Book excerpt: BARBARIK The Illustrated Story of 'Khatu Shyam' The main idea of religious scripture is to showcase the theme of morality and justice, i.e. 'what is right' and 'what is wrong' With this theme, only the epic story of Mahabharat was written. But apart from morality and justice, there are many other life lessons that an ancient epic teaches us to develop ourselves fully as a human being. The war The story of Mahabharat started with the story of Kuru clan and ultimately their descendent divided into two groups. There were two cousin brothers group; one was Kauravs (with hundred brothers) and Pandavs (with five brothers). The Kauravs were cruel and greedy in nature and always wanted to harm their five cousin brothers. Ultimately their enmity resulted into a massive war. That was the greatest war in human history ever recorded before. That war saw many great warriors, who participated from different corners of the globe. But among those great warriors, everybody did not have equal strength. There were warriors whose strength was unparallel. But who was that person, who was the greatest among all those warriors? There was a noble-hearted man who had such strength, that with his ability he could finish the Great War within just one moment and even he could finish this entire earth even. The central idea behind the story revolves that how a simple human being, with his dedication, could able to transform himself and gather unparallel strength. We everybody has the same body and mind, but few could achieve their desired goals in their life and others could not. If one has same body and mind, then why does it happen? 'Not because of body or mind, it is solely because of one's inner ability by which one becomes successful in life. If you think positive and try to reflect that positivity in your work, you will achieve everything.' Everybody has the power within him to become God. Only one has to know that correct direction and his goal must be very clear to become great. 'Barbarik' is the biggest example. How he has gathered such strength and how he became such powerful, we will discover in this book. 'You could win, if you desire to win' You could read this book completely and understand the main idea if you desire to do so.

Book excerpt: Over a hundred years after the Mahabharata War, an ancient power threatens to destroy the new Age of Men, by establishing the Age of Terror of the asuras, long believed to be extinct. The only hurdle in its path is Guru Dronacharya’s son, the mighty but accursed warrior Ashwatthama, who lost all his powers following Lord Krishna’s curse, and who unwittingly finds himself drawn into the quest of the lost bow of Lord Rama—the Kodanda. As ghosts of the distant past return to haunt him, and the line between friends and enemies blurs, Ashwatthama must fight his inner demons to emerge victorious. He undertakes a perilous journey—across the vast plains of the Ganges, to the snow-capped peaks of the Himavant—where the price of failure is a fate worse than death, and death is a privilege not granted to Ashwatthama. Is this all part of Lord Krishna’s great plan? Will Ashwatthama be able to regain his lost glory?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'I am a Christian' is the confession of the martyrs of early Christian texts and, no doubt, of many others; but what did this confession mean, and how was early Christian identity constructed? This innovative study sets the emergence of Christian identity in the first two centuries, as it is constructed by the broad range of surviving literature, within the wider context of Jewish and Graeco-Roman identity. It uses a number of models from contemporary constructionist views of identity formation to explore how what comes to be seen as 'Christian' literature creates a sense of what to be 'a Christian' means, and traces both continuities and discontinuities with the ways in which Jewish and Graeco-Roman identity were also being constructed through their texts. It seeks to acknowledge the centrality of texts in shaping early Christianity, historically as well as in our perception of it, while also exploring how we might move from those texts to the individuals and communities who preserved them. Such an approach challenges more traditional emphases on the development of institutions, whether structures or credal and ethical formulations, which often fail to recognize the rhetorical function of the texts on which they draw, and the uncertainties of how well these reflect the actual practice and experience of individuals and communities. While building on recent recognition of the diversity of early Christianity, the book goes on to explore the question whether it is possible to speak of a distinctive Christian identity across both the range of early texts and as a pressing historical and theological question in the contemporary world.

Book excerpt: Throughout India and Southeast Asia, ancient classical epics—the Mahabharata and the Ramayana—continue to exert considerable cultural influence. Rethinking India's Oral and Classical Epics offers an unprecedented exploration into South Asia's regional epic traditions. Using his own fieldwork as a starting point, Alf Hiltebeitel analyzes how the oral tradition of the south Indian cult of the goddess Draupadi and five regional martial oral epics compare with one another and tie in with the Sanskrit epics. Drawing on literary theory and cultural studies, he reveals the shared subtexts of the Draupadi cult Mahabharata and the five oral epics, and shows how the traditional plots are twisted and classical characters reshaped to reflect local history and religion. In doing so, Hiltebeitel sheds new light on the intertwining oral traditions of medieval Rajput military culture, Dalits ("former Untouchables"), and Muslims. Breathtaking in scope, this work is indispensable for those seeking a deeper understanding of South Asia's Hindu and Muslim traditions. This work is the third volume in Hiltebeitel's study of the Draupadi cult. Other volumes include Mythologies: From Gingee to Kuruksetra (Volume One), On Hindu Ritual and the Goddess (Volume Two), and Rethinking the Mahabharata (Volume Four).

Book excerpt: Our life is dominated by hardware: a USB stick, the processor in our laptops or the SIM card in our smart phone. But who or what makes sure that these systems work stably, safely and securely from the word go? The computer - with a little help from humans. The overall name for this is CAD (computer-aided design), and it’s become hard to imagine our modern industrial world without it. So how can we be sure that the hardware and computer systems we use are reliable? By using formal methods: these are techniques and tools to calculate whether a system description is in itself consistent or whether requirements have been developed and implemented correctly. Or to put it another way: they can be used to check the safety and security of hardware and software. Just how this works in real life was also of interest at the annual conference on "Formal Methods in Computer-Aided Design (FMCAD)". Under the direction of Ruzica Piskac and Michael Whalen, the 21st Conference in October 2021 addressed the results of the latest research in the field of formal methods. A volume of conference proceedings with over 30 articles covering a wide range of formal methods has now been published for this online conference: starting from the verification of hardware, parallel and distributed systems as well as neuronal networks, right through to machine learning and decision-making procedures. This volume provides a fascinating insight into revolutionary methods, technologies, theoretical results and tools for formal logic in computer systems and system developments.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dhobis of Delhi: An Urban Ethnography from the Margins, 1974–2023 is a saga covering more than four decades of interactions with an 'untouchable' caste--the Dhobis (washermen and washerwomen), who are among Delhi's oldest inhabitants. It describes their ways of life, economy, livelihood, struggles, and adaptation to the city's changing demographic, cultural, and politico-economic profile. Utilizing an experiential perspective and a gendered and feminist approach, the author elaborates on the Dhobi identity, which is focused on their community (biradari), and discusses their struggles to be identified as skilled professionals at par with others, rejecting at the same time the political identity of being Dalit. Discarding their earlier subjugated sense of the self, the Dhobis are developing an emerging consciousness as democratic citizens, nurturing ambitions of a future where they will find acceptance as a community. To that end, the book also analyses how their marginalized caste-based occupation and skills ensure for them a livelihood and viability within the market economy. Highlighting the community's strategies and tactics of survival and resilience against all odds, Dhobis of Delhi is thus the story of a city viewed through the eyes of those who live on the lowest rung of its social hierarchy but whose contribution to the life of the city is essential, albeit invisible.
