Download or read book Gharmen written by Rafael Santy and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-10-19 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered where the stories about shamans come from? Is it possible they might be true? Gharmen is a book which answers some of these questions. You will realise that not everything we see and not all the people we meet, whom we regard as constants in our real world, have necessarily to be as we are used to thinking them. The action grabs you on the very first pages and does not let go of you. The shaman practices serve here as a method of connecting two worlds- legend and myth, and the world of reality. But you will start to wonder which is which. The key is now in your hand. If you opt for the tension and mysticism of this book, you will be rewarded not only by a tense, spellbinding read, but possibly a new outlook on your own life and the world in which we live. You will set forth on a trip with the central character from a country in the heart of Europe, via London, all the way to the rainforests of Orinoco and the Amazon. You will get acquainted with multi-dimensionals, for whom we are simply images in their understanding of the world. Follow how the revelation knowledge of the guardianess of the gate between worlds and the training of a shaman allows for the linkage of these worlds. Discover that not even on other levels is the relationship between man and woman simple. But more than anything else, enjoy yourself.

Book Synopsis Preserving the Spell by : Armando Maggi
Download or read book Preserving the Spell written by Armando Maggi and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fairy tales are supposed to be magical, surprising, and exhilarating, an enchanting counterpoint to everyday life that nonetheless helps us understand and deal with the anxieties of that life. Today, however, fairy tales are far from marvelous—in the hands of Hollywood, they have been stripped of their power, offering little but formulaic narratives and tame surprises. If we want to rediscover the power of fairy tales—as Armando Maggi thinks we should—we need to discover a new mythic lens, a new way of approaching and understanding, and thus re-creating, the transformative potential of these stories. In Preserving the Spell, Maggi argues that the first step is to understand the history of the various traditions of oral and written narrative that together created the fairy tales we know today. He begins his exploration with the ur-text of European fairy tales, Giambattista Basile’s The Tale of Tales, then traces its path through later Italian, French, English, and German traditions, with particular emphasis on the Grimm Brothers’ adaptations of the tales, which are included in the first-ever English translation in an appendix. Carrying his story into the twentieth century, Maggi mounts a powerful argument for freeing fairy tales from their bland contemporary forms, and reinvigorating our belief that we still can find new, powerfully transformative ways of telling these stories.
Book Synopsis The Secret Life of Insects by : Peter Milward
Download or read book The Secret Life of Insects written by Peter Milward and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on 2011-12-31 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every science, including the study of insects, may have circumscribed limits, but its deeper principles open up new worlds of possibility. Milward uncovers these hidden principles by examining the daily lives and habits of insects. His studies lead him to fascinating speculations, taking the reader into the realms not only of literature, as suggested by the subtitle, but also of philosophy and theology. When Milward discusses what everybody knows about insects and what he has personally observed, he relates insects to human life in general. His insights help us feel a certain fellowship with the insects, or at least with some of the more familiar insects. He does not let us forget that there is an important diff erence between human beings and insects. Human beings think. It is our ability to think that makes us what we are, but it is thinking that enables us to discover our affi nity with insects. The Secret Life of Insects does not probe into the hidden lives of insects or treat them as individuals. His main interest is the light insects may throw on our human experience, and the assistance they may lend us as we seek to transcend our human experience. Milward aims at the level of common knowledge. In contrast to entomological scientists, Milward finds shadowy glimpses of hidden meaning in the insect world. Th ese intimations or shadowy glimpses reveal thoughts and possibilities that will extend the human imagination. As a consequence, this work will inspire philosophers, as well as general readers interested in refl ecting on the profundity of ordinary life.
