Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Towering Novel! Chuck Culver's Best Work. Retired doctor David Somerset, grief-stricken with the recent loss of his beloved wife, is trying painfully to follow through with plans they both made to the English Cotswolds and to restore a 600-hundred-year-old cottage. Although he makes friends with a number of colorful locals in the town of Winchcomb, he is still agonizing over his loss. Then rescue arrives in the form of a mysterious metal box a workman finds in the walls of his cottage. Inside the box, straight from the 16th century, is a rare Tyndale Bible, the first English translation of the Scriptures and the cause of Thomas Tyndale's branding as a heretic by the Catholic Church and his burning at the stake. Also enclosed is the diary of a hitherto unknown priest named Father Christopher Moore, who was Tyndale's best friend and later a chaplain in the court of Henry VIII. The Calm in the Late Afternoon is one of those novels that is more than a read. It's a joyful immersion in life.

Download or read book The Calm Before Storm written by Rick TURNER and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-08-09 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has it all, travel, adventure, romance, comedy, drama, sex and speedway racing. It is a story about living our dream of traveling Australia and the world, at the same time pursuing our great sporting love, speedway. From our caravan travels through Northern New South Wales and Southern Queensland to the lush, green hills of the Emerald Isle, the historic ruins of Italy, the desert climes of Dubai, our visit to see our daughter in South Africa and to be there for the birth of our first grandchild. We had such an adventure. But, this was before the Global Financial Crisis and before the collapse of Townsville-based STORM Financial in whose hands we had trustfully placed our financial future. Little did we know what devastation lay ahead. Still, my story here, covers a much calmer time and will hopefully entice budding retirees to be a little adventurous when planning future travels. It was fun while it lasted.
Book Synopsis The Attentive Life by : Leighton Ford
Download or read book The Attentive Life written by Leighton Ford and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Your attention, please. That's what God wants, Leighton Ford discovered. It's the path to becoming like Christ. Distractions, fear and busyness were keeping Ford from seeing God's work in and around him. He was missing God. So he began a journey of longing and looking for God. And it started with paying attention. In these pages, he invites you to journey with him. Using the rich monastic tradition of praying the hours, Ford will walk with you, helping you pay attention to God's work in you and around you throughout each day and in different seasons of your life. If you're busy, distracted, rushing through each day, you might be feeling disconnected from God, unable to see how he's working. You might be missing him. But the way toward him starts with a pause and a prayer—with intention and attention—and becomes a way of life, awake and alive to the peaceful, powerful presence of God.

Their conflict, however, overlays older struggles between nations of native Americans for possession of the same lands and between the native peoples and white colonisers. Through these layers of conflict Cooper threads a thrilling narrative, in which Cora and Alice Munro, daughters of a British commander on the front line of the colonial war, attempt to join their father. Thwarted by Magua, the sinister 'Indian runner', they find help in the person of Hawkeye, the white woodsman, and his companions, the Mohican Chingachgook and Uncas, his son, the last of his tribe.

Book Synopsis The First Helicopter Boys by : David Taylor
Download or read book The First Helicopter Boys written by David Taylor and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2019-06-30 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Indonesian Confrontation that raged from 1963 to 1966 stemmed from Indonesia’s opposition to the creation of Malaysia. Fighting in the challenging jungle terrain of Borneo and in the countryside straddling the Malaysia/Indonesia border, where there were few roads, posed significant logistical challenges to both sides. That the conflict was ultimately a victory for the Commonwealth forces was in due in no small part to the fact that they enjoyed the advantage of vastly superior helicopter resources and better trained crews – many of which were provided by British units. During the Confrontation, many of these vital helicopter assets were flown by pilots and crews who had gained their knowledge and experience firsthand during the Malayan Emergency, one of the Cold War’s first flash-points which had begun in 1948. Without doubt, the Malayan Emergency marked the formative years of the RAF’s and Royal Navy’s helicopter operations – the very early days in fact, when equipment and knowledge were much more basic. It was a time when operational procedures were still under development, even though the helicopters were already being flown on front line service. Told in the main through their own words, by the RAF and Royal Navy air and ground crews involved, this is the story of how these ‘guinea pigs’ undertook many of Britain’s first rotary wing combat operations and, therefore, cemented their rightful place in the history of the helicopter.
