Book Synopsis Stop Asking Jesus Into Your Heart by : J.D. Greear
Download or read book Stop Asking Jesus Into Your Heart written by J.D. Greear and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “If there were a Guinness Book of World Records entry for ‘amount of times having prayed the sinner’s prayer,’ I’m pretty sure I’d be a top contender,” says pastor and author J. D. Greear. He struggled for many years to gain an assurance of salvation and eventually learned he was not alone. “Lack of assurance” is epidemic among evangelical Christians. In Stop Asking Jesus Into Your Heart, J. D. shows that faulty ways of present- ing the gospel are a leading source of the confusion. Our presentations may not be heretical, but they are sometimes misleading. The idea of “asking Jesus into your heart” or “giving your life to Jesus” often gives false assurance to those who are not saved—and keeps those who genuinely are saved from fully embracing that reality. Greear unpacks the doctrine of assurance, showing that salvation is a posture we take to the promise of God in Christ, a posture that begins at a certain point and is maintained for the rest of our lives. He also answers the tough questions about assurance: What exactly is faith? What is repentance? Why are there so many warnings that seem to imply we can lose our salvation? Such issues are handled with respect to the theological rigors they require, but Greear never loses his pastoral sensitivity or a communication technique that makes this message teachable to a wide audience from teens to adults.

Book Synopsis The Next Medo-Persian Empire by : W. Richard Viall
Download or read book The Next Medo-Persian Empire written by W. Richard Viall and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-02-25 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a military police officer forty-four years ago, author W. Richard Viall made a traffic stop of an evangelical Christian woman. The interaction with her serendipitously raised his curiosity about the end times, and throughout his thirty-seven-year career in law enforcement, he maintained his curiosity regarding the subject. Ultimately, Richard learned many mainstream Christians regard the fictional account of end times in the Left Behind series of books as fact. He truly wishes the initial rapture would be as easy as the books make it out to be. But he sees nothing in the Bible to indicate that. Based on logic and allegorical and literal interpretation, The Next Medo-Persian Empire presents Richard’s deductions on the prophecy. He discusses what will happen in the time leading up to the rapture and during the last seven years after. It explains the signs leading to the end and how the next Medo-Persian Empire will be one of those signs.
Book Synopsis The Sound of Salvation by : Guangtian Ha
Download or read book The Sound of Salvation written by Guangtian Ha and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2022-02-22 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner, 2023 Clifford Geertz Prize in Anthropology of Religion, Society for the Anthropology of Religion The Jahriyya Sufis—a primarily Sinophone order of Naqshbandiyya Sufism in northwestern China—inhabit a unique religious soundscape. The hallmark of their spiritual practice is the “loud” (jahr) remembrance of God in liturgical rituals featuring distinctive melodic vocal chants. The first ethnography of this order in any language, The Sound of Salvation draws on nearly a decade of fieldwork to reveal the intricacies and importance of Jahriyya vocal recitation. Guangtian Ha examines how the use of voice in liturgy helps the Jahriyya to sustain their faith and the ways it has enabled them to endure political persecution over the past two and a half centuries. He situates the Jahriyya in a global multilingual network of Sufis and shows how their characteristic soundscapes result from transcultural interactions among Middle Eastern, Central Asian, and Chinese Muslim communities. Ha argues that the resilience of Jahriyya Sufism stems from the diversity and multiplicity of liturgical practice, which he shows to be rooted in notions of Sufi sainthood. He considers the movement of Jahriyya vocal recitation to new media forms and foregrounds the gendered opposition of male voices and female silence that structures the group’s rituals. Spanning diverse disciplines—including anthropology, ethnomusicology, Islamic studies, sound studies, and media studies—and using Arabic, Persian, and Chinese sources, The Sound of Salvation offers new perspectives on the importance of sound to religious practice, the role of gender in Chinese Islam, and the links connecting Chinese Muslims to the broader Islamic world.

Book Synopsis You Are Not Going to Heaven (and why it doesn't matter) by : Wes Bergen
Download or read book You Are Not Going to Heaven (and why it doesn't matter) written by Wes Bergen and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-07-08 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Honesty. Humility. The purpose and future of the church. Useful and not useful parts of the Bible. A doctrine of salvation that includes mosquitoes. These are some of the topics dealt with in this controversial book. Written for those who still have hope for the church as well as those who don't, Wes Bergen's aim is to cast a vision of the church beyond divine fire insurance. Bergen's contention is that salvation is something that either happens here and now, on this earth, or not at all. Salvation is something that happens to bodies. More importantly, salvation is something that either will happen on this earth or we risk making the world uninhabitable by human beings. Souls are irrelevant when the air is dirty, the water is undrinkable, and there isn't enough to eat. These are the things that the Bible really cares about and form the building blocks for the salvation that God offers. This is also why this book is not about heaven. The Bible is not a manual for getting to heaven. The Bible cares very little about heaven and neither should you. Salvation is about what happens to bodies on Tuesday rather than what we do Sunday morning or what happens to souls after the body dies. Forget about heaven. Either you trust in God or you don't. Now get to work helping salvation happen.

