Book excerpt: Australia today is facing a health crisis such as we have never seen before. Rates of cancer, obesity, diabetes, asthma, ADHD and behavioural disorders in our children are all alarmingly high. What is happening and what can we do to safeguard our own health and the health of our children? Our diets must be part of the problem and fixing our diets must be a large part of the solution. The use of food additives in our everyday foods has increased so rapidly over the past 50 years that it is getting difficult to find foods which are additive free. Although most food additives are safe, there are many which are known to be harmful. Additive Alert will tell you quickly and easily which ones you need to avoid and why.
Book Synopsis Allergy Alert Cookbook by : Filipek, Rosita Blanka
Download or read book Allergy Alert Cookbook written by Filipek, Rosita Blanka and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What you will learn in this cookbook? How does it differ from other ones? When I had severe MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivities) and food allergies (they often come together), I learned about which foods I could eat safely. This book contains recipes made only with these safe foods. You will own over 320 recipes tailored to your needs: * They are not complicated, not time and money consuming and do not require any hunting for extraordinary ingredients. You won't be lost in many words reading them. * You will be given recipes with kamut, quinoa, millet, buckwheat, barely and amaranth as alternatives for the allergenic wheat. * You will find a recipe for baking powder and egg substitute. You will learn which type of eggs may be safe to eat. * As an alternative for allergenic pork, chicken, beef and shellfish, you will find scrumptious recipes for lamb and a few kinds of fish that nobody is allergic to. * You will be happy to learn of dishes and drinks made from goat's milk and cheese, which test good for people on the strictest MCS diets. * For sweeteners, you will use healthy non-allergenic maple syrup, and later, honey. According to Dr. D G. Williams, "sugar is slow suicide". * While other "allergy cookbooks" offer recipes with unhealthy margarine and oils (because the authors so not have a clue about their potential harmfulness), you will use healthy, absolutely non-allergenic virgin olive oil. * You will still be enjoying corn. That is - blue corn - as a replacement for the genetically modified (GM) corn. * You will learn about the hazards of GM foods on the market today, which of them you might already be buying, and which are being prepared for the market. * You will find out by simple inexpensive test which food you can tolerate, which foods strengthen you and which ones are poisonous to your body. * You will learn about a recent major medical discovery on page 61. Forward Do you own a whole row of cookbook, and yet, you do not know what to cook? I found myself in this situation a few years ago. I was seriously ill and on a very restrictive diet. I was allergic to most foods and all chemicals. I went through an impressive row of my cookbooks, but found only a few recipes in each cookbook, that I could use. Why store something I did not need? I took my scissors and went to work. I cut out few recipes from each book which could modified for for my diet. Except for my cookbook: "Roister Blanka's Bohemian Recipe Collection", which I made earlier, the rest were discarded. For wheat I substituted healthy kamut, barely, amaranth, quinoa, millet, buckwheat, and rice. I have replaced cow's milk products with goat's milk products (No mad goat's disease yet!) For sweeteners, I used maple syrup and honey. For meats I used fish and lamb. I found substitutes for eggs and baking powder. My second cookbook for the sick times was born! Why was I, together with an increasing amount of people, so allergic? I thought, for the first time in my life, about the tons of chemicals which are being dumped into the air, water and food. I thought about pesticides cleaning supplies, detergent and personal care items I was using. They were full of toxic chemicals. I identified "the last straw that broke the camels back". It was a tiny leak of gas in our house and mold. I subscribed to "Our Toxic Times". I immersed myself in deep studies on the subject. Instead of products with chemicals, I started to use natural products. I started to flee from any chemical scents. It took no longer to identify the other reasons for my allergies. More and more of our food is being genetically engineered. It contains anything from fish genes to human genes! The genetic engineers are playing a dangerous game with God's perfect creation. (Should we say- with "the perfect creation of one unique couple: Brainless Mother Nature and Blind Force Father Evolution"?) For exa

