He continues to serve as a full time school, college, career and social justice counselor in a public high school in NYC. He is also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.Dr. Mainzer holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in History from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, Commonwealth Scholar), and New York University, respectively. He earned a Masters in School Counseling from Hunter College and a Doctorate in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. For many years a Board Member of the New York State School Counselor Association, he now serves on the Board of Directors of the American School Counselor Association. He has presented at professional events through-out New York State and at conferences nationwide, including the National Association for College Admission Counseling and AVID. He also serves on the Ethics Committee of the National Career Development Association.