Book Synopsis The Language of Color in the First Goetheanum by : Hilde Raske
Download or read book The Language of Color in the First Goetheanum written by Hilde Raske and published by Rudolf Steiner Press. This book was released on 2023-05-25 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rudolf Steiner’s architectural masterpiece, the double-domed building known as the first Goetheanum, featured decorated ceilings that were designed and partly painted by Steiner himself, utilizing vegetable colors and a new layering technique. Steiner emphasized that he was seeking a new artistic conception based on a conscious understanding of the nature of color. Contemporaries report the extraordinary effect of the domed ceilings’ paintings combined with the multicolored light emanating from the engraved glass windows. The cupolas depicted the creation and ages of the world, the initiators of the various cultural epochs and the figure of Christ. Tragically, the ‘complete work of art’ that was the first Goetheanum burned down on New Year’s Eve 1922 – so today we can only get an impression of the lost paintings and windows from Rudolf Steiner’s pastel sketches and drawings and a handful of photographs. In this lavish volume, the result of decades of research and study, Hilde Raske provides a detailed examination of the artistic work on the two cupolas, including Rudolf Steiner’s draft sketches and his written and verbal statements. Featuring 30 color and more than 100 black-and-white illustrations, this printing is a high-quality facsimile of the long out-of-print original edition from 1983.

Book Synopsis The Early Judaeo-Persian Tafsīrs of Ezekiel by : Thamar E. Gindin
Download or read book The Early Judaeo-Persian Tafsīrs of Ezekiel written by Thamar E. Gindin and published by Austrian Academy of Sciences Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tafsir of Ezekiel is the largest and most renowned Early Judaeo Persian text. It holds 226 pages of translation and commentary on Ezekiel 1:21-39:29. The Tafsir was written - probably in the late 10th or early 11th century CE - in two different coeval dialects of Early Judaeo-Persian. Only three fragments remain of the Small Tafsir of Ezekiel, a more succinct commentary, without translation, on select verses. The Tafsir and the Small Tafsir of Ezekiel illuminate a long-lost tradition of Mediaeval Iranian Bible commentary, which has yet to be investigated. They also shed light on certain aspects of the history of the Persian language that illustrate the nonlinearity of language evolution. The lexical facets of the corpus are invaluable to the study of Middle and New Persian on one hand, and fusion languages - particularly Jewish languages - on the other hand. Volume I of the publication consists of the text of the both tafs+rs of Ezekiel. Volume II contains the translations of these texts into English, and Volume III describes the linguistic peculiarities of this heterogeneous corpus, demonstrate their significance to Persian and Jewish linguistics, and supply a glossary for the texts.
Download or read book A Persian Odyssey written by Rami Yelda and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012-07-18 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every good traveler plans his or her itinerary carefully to use time well and benefit as much as possible from the trip. I did not have an agenda, however. I wanted to travel Middle Eastern style, that is, with no prior planning. It would have been a nuisance to stick to a set timetable in a country that was, except for the language, entirely alien to me. I had decided to spend five weeks in Iran and had certain ideas as to what and whom I wanted to see, but my choices had to be la carte one bite at a time. I wanted to feel the pulse of the country by meeting and talking to as many people as possible. I knew that as a man traveling alone in a Moslem country I faced certain limitations. My quest had to be limited to interacting with men, with little exposure to women and their concerns.

Book Synopsis Dimensions of Yahwism in the Persian Period by : Gard Granerød
Download or read book Dimensions of Yahwism in the Persian Period written by Gard Granerød and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2016-07-25 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What was Judaean religion in the Persian period like? Is it necessary to use the Bible to give an answer to the question? Among other things the study argues that • the religion practiced in the 5th c. BCE Elephantine community and which is reflected in the so-called Elephantine documents represent a well-attested manifestation of lived Persian period Yahwism, • as religio-historical sources, the Elephantine documents reveal more about the actual religious practice of the Elephantine Judaeans than what the highly edited and canonised texts of the Bible reveal about the religious practice of the contemporary Yahwistic coreligionists in Judah, and • the image of the Elephantine Judaism emerging from the Elephantine documents can revise the canonised image of Judaean religion in the Persian period (cf. A. Assmann). The Elephantine Yahwism should not be interpreted within a framework dependent upon theological, conceptual and spatial concepts alien to it, such as biblical ones. The study proposes an alternative framework by approaching the Elephantine documents on the basis of N. Smart’s multidimensional model of religion. Elephantine should not be exotified but brought to the very centre of any discussion of the history of Judaism.
