The publication of the yearbook did not become annual until 1887, as such there are no yearbooks for 1885 or 1886. The only other interruption in yearbooks was for the years 1973 and 1974. There are still yearbooks from these years, but they were published by the Wisconsin Alumni Association rather than the student body, as such they are spare, consisting mostly of portraits of students. UW Archives currently holds at least one copy of every published volume. The 1st copy of each volume is held onsite at UW Archives while the second and third copies, where they exist, are held offsite.

Book Synopsis Japanese Fairy Tales by : Yei Theodora Ozaki
Download or read book Japanese Fairy Tales written by Yei Theodora Ozaki and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of Japanese fairy tales is the outcome of a suggestion made to me indirectly through a friend by Mr. Andrew Lang. They have been translated from the modern version written by Sadanami Sanjin. These stories are not literal translations, and though the Japanese story and all quaint Japanese expressions have been faithfully preserved, they have been told more with the view to interest young readers of the West than the technical student of folk-lore.... In telling these stories in English I have followed my fancy in adding such touches of local color or description as they seemed to need or as pleased me, and in one or two instances I have gathered in an incident from another version. At all times, among my friends, both young and old, English or American, I have always found eager listeners to the beautiful legends and fairy tales of Japan, and in telling them I have also found that they were still unknown to the vast majority...

Book excerpt: Today's #1 New York Times bestselling thriller writers agree: Ryan Brown's compulsively readable first novel is unbeatable-a darkly humorous, rich and pungent zombie shocker that melds our national obsession with football and the newest wave of fascination with the undead. For the first time in Killington High School history, the Jackrabbits football team is one win away from the district championship where it will face its most vicious rival, the Elmwood Heights Badgers. On the way to the game, the Jackrabbits's bus plunges into a river, killing every player except for bad-boy quarterback Cole Logan who is certain the crash was no accident-given that Cole himself was severely injured in a brutal attack by three ski-masked men earlier that day. Bent on payback, Cole turns to a mysterious fan skilled in black magic to resurrect his teammates. But unless the undead Jackrabbits defeat their murderous rival on the field, the team is destined for hell. In a desperate race against time, with only his coach's clever daughter, Savannah Hickman, to assist him, Cole must lead his zombie team to victory . . . in a final showdown where the stakes aren't just life or death-but damnation or salvation. Boundlessly imaginative and thrillingly satisfying, Play Dead gives small-town Texas an electrifying jolt of the supernatural, and is unquestioningly The Zombie Novel of the Year!

Book Synopsis Wisconsin where They Row by : Bradley F. Taylor
Download or read book Wisconsin where They Row written by Bradley F. Taylor and published by Univ of Wisconsin Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wisconsin Where They Row is the definitive history of rowing at the University of Wisconsin. Although this oldest of intercollegiate sports had its American beginnings in 1852 as a contest among Ivy League men, it would soon have to make room for the stubborn steadfastness of Wisconsin's athletes. Author Brad Taylor captures the unique character of Wisconsin crew and its athletes in this meticulously researched and abundantly illustrated book. Taylor recounts rowing's beginnings as the first UW intramural sport in 1874, the long and rich history of the men's crew, the establishment of the women's team in 1972, and the presence of Wisconsin rowers on every U.S. Olympic rowing squad from 1968 through 2004. Taylor tells of the UW men's victory in 1892 at Oconomowoc against the "Chicago Navy," their first competition against an outside club; the story of the famed Berry-Crate Crew; and the Badger crews' participation in the early intercollegiate regattas on the Hudson River. Taylor depicts how boats were shipped east by train; how one coach sacrificed most of his salary during the threadbare 1930s to keep the sport alive; and how thousands of spectators watched races from railroad flatcars and yachts. Taylor spent four years interviewing key figures, visiting race venues, and delving into the archives of college libraries, historical societies, and newspapers. The result is not only this book, but also a trove of information, rowing memorabilia, and some two thousand images of Wisconsin crew history that Taylor will donate to the University of Wisconsin archives and the new crew boathouse. Wisconsin Where They Row documents in detail an exciting story important to sports history, to Wisconsin's heritage, and to alums and fans of the Badger crew teams. It will appeal to anyone who thrills at the sight of oars flashing and shells skimming across blue water.
