Book Synopsis The Anxiety Opportunity by : Curtis Chang
Download or read book The Anxiety Opportunity written by Curtis Chang and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2023-05-16 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if instead of battling anxiety, you saw your worries as a doorway to spiritual transformation? Challenging the assumption that anxiety is the enemy, theologian, popular podcaster, and fellow sufferer of chronic anxiety Curtis Chang gives you a different framework for approaching fears. You will discover profound new ways of relating to Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and those you love. Curtis Chang knows what it's like to view anxiety as a sin to overcome. He also knows how trying to get rid of anxiety through sheer faith or willpower usually leads to feelings of shame and frustration. After losing his job as a pastor due to debilitating anxiety, Curtis began the process of healing his heart. Combining years of personal experience, spiritual practice, and biblical study, Curtis discovered an alternative approach--one that sees anxiety as the path to our best selves in Christ. For all of us who feel stuck in a never-ending war with worry, The Anxiety Opportunity offers: Biblical wisdom about how anxiety can lead to rich spiritual growth An invitation to examine our fears as a way of pursuing our calling Simple practices for converting nervous energy into fruitful energy Insights into why trying to avoid loss generates more anxiety A renewed sense of peace as we realize what God can do through our fears It's time to think differently about the relationship between anxiety and spiritual growth. This unique and profound exploration of one of the greatest epidemics of our time shows us how anxiety can be the very place we meet Jesus--and how channeling our anxiety can help us become more like him.

Download or read book Clock Out and Heal written by Gina Sanguinetti and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-12-05 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "We're doing everything possible," the doctor would say at times to the parents as he continued the resuscitation efforts on their little girl. Expect the unexpected when you are a medical professional or a first responder. We clock into work and treat those who are sick. We see all types of death at every age. Added to that stress is the ever-changing demands of those who make and enforce regulations that govern the way that we practice. We are in it to win it for our patients. For the past twenty seven years, I work as a respiratory therapist. I clock in, work my best, then clock out and try to bury and forget the stress from my work day. But you don't forget, the memories of trauma are rude, and they will emerge again when you least expect it. Inside are actual stories of births, deaths, COVID 19, and more, bringing awareness of what we see and do. Can we truly ever clock out and heal?

We live in an age of anxiety, and studies show that it’s only getting worse. Anxiety forces itself into our awareness and can deplete our energy, resources, and resolve. It screams “pay attention to me—or else.” We may confront it the moment we wake up in the morning, and it can even keep us from getting to sleep at night. In short, it can run our lives. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Building on the success of The Mindfulness and Acceptance Workbook for Anxiety, this quick reference guide offers fifty-two simple tools and strategies—one for each week of the year—based in proven-effective acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) to help you break free from worry, fear, and panic. In addition to “in-the-moment” tools for staying calm, you’ll learn about the underlying causes of your anxiety, why avoidance just doesn’t work, how to move past your negative inner voice, and how focusing on your values can help you move past anxiety and live a rich, meaningful life. If—like many people—you’re fed up with anxiety getting in the way of living your life, the powerful little exercises in this guide will show you how to break the cycle of anxiety for good. This book has been selected as an Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies Self-Help Book Recommendation—an honor bestowed on outstanding self-help books that are consistent with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) principles and that incorporate scientifically tested strategies for overcoming mental health difficulties. Book Synopsis A Year's Work Volume II by : Traumear
Download or read book A Year's Work Volume II written by Traumear and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-11-05 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author recommends these at times rather difficult essays to anyone who can no longer quite come to terms with the demands of his human nature in our present cultural environment. Their common theme might be described as the transition from modern interpretation to contemporary creation, in other words away from anxiety-based ideal constructs towards discoveries made during the search for true reality. The form is fluid, the content is thought-provoking. The notions put forward are not left in intellectual isolation but tried and tested by the author during his lifetime. In a way they present the culmination of his thought during the previous twenty years.
Book Synopsis Unwinding Anxiety by : Judson Brewer
Download or read book Unwinding Anxiety written by Judson Brewer and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2021-03-09 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller A step-by-step plan clinically proven to break the cycle of worry and fear that drives anxiety and addictive habits We are living through one of the most anxious periods any of us can remember. Whether facing issues as public as a pandemic or as personal as having kids at home and fighting the urge to reach for the wine bottle every night, we are feeling overwhelmed and out of control. But in this timely book, Judson Brewer explains how to uproot anxiety at its source using brain-based techniques and small hacks accessible to anyone. We think of anxiety as everything from mild unease to full-blown panic. But it's also what drives the addictive behaviors and bad habits we use to cope (e.g. stress eating, procrastination, doom scrolling and social media). Plus, anxiety lives in a part of the brain that resists rational thought. So we get stuck in anxiety habit loops that we can't think our way out of or use willpower to overcome. Dr. Brewer teaches us to map our brains to discover our triggers, defuse them with the simple but powerful practice of curiosity, and to train our brains using mindfulness and other practices that his lab has proven can work. Distilling more than 20 years of research and hands-on work with thousands of patients, including Olympic athletes and coaches, and leaders in government and business, Dr. Brewer has created a clear, solution-oriented program that anyone can use to feel better - no matter how anxious they feel.
Book Synopsis Journey into Philosophy by : Stan Baronett
Download or read book Journey into Philosophy written by Stan Baronett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-10-14 with total page 1012 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overriding rationale behind this book is a desire to enrich the lives of college students by introducing them to the practice of philosophical thought in an accessible and engaging manner. The text has over one hundred classical and contemporary readings that facilitate studying each philosophical issue from a variety of perspectives, giving instructors the opportunity to choose a set of readings that matches the individual needs of each class. It includes many selections by philosophers whose works are often ignored or underrepresented in other introductory texts. The initial reading, "The Role of Philosophy," is a relevant, clear, and absorbing introduction to the discipline of philosophy. It uses everyday life situations to give students a solid foothold before they journey into specific philosophical topics. In addition, every section of the book has its own special introduction that connects each topic to students’ personal lives. The surrounding narrative is designed to be conversational and comprehensible. Special features include a section on the role of logic, and writing a philosophy paper, two useful tools for approaching and analyzing philosophical writing for students who are new to philosophy. The book is accompanied by a companion website (www.routledge.com/cw/Baronett), with many helpful features, including (for students) review questions for all readings in the book, videos, and 66 related entries taken from the student-friendly Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy and (for instructors) 2,500 questions and answers."
Download or read book Beyond Price written by J. David Velleman and published by Open Book Publishers. This book was released on 2015-10-08 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In nine lively essays, bioethicist J. David Velleman challenges the prevailing consensus about assisted suicide and reproductive technology, articulating an original approach to the ethics of creating and ending human lives. He argues that assistance in dying is appropriate only at the point where talk of suicide is not, and he raises moral objections to anonymous donor conception. In their place, Velleman champions a morality of valuing personhood over happiness in making end-of-life decisions, and respecting the personhood of future children in making decisions about procreation. These controversial views are defended with philosophical rigor while remaining accessible to the general reader. Written over Velleman's 30 years of undergraduate teaching in bioethics, the essays have never before been collected and made available to a non-academic audience. They will open new lines of debate on issues of intense public interest.

