Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Bible Versus the Evolution Theory Take the next feature of the Lord's revelation to Daniel respecting the present time: Knowledge shall be increase I hold, in harmony with this Scriptural statement, that the present wonderful increase of knowledge is not the result of Evolution, but the result of divine interposition at the present time: that it is one of the features of this Day of His Preparation - making ready for the Millennial Kingdom. If the theory of Evolution were correct, this increase of knowledge should have been gradual, during the past, and not sudden, now, toward the close of six thousand years of man's history - within the present century, and particularly within the past fifty years. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Evolution Explained and Compared With the Bible The Adversaries of the Doctrine of Evolution frequently say, that it has not been scientifically verified, and therefore, ought not to be accepted. Like the adversaries of the Bible, they demand evidence, which in the nature of the case cannot now be produced, and reject the light of such evidence as we do possess. But no man can do this and be truly honest. The jury box, and on their oath, is not the only place where upright men are called upon to decide their minds by the weight of evidence. The whole evidence before our minds at this hour is divided into two classes. There is first, a limited amount of evidence which can be shown to harmonise both with the "special creation" doctrine, and with the doctrine of Evolution, and which therefore proves neither. And there is secondly, a larger amount of evidence, impossible to reconcile with the special creation hypothesis, but which supports entirely the Doctrine of Evolution. This, I contend, amounts to a legitimate proof of Evolution, and proves conclusively that the special creation hypothesis is untenable. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even non-Christian scientists are attacking the traditional evolutionary theory still taught in many schools as fact. In 'Creation and Evolution' British physicist Dr. Alan Hayward draws evidence solely from these non-Christian researchers to discredit gradual evolution and Darwin's mechanism of natural selection. Hayward also examines in detail young earth theories, flood geology, and geological testimony to an ancient earth. In the end he suggests a surprising interpretation of Genesis that argues for both a historical Adam and creation over eons of time. Bowing neither to theistic evolution nor scientific creationism, Hayward writes from the perspective of a Christian physicist committed both to a high view of Scripture and to rigorous honesty with scientific data.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The claim that evolution undermines Christianity is standard fare in our culture. Indeed, many today have the impression that the two are mutually exclusive and that a choice must be made between faith and reason—rejecting Christianity on the one hand or evolutionary theory on the other. Is there a way to square advances in this field of study with the Bible and Church teaching? In this book—his fourth dedicated to applying Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s wisdom to pressing theological difficulties—Matthew Ramage answers this question decidedly in the affirmative. Distinguishing between evolutionary theory properly speaking and the materialist attitude that is often conflated with it, Ramage’s work meets the challenge of evolutionary science to Catholic teaching on human origins, guided by Ratzinger’s conviction that faith and evolutionary theory mutually enrich one another. Pope Benedict gifted the Church with many pivotal yet often-overlooked resources for engaging evolution in the light of faith, especially in those instances where he addressed the topic in connection with the Book of Genesis. Ramage highlights these contributions and also makes his own by applying Ratzinger’s principles to such issues as the meaning of man’s special creation, the relationship between sin and death, and the implications of evolution for eschatology. Notably, Ramage shows that many apparent conflicts between Christianity and evolutionary theory lose their force when we interpret creation in light of the Paschal Mystery and fix our gaze on Jesus, the New Adam who reveals man to himself. Readers of this text will find that it does more than merely help to resolve apparent contradictions between faith and modern science. Ramage’s work shows that discoveries in evolutionary biology are not merely difficulties to be overcome but indeed gifts that yield precious insight into the mystery of God’s saving plan in Christ.

Book excerpt: Truths and Untruths of Evolution written by John Benjamin Drury is an interesting look at the science and theory of evolution through a religious lens. The book features several lectures that were originally delivered before the students of the Theological Seminary in New Brunswick and at Rutgers College. Each lecture tackles the subject of evolution and is a masterful attempt to dissect the truth of evolution from the myriad of false theories (as Drury sees them). Running as a central theme throughout the lectures, Drury's main argument concerns the co-existence of the theory of Evolution and religious belief. In particular, Drury highlights the misconception of mutual exclusion between the two and argues that, "In the discussion I have sought to be just and fair to science as well as to religion. As the reader will see, instead of combating Evolution as altogether inadmissible, I concede a possibility of its truthfulness, and aim to show that a believer in God and a Revelation has nothing to fear from it as a foe to religion, when its postulates are freed from assumptions, and its truths are separated from its untruths." John Benjamin Drury's book Truths and Untruths of Evolution is an intriguing read for individuals exploring evolution theory and science through the eyes of religion. Can the two co-exist? For Drury they can and he hopes to prove that to any reader who picks up this text. This book is definitely an exciting read for scholars of religion, science, and those with only a passing interest in either topic. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, Henry Morris has been known as a defender of the Christian faith. It's an auspicious title for such a humble man, yet no one can deny that the grasp Morris has on science and faith issues is staggering. In this updated classic, Morris walks the reader through history "real history" by showing the absurdity of evolution. From a wide variety of sciences, including astronomy, biology, chemistry, physics, and geology, Morris presents clear evidence that the Bible gives us an astonishingly accurate record of the past, present, and future.
