements to achieve high data rates, low time delays or use in networks with coordinated multipoint transmission and reception (CoMP). To consolidate the knowledge gained, the book includes a complete set of materials for online classes, including questions and answers, a guide to solving problems for each chapter, and computer modeling units of receivers in the MicroCAP environment, based on preliminary calculations.
