Book excerpt: Every home has its secrets…For Nora, the truth starts to be revealed on Halloween night. It’s been a bad few months for Nora Wilson. There was a huge fire in her family’s apartment this summer, and her parents have been acting superweird ever since. They won’t let her or her brother out of the apartment anymore, not even to go to school. So when Nora’s parents say she can go trick-or-treating on Halloween, Nora is thrilled. And she’s even more thrilled to make a new friend, Caitlin, who just moved into the apartment building. Caitlin knows nothing about what happened to Nora’s family, but she does seem to know a lot about the ghosts that are rumored to haunt the building. As she shares these ghost stories with Nora, Nora can’t help but be chilled by them. Are they hitting just a little too close to home? This spooky story is rated a Level 4 on the Creep-o-Meter.

This three-book set of British crime novels includes: Closer to Home Newly promoted DI Kate Fletcher has reluctantly returned to her hometown after a twenty-year absence and a recent divorce. The discovery of a child’s body near the estate where Kate grew up has her rushing back to Thorpe—a place of bad memories and closed mouths. Her team keeps hitting dead ends as the community is reluctant to reopen old wounds and retell old stories. But Kate’s own history refuses to stay buried. And then another child goes missing . . . Merciless Kate is called out to a freezing canal where a woman’s body is found floating in a lock. With no ID, the police struggle to piece together the details of the woman’s life. Meanwhile, in Thorpe, a daughter confesses to her father’s murder. She says she helped him escape a painful death from liver cancer, but was her role more active than she claims? Soon, the links between the two cases are inescapable and everything seems to lead back to a teenager’s disappearance years earlier. Then the main suspect vanishes . . . Bad Seed When a body is found near Doncaster’s red light district, Kate is called to the scene. The victim has an abdominal wound that looks like a Caesarean incision, leading the police to believe she may have been pregnant. But the postmortem says she wasn’t—and a second murder suggests they’re hunting a serial killer with a sinister fixation . . .

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let me start off by saying I never thought I would see the day that my writing would actually be published and displayed. I wrote this book for my senior writing project class my senior year of college. It was a two semester class that included a lot of editing and adding to the book throughout it all with the help of my professor and classmates through Zoom since we were online my whole senior year. Personally, I love reading romance novels or dramas. My inspiration for this piece was to make it seem like a lifetime movie. I wanted the reader to really feel as though they are in the main character's shoes. While coming up with that, I thought of the idea of making up a fictional character and have them encounter real life events and ran with it. Adding to that, I made this character face hard situations that made her get to her goal of getting into her dream college. Going off of that, Cass (A totally made up character) had to face addiction, loss, heartbreak and life changing moments that altered her life forever. She comes up on top and makes her come back through self-intervention, recovery, and therapy. It's never too late to get to your dream destination and that is exactly what I wanted my character to portray.

To make matters worse, she fears she might very well be his alibi. A young and successful lawyer, Grayson Thorpe’s life is turned upside down when he arrives home after a night of passion with a beautiful stranger and discovers his wife’s lifeless body. He’s just come from the bed of a woman who has rocked his world and now he’s being interrogated by the police. Even more confronting, the woman he spent the night with is no other than one of the detectives now regarding him with suspicion and distrust. Grayson knows he is innocent, but how will he convince the police of this? More importantly, will the beautiful detective believe he’s telling the truth when all evidence points to his guilt? USA Today bestselling author Chris Taylor’s second book in the hugely popular Barrington Family series will keep you turning the pages right until the very end…

Book excerpt: "This is absorbing, headlong reading, a play on classic horror with an inventiveness of its own... As with all the best illusions, you are left feeling not tricked, but full of wonder." – The New York Times The haunting new thriller from Alex North, author of the New York Times bestseller The Whisper Man You knew a teenager like Charlie Crabtree. A dark imagination, a sinister smile--always on the outside of the group. Some part of you suspected he might be capable of doing something awful. Twenty-five years ago, Crabtree did just that, committing a murder so shocking that it’s attracted that strange kind of infamy that only exists on the darkest corners of the internet--and inspired more than one copycat. Paul Adams remembers the case all too well: Crabtree--and his victim--were Paul’s friends. Paul has slowly put his life back together. But now his mother, old and suffering from dementia, has taken a turn for the worse. Though every inch of him resists, it is time to come home. It's not long before things start to go wrong. Paul learns that Detective Amanda Beck is investigating another copycat that has struck in the nearby town of Featherbank. His mother is distressed, insistent that there's something in the house. And someone is following him. Which reminds him of the most unsettling thing about that awful day twenty-five years ago. It wasn't just the murder. It was the fact that afterward, Charlie Crabtree was never seen again...

Book excerpt: When Teagan’s father abruptly abandons his family and his farm, Teagan finds herself wading through the wreckage of what was once an idyllic life, searching for something—or someone—to hold on to. What she finds is Ian, short for Obsidian: the magnificent but dangerously headstrong horse her father left behind. But even as she grows close to Ian, patiently training him, trying to overcome her fear of him, Teagan is learning that life and love are fragile. With an unflinching eye and remarkable restraint, Talley English tells a piercing story about how families hold together and fall apart; about loss and grief; about friendship; about the blunt cruelty of chance; and, finally, about forgiveness.
