Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Arizona Mining Company, Its Mines, Property and Organization Organized under the Incorporation Law of the State of New York. Its capital is divided into 30,000 shares of $100 each. Its business is the mining of silver and other ores, and the production of bullion in the New Territory of Arizona. The headquarters of the company are at the town of Tubac, near the overland mail route to California, by way of E1 Paso and San Diego, and accessible by a good waggon route of 157 miles in length, to the Gulf of California, at the Ports of Lobos and Libertad. The property of the company consists of a celebrated ranche, known as Arivaca or Aribac, comprising seventeen thousand acres, on which are found numerous veins of gold and silver, and it abounds in pasturage, tillable land, timber and never-failing water. This property was famous in the days of Jesuit missions. They own also the mines of the Cerro Colorado Mountains, including the famous Heintzelman mine, named in honor of Major General Heintzelman, U. S. A. who superintended and cordially aided its early development. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Wilson's Mining Laws: United States, Arizona, California, Nevada and Utah; Annotated, With Forms and Corporation Laws of Arizona; Revised to July 1, 1909 All mineral lands are open to occupation and purchase by any citizen, or he who has declared his intention to become a citizen of the United States. A mining claim located since May 10, 1872, shall not exceed fifteen hundred feet in length along the vein or lode and three hundred feet on each side of the middle of the vein at the surface. No lode claim can be recorded until a vein or lode has been discovered thereon. Where two claims cross each other the prior location is entitled to all the ore or mineral within the space of intersection, but the subsequent location has a right of way through the space of intersection for the working of the mine, and where two or more veins unite the oldest location takes the vein below the point of union, including all the space of intersection. A Patent can be obtained on a mining claim after $500 has been expended thereon for development or improvement, upon its being surveyed by a United States mineral surveyor, and by the payment of $5 per acre for the land to the United States Government. To Hold An Unpatented Mining Claim, not less than $100 worth of labor shall be performed or improvements made thereon each year, subject to the local laws of the State or rules of the mining district. Where several claims are held in common and are contiguous, the whole expenditure may be made on any one claim. The period within which this work is required to be done begins on the first day of January of the year succeeding the year of location. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This impressive volume on Arizona mining covers many historical aspects from mines to minerals to transportation and extraction methods. Thousands of miles of railroads were built in Arizona to sustain mining operations that formed the crux of the territory's and later the state's economy. Hundreds of towns in Arizona owed their longevity or in many cases their ephemeral existence based upon the productivity of the local mines. Extensive mapping of the territory was undertaken, not specifically for settlement but for mineral discoveries and for ensuring the ease of extraction from the ground to the market. Mining captivated the Native Americans, Spanish, Mexicans and later the great influx of American miners and pioneers who arrived in Arizona after the Gadsden Purchase of 1854. Since then, Arizona's economy and community has greatly benefited from mining enterprises resulting in heightened employment opportunities both mining related and supported along with an improved infrastructure of roads, railroads, bridges and dams, hospitals, schools, cultural and civic centers. Mining has also influenced state tourism and recreation as many of the forest service roads and highways were built for the purpose of connecting mines to refining facilities and on to market. Tourist destinations including the towns of Ajo, Bisbee, Jerome and Prescott, would not have their aesthetically appealing store fronts and town layout were it not for revenue generated from the local mining operations. Gem and mineral shows across the state including the annual Tucson Gem & Mineral Show and the Quartzite Show generate millions of dollars directly benefiting the hospitality industry and local and regional attractions. Over 250 mining related images appear in this volume to represent Arizona's place as one of the great mining centers and mineral producers in the world. This volume is a compilation of 105 articles published under the heading of "Mine Tales", a Monday column in the Arizona Daily Star. Broken down into three physiographic provinces, Arizona has a diverse mineral content that has enabled it to be at the forefront of the mining industry in the United States and the world. 9 x 12 inches, 160 pages.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Statement of the American Mining Company The Company has purchased, and holds a perfect title, in fee simple, to ten rich and extensive silver mines, or lodes, upon Griffith Mountain, Georgetown, Colorado. Upon each lode one or more shafts have been sunk to a sufficient depth to show that they are true fissure veins, and extend downwards to an indefinite depth; and that the deeper they are worked the richer and wider they become.
