This book plucks Amenhotep III, who ruled for 38 years and called himself "dazzing" from the shadows of his son, Akhenaten, and grandson Tutankhamen, and follows his life from conception to Afterlife. The prince's multi-faceted education and possible early career are outlined. As king, his many wives, especially the great queen Tiy, and interational relations, including trade in West Asian princesses, gold, and honrses, are documented. Royal and courtly lifestyles, including palaces, villas, fuenishing, and fashions, are described, as well as major monuments, military activity, and weaponry. Download or read book The Gold of Honour in New Kingdom Egypt written by Susanne Binder and published by Australian Centre for Egyptology. This book was released on 2008 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "Gold of Honour" is a prestigious reward, mainly in the form of gold collars, which ancient Egyptian officials received from their king. The study analyses the archaeological, iconographic and inscriptional evidence for the reward in the New Kingdom. It explores the reasons why the officials were honoured and how the kings distributed their favours. The Gold of Honour emerges as a status symbol of king-centred, as opposed to role-based, ranking in society.
Book Synopsis The Cambridge Ancient History by : I. E. S. Edwards
Download or read book The Cambridge Ancient History written by I. E. S. Edwards and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1971 with total page 1102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part II of volume I deals with the history of the Near East from about 3000 to 1750 B.C. In Egypt, a long period of political unification and stability enabled the kings of the Old Kingdom to develop and exploit natural resources, to mobilize both the manpower and the technical skill to build the pyramids, and to encourage sculptors in the production of works of superlative quality. After a period of anarchy and civil war at the end of the Sixth Dynasty the local rulers of Thebes established the so-called Middle Kingdom, restoring an age of political calm in which the arts could again flourish. In Western Asia, Babylonia was the main centre and source of civilisation, and her moral, though not always her military, hegemony was recognized and accepted by the surrounding countries of Anatolia, Syria, Palestine, Assyria and Elam. The history of the region is traced from the late Uruk and Jamdat Nasr periods up to the rise of Hammurabi, the most significant developments being the invention of writing in the Uruk period, the emergence of the Semites as a political factor under Sargon, and the success of the centralized bureaucracy under the Third Dynasty of Ur.