As it happens when a ray of sunshine penetrates from the dormer window, to break through the walls of the darkness of a dusty attic, so the darkness of that mass grave was pierced by the dazzling reflection of a glow of memory, which raised the dust of seconds, minutes, hours, days, months and years past, that eternity had deposited there. ?Perhaps it is these ? he thought ? that appear in those strange dreams without meaning, where it happens that the door of the mass grave of those confused fragments opens and come out like the gusts of the winds of Aeolus, enclosed in the wineskin....

But what if changing how you think about stress could make you happier, healthier, and better able to reach your goals? Combining exciting new research on resilience and mindset, Kelly McGonigal, PhD, proves that undergoing stress is not bad for you; it is undergoing stress while believing that stress is bad for you that makes it harmful. In fact, stress has many benefits, from giving us greater focus and energy, to strengthening our personal relationships. McGonigal shows readers how to cultivate a mindset that embraces stress, and activate the brain's natural ability to learn from challenging experiences. Both practical and life-changing, The Upside of Stress is not a guide to getting rid of stress, but a toolkit for getting better at it—by understanding, accepting, and leveraging it to your advantage.
Book Synopsis Anxieties of Interiority and Dissection in Early Modern Spain by : Enrique Fernandez
Download or read book Anxieties of Interiority and Dissection in Early Modern Spain written by Enrique Fernandez and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2015-01-01 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anxieties of Interiority and Dissection in Early Modern Spain brings the study of Europe's "culture of dissection" to the Iberian peninsula, presenting a neglected episode in the development of the modern concept of the self. Enrique Fernandez explores the ways in which sixteenth and seventeenth-century anatomical research stimulated both a sense of interiority and a fear of that interior's exposure and punishment by the early modern state. Examining works by Miguel de Cervantes, María de Zayas, Fray Luis de Granada, and Francisco de Quevedo, Fernandez highlights the existence of narratives in which the author creates a surrogate self on paper, then "dissects" it. He argues that these texts share a fearful awareness of having a complex inner self in a country where one's interiority was under permanent threat of punitive exposure by the Inquisition or the state. A sophisticated analysis of literary, religious, and medical practice in early modern Spain, Fernandez's work will interest scholars working on questions of early modern science, medicine, and body politics.