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CURVE YOUR APPETITE. Dumping the fake stuff and relishing real food will make you feel better, help you drop pounds, and most importantly, take all the fear out of what you eat. Does that sound too good to be true? It isn’t—despite the fact that lately we’ve given up ripe vegetables for the canned stuff; tossed out sweet, tart orange juice for pasteurized concentrate; traded fresh fish for boil-in-a-bag dinners; and replaced real desserts with supersweet snacks that make us feel ridiculously overfed but definitely disappointed. The result? Most of us are overweight or obese—or heading that way; more and more of us suffer from diabetes, clogged arteries, and even bad knees. We eat too much of the fake stuff, yet we’re still hungry. And not satisfied. Who hasn’t tried to change all that? Who hasn’t walked into a supermarket and thought, I’m going to eat better from now on? So you load your cart with whole-grain crackers, fish fillets, and asparagus. Sure, you have a few barely satisfying meals before you think, Hey, life’s too short for this! And soon enough, you’re back to square one. For real change, you need a real plan. It’s in your hands. Real Food Has Curves is a fun and ultimately rewarding seven-step journey to rediscover the basic pleasure of fresh, well-prepared natural ingredients: curvy, voluptuous, juicy, sweet, savory. And yes, scrumptious, too. In these simple steps—each with its own easy, delicious recipes—you’ll learn to become a better shopper, savor your meals, and eat your way to a better you. Yes, you’ll drop pounds. But you won’t be counting calories. Instead, you’ll learn to celebrate the abundance all around. It’s time to realize that food is not the enemy but a life-sustaining gift. It’s time to get off the processed and packaged merry-go-round. It’s time to be satisfied, nourished, thinner, and above all, happier. It’s time for real food. Shape your waist, rediscover real food, and find new pleasure in every meal as Bruce Weinstein and Mark Scarbrough teach you how to: • Eat to be satisfied • Recognize the fake and kick it to the curb • Learn to relish the big flavors you’d forgotten • Get healthier and thinner • Save money and time in your food budget • Decode the lies of deprivation diets • Relish every minute, every bite, and all of life REAL FOOD. Book Synopsis The Homemade Pantry by : Alana Chernila
Download or read book The Homemade Pantry written by Alana Chernila and published by Clarkson Potter. This book was released on 2012-04-03 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “This is my kitchen. Come on in, but be prepared—it might not be quite what you expect. There is flour on the counter, oats that overflowed onto the floor, chocolate-encrusted spoons in the sink. There is Joey, the husband, exhausted by the thirty-five preschoolers who were hanging on him all day, and he is stuffing granola into his mouth to ease his five o’clock starvation. There are two little girls trying to show me cartwheels in that miniscule space between the refrigerator and the counter where I really need to be.” In her debut cookbook, Alana Chernila inspires you to step inside your kitchen, take a look around, and change the way you relate to food. The Homemade Pantry was born of a tight budget, Alana’s love for sharing recipes with her farmers’ market customers, and a desire to enjoy a happy cooking and eating life with her young family. On a mission to kick their packaged-food habit, she learned that with a little determination, anything she could buy at the store could be made in her kitchen, and her homemade versions were more satisfying, easier to make than she expected, and tastier. Here are her very approachable recipes for 101 everyday staples, organized by supermarket aisle—from crackers to cheese, pesto to sauerkraut, and mayonnaise to toaster pastries. The Homemade Pantry is a celebration of food made by hand—warm mozzarella that is stretched, thick lasagna noodles rolled from flour and egg, fresh tomato sauce that bubbles on the stove. Whether you are trying a recipe for butter, potato chips, spice mixes, or ketchup, you will discover the magic and thrill that comes with the homemade pantry. Alana captures the humor and messiness of everyday family life, too. A true friend to the home cook, she shares her “tense moments” to help you get through your own. With stories offering patient, humble advice, tips for storing the homemade foods, and rich four-color photography throughout, The Homemade Pantry will quickly become the go-to source for how to make delicious staples in your home kitchen.
