Religious Celebrations is an alphabetically organized encyclopedia that covers more than 800 celebratory occasions from all of the world's major religious communities as well as many of the minor faith traditions. The encyclopedia provides a complete reference tool for examining the myriad ways people worldwide celebrate their religious lives across religious boundaries, providing information on numerous celebratory activities never before covered in a reference work. Offering the most comprehensive coverage of religious holidays ever assembled, this two-volume book covers festivals, commemorations, holidays, and annual religious gatherings all over the world, with special attention paid to the celebrations in larger countries. Entries written by distinguished researchers and specialists on different religious communities capture the unique intensity of each event, be it fasting or feasting, frenzied activity or the universal cessation of work, a huge gathering of the faithful en masse or a small family-centered event. Each chapter highlights a specific religion or spiritual tradition with a brief discussion about major beliefs, misconceptions, sacred texts, and holy days or celebrations. This summary of each tradition is followed by extensive annotated recommendations for children’s and adolescent literature as well as suggested teaching strategies. The recommended literature includes informational books, traditional religious stories, and fiction with religious themes. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I put this story line together with a Middle Eastern background. It is where I created and shared this story with many Iraqi children. Islam has angels too and I do believe that with all of the hatred that is in this world, children should never be a part of it! Children of all ages can enjoy this book, from Kindergarten to the 6th grade This story explains diversity. I have always used it as a tool to explain how wrong it is to hate other people because of how they pray or worship. Questions can be asked throughout the entire story of how wrong it is to mistreat others because of the color of their skin, where they are from. Being mean to another because they are hungry or hurt. I did make reference to bullying which a teacher can stop and ask the important question of being mean for no reason. The story explains what can happen to people who do not tell the truth.

Book Synopsis Bedouin Poets of the Nafūd Desert by : Khalaf Abū Zwayyid
Download or read book Bedouin Poets of the Nafūd Desert written by Khalaf Abū Zwayyid and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2024-04-09 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of poems from a changing Bedouin world Bedouin Poets of the Nafūd Desert features poetry from three poets of the Ibn Rashīd dynasty–the highwater mark of Bedouin culture in the nineteenth century. Khalaf Abū Zwayyid, ʿAdwān al-Hirbīd, and ʿAjlān ibn Rmāl belonged to tribes based around the area of Jabal Shammar in northern Arabia. A cultural and political center for the region, Jabal Shammar attracted caravans of traders and pilgrims, tribal shaykhs, European travelers (including T.E. Lawrence), illiterate Bedouin poets, and learned Arabs. All three poets lived at the inception of or during modernity’s accelerating encroachment. New inventions and firearms spread throughout the region, and these poets captured Bedouin life in changing times. Their poems and the accompanying narratives showcase the beauty and complexity of Bedouin culture, while also grappling with the upheaval brought about by the rise of the House of Saud and Wahhabism. The poems featured in Bedouin Poets of the Nafūd Desert are often humorous and witty, yet also sentimental, wistful, and romantic. They vividly describe journeys on camelback, stories of family and marriage, thrilling raids, and beautiful nature scenes, offering a window into Bedouin culture and society in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
