Book Synopsis Handbook of Carcinogenic Potency and Genotoxicity Databases by : Lois Swirsky Gold
Download or read book Handbook of Carcinogenic Potency and Genotoxicity Databases written by Lois Swirsky Gold and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996-11-26 with total page 840 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique new reference contains the Carcinogenic Potency Database (CPDB), which analyzes results of decades of animal cancer tests, including all Technical Reports of the National Toxicology Program (NTP) and the general published literature. A guide to the literature of animal cancer tests, the CPDB includes references to each published experiment and never-before published analyses. For each of 5,000 long-term experiments on 1,300 chemicals, the user-friendly format includes data on the species, strain, and sex of the test animal; features of experimental protocol such as the route of administration, duration of dosing, dose levels, and duration of the experiment; histopathology and tumor incidence; the shape of the dose-response curve; published author's opinion about the carcinogenicity at each site; and reference to the original publication of the test results. In addition, a measure of carcinogenic potency, the TD50, its statistical significance and confidence limits, are given for each tumor site. An overview is provided of earlier publication updates, such as positivity rates, reproducibility, interspecies extrapolation, and ranking possible carcinogenic hazards. The book also includes a summary of the NTP genetic toxicity test results on 1,500 chemicals, which are referenced to the original publications, including the Salmonella (Ames) test, L5178Y mouse lymphoma cell mutation test, chromosome aberration and sister chromatid exchange tests in cultured Chinese hamster ovary cells, and the sex-linked recessive lethal mutation test in Drosophila melanogaster. An index with chemicals listed by CAS number allows cross referencing between the carcinogenicity and genotoxicity databases, making data easy to find.

Book Synopsis Report on Carcinogens (12th Ed. ) by : Nat. Toxicology Program (NTP) (NIH)
Download or read book Report on Carcinogens (12th Ed. ) written by Nat. Toxicology Program (NTP) (NIH) and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011-10-08 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Report on Carcinogens (RoC) is a congressionally mandated, science-based, public health document that identifies and discusses agents, substances, mixtures, or exposure circumstances (hereinafter referred to as "substances") that may pose a hazard to human health by virtue of their carcinogenicity. For each listed substance, the report contains a substance profile which provides information on (1) the listing status, (2) cancer studies in humans and animals, (3) studies of genotoxicity (ability to damage genes) and biologic mechanisms, (4) the potential for human exposure to these substances, and (5) Federalregulations to limit exposures. Eight substances have been added to this 12th ed. of the report, which now includes 240 listings. The industrial chemical formaldehyde and a botanical known as aristolochic acids are listed as known human carcinogens. Six other substances captafol, cobalt-tungsten carbide (in powder or hard metal form), certain inhalable glass wool fibers, o-nitrotoluene, riddelliine, and styrene are added as substances that are reasonably anticipated to be human carcinogens. Figures. This is a print on demand report.

Book Synopsis Cancer. A Comprehensive Treatise by : Frederick Becker
Download or read book Cancer. A Comprehensive Treatise written by Frederick Becker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 792 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series of books attempts to present, in a comprehensive manner, the field of oncology divided into three major areas; etiology, biology, and therapy. These books should serve as landmarks in the rapidly expanding experimental and clinical "universe" of this field. To some, they will be introductory; to others, a summary; for all, critical comments on the futuI'e of research. In l'ecognition of the difficulties inherent in attempting to pause and reflect while experimental data emerge with ever-increasing rapidity, the presentations take the form of overviews rather than reviews. Where possible, an historical perspective on observations and experimentation which led to our present understanding is presented, the state of the art in technique and approach is reviewed, and the gaps in knowledge and in technique are indicated. The aim throughout is integration-using the findings from one approach for comparison with others. The tremendous expansion of interest in oncology as a medical-biological discipline stimulated the publication of these volumes. This expansion, well warranted in terms of the impact of oncology on human morbidity, has been characterized by at least three phenomena. First, there has been an enormous increase in money and manpower devoted to the investigation and treatment of malignancy. That the research has become more and more "directed" or program-oriented signals the interest of those beyond the scientific community in the management of the eHort. Second, increasing numbers of students are entering the field of oncology as their major training program.
