For as long as Seth can remember he’s been trapped behind the iron bars of the public gardens, desperate to explore the world outside. By day he’s frozen in a stone skin as a statue of a shepherd boy. As soon as the sun sets he’s free to roam the park, ravenously hungry. He’s a troll, and the food he seeks is human memories. But somehow he’s yearning for something more than an endless cycle of hunting and loneliness. Then he meets Stella, who has just moved to live with her grandfather in a house neighbouring the park. Her mind is sharp and quick and there’s something so different about her — she’s the only human Seth has met whose memories make his insides burn. He doesn’t want to feed off her. He simply wants to talk to her. Maybe she can help him find another way to live? Engrossing, spine-chilling and surprising, this is a novel that grabs the reader and holds them spellbound. What terrible memory is Stella trying to escape? What are the fragments of memory that Seth is trying to put together? And is there any possibility that Seth could escape the lonely garden and start truly living?

Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The knockdown, drag-out, untold story of the other scandal that rocked Nixon’s White House, and reset the rules for crooked presidents to come—with new reporting that expands on Rachel Maddow’s Peabody Award–nominated podcast “Both a thriller and a history book, Bag Man is a triumph of storytelling.”—Preet Bharara, New York Times bestselling author of Doing Justice and host of the podcast Stay Tuned with Preet Is it possible for a sitting vice president to direct a vast criminal enterprise within the halls of the White House? To have one of the most brazen corruption scandals in American history play out while nobody’s paying attention? And for that scandal to be all but forgotten decades later? The year was 1973, and Spiro T. Agnew, the former governor of Maryland, was Richard Nixon’s second-in-command. Long on firebrand rhetoric and short on political experience, Agnew had carried out a bribery and extortion ring in office for years, when—at the height of Watergate—three young federal prosecutors discovered his crimes and launched a mission to take him down before it was too late, before Nixon’s impending downfall elevated Agnew to the presidency. The self-described “counterpuncher” vice president did everything he could to bury their investigation: dismissing it as a “witch hunt,” riling up his partisan base, making the press the enemy, and, with a crumbling circle of loyalists, scheming to obstruct justice in order to survive. In this blockbuster account, Rachel Maddow and Michael Yarvitz detail the investigation that exposed Agnew’s crimes, the attempts at a cover-up—which involved future president George H. W. Bush—and the backroom bargain that forced Agnew’s resignation but also spared him years in federal prison. Based on the award-winning hit podcast, Bag Man expands and deepens the story of Spiro Agnew’s scandal and its lasting influence on our politics, our media, and our understanding of what it takes to confront a criminal in the White House.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As explained by Dr. Brooks Agnew on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory, History Channel, and National Geographic Channel, Planet Earth is made of two planets, one very high frequency, and one low frequency, occupying the same space. Merged during the Flood of Noah, they have been rotating in harmony for nearly six thousand years. Until now. Crafted as a trilogy of major motion pictures, this is the epic story of conflict and conquest between the five races of beings mentioned in the Book of Genesis. The one-party presidential system breaks down, allowing a write-in candidate, Robert Riker, to be elected. Ancient powers controlling the economics and military activity of Earth are thwarted by the will of the people. Here and there, pockets of light are woven together as the ultimate conflict between the seed of Lucifer and the seed of Adam square off for the grand battle for inheritance of the Earth. This book is true, with use of fictional characters to help tell the story. In a white knuckle ride, the reader is chased from beginning to end. Enormous financial empires strategically move billions of dollars to take advantage of their foreknowledge of the events that are coming. The events are real. The names of these billionaires are real. Nothing has been changed to protect anyone, because they are all guilty. History has unfolded exactly as this book tells it. The battle between good and evil happens every day on the television news, and by reading this book you will know why. You will also know why it is vital that you do something about it, starting with reading this book and then getting others to read it. We don't have much time. The race is on.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Australian history has been revised and reinterpreted by successive generations of historians, writers, governments and public commentators, yet there has been no account of the ways it has changed, who makes history, and how. Making Australian History responds to this critical gap in Australian historical research.A few years ago Anna Clark saw a series of paintings on a sandstone cliff face in the Northern Territory. There were characteristic crosshatched images of fat barramundi and turtles, as well as sprayed handprints and several human figures with spears. Next to them was a long gun, painted with white ochre, an unmistakable image of the colonisers. Was this an Indigenous rendering of contact? A work of history? Each piece of history has a message and context that depends on who wrote it and when. Australian history has swirled and contorted over the years: the history wars have embroiled historians, politicians and public commentators alike, while debates over historical fiction have been as divisive. History isn't just about understanding what happened and why. It also reflects the persuasions, politics and prejudices of its authors. Each iteration of Australia's national story reveals not only the past in question, but also the guiding concerns and perceptions of each generation of history makers.Making Australian History is bold and inclusive: it catalogues and contextualises changing readings of the past, it examines the increasingly problematic role of historians as national storytellers, and it incorporates the stories of people.

Book excerpt: Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Agnew (and variant spellings) families who came mainly from Ireland, France, Scotland, and possibly Italy. The Agnews were a bardic sept of both the O'Neill and Douglas Clans in Scotland. Agnews were the hereditary sheriffs of Galloway, the keepers of Locknaw Castle until the position was abolished in the 1700s. Some focus is on several key ancestors. One was Niven Agnew, who immigrated to North America in the 1600s. Another was Sir Andrew Agnew of Locknaw, Kircudbright, and Wistonshire. A third was Sir Patrick Agnew who, in 1426 married Lady Mary Kennedy, the granddaughter of King Robert III of Scotland. Another was Georgia Agnews, who came through the children of Elijah and Susannah Nix Agnew, i.e. Daniel Harrison, William Carlisle, George McDuffy, Elizabeth Jane, and Ludlow P. Agnew. Agnews were prominent in southwestern Scotland (in the Rhinns of Galloway) and in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The Chateaux d'Agneaux in Agneau (near St. Lô), France is associated with the Angew family, as is the Kilwaughter Castle in County Antrim. In the 1600-1800s, some Angews settled in Prince Edward Island (Canada), Australia, New Zealand, and in Georgia, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. Later descendants also lived in British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Ontario (Canada), Brazil, England, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Scotland, and in Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and elsewhere.
