Book Synopsis The Monte Carlo Methods by : Abdo Abou Jaoudé
Download or read book The Monte Carlo Methods written by Abdo Abou Jaoudé and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-03-09 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In applied mathematics, the name Monte Carlo is given to the method of solving problems by means of experiments with random numbers. This name, after the casino at Monaco, was first applied around 1944 to the method of solving deterministic problems by reformulating them in terms of a problem with random elements, which could then be solved by large-scale sampling. But, by extension, the term has come to mean any simulation that uses random numbers. Monte Carlo methods have become among the most fundamental techniques of simulation in modern science. This book is an illustration of the use of Monte Carlo methods applied to solve specific problems in mathematics, engineering, physics, statistics, and science in general.
Book Synopsis Forecasting in Mathematics by : Abdo Abou Jaoude
Download or read book Forecasting in Mathematics written by Abdo Abou Jaoude and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2021-01-27 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical probability and statistics are an attractive, thriving, and respectable part of mathematics. Some mathematicians and philosophers of science say they are the gateway to mathematics’ deepest mysteries. Moreover, mathematical statistics denotes an accumulation of mathematical discussions connected with efforts to most efficiently collect and use numerical data subject to random or deterministic variations. Currently, the concept of probability and mathematical statistics has become one of the fundamental notions of modern science and the philosophy of nature. This book is an illustration of the use of mathematics to solve specific problems in engineering, statistics, and science in general.

Book excerpt: The 5th Symposium on Stochastic Algorithms, Foundations and Applications (SAGA 2009) took place during October 26–28, 2009, at Hokkaido University, Sapporo(Japan).ThesymposiumwasorganizedbytheDivisionofComputerS- ence,GraduateSchoolofComputerScienceandTechnology,HokkaidoUniversity. It o?ered the opportunity to present original research on the design and analysis of randomized algorithms, random combinatorialstructures, implem- tation, experimental evaluation and real-world application of stochastic al- rithms/heuristics. In particular, the focus of the SAGA symposia series is on investigating the power of randomization in algorithms, and on the theory of stochastic processes especially within realistic scenarios and applications. Thus, the scope ofthe symposiumrangesfromthe study oftheoreticalfundamentals of randomizedcomputationtoexperimentalinvestigationsonalgorithms/heuristics and related stochastic processes. The SAGA symposium series is a biennial meeting. Previous SAGA s- posiatookplaceinBerlin,Germany(2001,LNCSvol.2264),Hat?eld,UK(2003, LNCS vol. 2827), Moscow, Russia (2005, LNCS vol. 3777), and Zur ¨ ich, Switz- land (2007, LNCS vol. 4665). This year 22 submissions were received, and the Program Committee selected 15 submissions for presentation. All papers were evaluated by at least three members of the ProgramCommittee, partly with the assistance of subreferees. The present volume contains the texts of the 15 papers presented at SAGA 2009, divided into groups of papers on learning, graphs, testing, optimization, and caching as well as on stochastic algorithms in bioinformatics.

Book Synopsis Approximation and Weak Convergence Methods for Random Processes, with Applications to Stochastic Systems Theory by : Harold Joseph Kushner
Download or read book Approximation and Weak Convergence Methods for Random Processes, with Applications to Stochastic Systems Theory written by Harold Joseph Kushner and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1984 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control and communications engineers, physicists, and probability theorists, among others, will find this book unique. It contains a detailed development of approximation and limit theorems and methods for random processes and applies them to numerous problems of practical importance. In particular, it develops usable and broad conditions and techniques for showing that a sequence of processes converges to a Markov diffusion or jump process. This is useful when the natural physical model is quite complex, in which case a simpler approximation la diffusion process, for example) is usually made. The book simplifies and extends some important older methods and develops some powerful new ones applicable to a wide variety of limit and approximation problems. The theory of weak convergence of probability measures is introduced along with general and usable methods (for example, perturbed test function, martingale, and direct averaging) for proving tightness and weak convergence. Kushner's study begins with a systematic development of the method. It then treats dynamical system models that have state-dependent noise or nonsmooth dynamics. Perturbed Liapunov function methods are developed for stability studies of nonMarkovian problems and for the study of asymptotic distributions of non-Markovian systems. Three chapters are devoted to applications in control and communication theory (for example, phase-locked loops and adoptive filters). Smallnoise problems and an introduction to the theory of large deviations and applications conclude the book. Harold J. Kushner is Professor of Applied Mathematics and Engineering at Brown University and is one of the leading researchers in the area of stochastic processes concerned with analysis and synthesis in control and communications theory. This book is the sixth in The MIT Press Series in Signal Processing, Optimization, and Control, edited by Alan S. Willsky.
