Download or read book Learn Arabic written by Nizar Hajj Ahmad and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-12-27 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was designed to introduce Arabic Alphabet to learners of All ages. The book is in two parts: The Student's Book and the Activity Book. The Student's Book includes the basic lessons with supportive exercises and wordlists. The Activity Book includes the reading and writing activities which reinforce the material covered in the Student's Book. The objective of dividing this work into two books is to make it easier for learners, especially the young ones. To cover all alphabet items and provide sufficient and variant exercises is somehow unachievable within one book as it will become bulky; heavy to carry and handle. The work is divided in a way that it can be used easily and practically. The Student's Book can be used to learn how to read while acquiring new vocabulary items. The Activity Book is to practice writing and reinforce the vocabulary items through various quizzes and exercises. Every word in the book is illustrated with an image to link the visual memory (the identified) to the written form of the word (The identifier). Each chapter is entailed with a word list that includes all the words in the chapter. The words are presented in three aspects: - Arabic - English - Image Although the book is illustrated in a way that it looks like a children's book, it can be practically used by adult learners to learn the alphabet, how to read and build up their vocabulary. The book is originally aimed to introduce Arabic Alphabet to speakers of other languages. However, because it uses English as the main medium to introduce Arabic, the book can be used to increase the English vocabulary of Arab children who are using the book to learn Arabic. Therefore, the book can be used by primary schools in non-Arabic speaking countries or international schools in Arab countries to teach early years pupils. The Student's Book includes 8 chapters. Each of these chapters includes the following sections: 1. Letters and Words 2. Reading exercises 3. Wordlist with images The Activity Book includes relevant chapters to the lessons in the Student's Book. Each chapter includes: - Reading exercises - Quizzes - Colouring activities - Writing activities The parent or teacher can start with the Student's Book and move to the Activity Book whenever they think that the learner is ready to explore and do more exercises.

Download or read book Arabic Dialogues written by Rachel Mairs and published by UCL Press. This book was released on 2024-03-04 with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the nineteenth century and into the early twentieth century, more Europeans visited the Middle East than ever before, as tourists, archaeologists, pilgrims, settler-colonists and soldiers. These visitors engaged with the Arabic language to differing degrees. While some were serious scholars of Classical Arabic, in the Orientalist mould, many did not learn the language at all. Between these two extremes lies a neglected group of language learners who wanted to learn enough everyday colloquial Arabic to get by. The needs of these learners were met by popular language books, which boasted that they could provide an easy route to fluency in a difficult language. Arabic Dialogues explores the motivations of Arabic learners and effectiveness of instructional materials, principally in Egypt and Palestine, by analysing a corpus of Arabic phrasebooks published in nine languages (English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Yiddish, Hebrew, Russian) and in the territory of twenty-five modern countries. Beginning with Napoleon’s Expédition d’Égypte (1798–1801), it moves through the periods of mass tourism and European colonialism in the Middle East, concluding with the Second World War. The book also considers how Arab intellectuals understood the project of teaching Arabic to foreigners, the remarkable history of Arabic-learning among Yiddish- and Hebrew-speaking immigrants in Palestine, and the networks of language learners, teachers and plagiarists who produced these phrasebooks.
