Ignatius was raised by the wife of a blacksmith, eventually becoming a knight. After being injured in battle he was inspired by stories of saints to dedicate himself to his religion and eventually became an influential religious figure. He is famous for his Spiritual Exercises, which aim to bring the practitioner closer to the divine through four "weeks" of work, but perhaps more so for founding the Jesuit order. These are not the topics of the autobiography however, as ever humble Ignatius is more concerned with examining his own spiritual (rather than material) battles and conversion.
