Download or read book The Blue Moth of Morning written by P. C. Vandall and published by The Porcupine's Quill. This book was released on 2020-05-01 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Full of wit and wordplay, P.C. Vandall’s The Blue Moth of Morning reveals the anarchy that often reigns behind an outward illusion of female self-control. These poems remind us that love is not blushing brides, rosy-red cheeks and ruby lips; that idols can tire of being hailed like cabs, evoked in the night and preyed upon by sinners; that pants can sing a woman’s shame; and that even salmon know when it’s a good time to run. By turns appreciative and deprecatory of the sundry facets of life, Vandall writes as someone who recognizes that marriage can be a frying pan you swing at your spouse—and that you can miss the mark but still make a point.

Tam, sensible daughter of a well-respected doctor, had no idea before she arrived in Caithenor that she is a Seer, gifted with visions. When the two run into each other (quite literally) in the library, sparks fly and Corin impulsively asks Tam to dinner. But it’s not all happily ever after. Never mind that the prince isn’t allowed to marry a commoner: war is coming. Book Synopsis The Moth Snowstorm by : Michael McCarthy
Download or read book The Moth Snowstorm written by Michael McCarthy and published by New York Review of Books. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The moth snowstorm, a phenomenon Michael McCarthy remembers from his boyhood when moths “would pack a car’s headlight beams like snowflakes in a blizzard,” is a distant memory. Wildlife is being lost, not only in the wholesale extinctions of species but also in the dwindling of those species that still exist. The Moth Snowstorm is unlike any other book about climate change today; combining the personal with the polemical, it is a manifesto rooted in experience, a poignant memoir of the author’s first love: nature. McCarthy traces his adoration of the natural world to when he was seven, when the discovery of butterflies and birds brought sudden joy to a boy whose mother had just been hospitalized and whose family life was deteriorating. He goes on to record in painful detail the rapid dissolution of nature’s abundance in the intervening decades, and he proposes a radical solution to our current problem: that we each recognize in ourselves the capacity to love the natural world. Arguing that neither sustainable development nor ecosystem services have provided adequate defense against pollution, habitat destruction, species degradation, and climate change, McCarthy asks us to consider nature as an intrinsic good and an emotional and spiritual resource, capable of inspiring joy, wonder, and even love. An award-winning environmental journalist, McCarthy presents a clear, well-documented picture of what he calls “the great thinning” around the world, while interweaving the story of his own early discovery of the wilderness and a childhood saved by nature. Drawing on the truths of poets, the studies of scientists, and the author’s long experience in the field, The Moth Snowstorm is part elegy, part ode, and part argument, resulting in a passionate call to action.

Book Synopsis Middleton Corner by : Wallace D. Campbell
Download or read book Middleton Corner written by Wallace D. Campbell and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2007-04-30 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Middleton Corner is a non-descript crossroads on Ohio U.S. 68 south of Xenia and north of Wilmington. Even the crossroads is a bit unorthodox because Spring Valley Paintersville Road intersects U.S. 68 and then jogs a short distance on U.S. 68 before continuing its meandering path between Spring Valley and Paintersville. I am not sure why there is a highway sign posted or why it is listed on the Ohio map, but it is. At first glance it would appear that there is nothing special about Middleton Corner. There are a thousand such little hamlets throughout the United States. This little book is a salute to Middleton Corner and all the other small settlements out there. The point is that there is beauty and excitement everywhere. Sometimes you just have to slow down and take the time to see the beauty and the adventure that surrounds us all the time. It is a lot like the Field of Dreams. You build it and they will come. In the case of Middleton Corner all you have to do is look for the excitement, the grandeur, and the beauty in the simple things and it will be revealed to you. The author, through a series of one-page vignettes and photos has captured the essence of seeing God in all of creation, even at a place like Middleton Corner.
