Book Synopsis Historical Dictionary of Botswana by : Barry Morton
Download or read book Historical Dictionary of Botswana written by Barry Morton and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-06-13 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The death of Botswana’s last founding father, Sir Ketumile Quett Masire, in June 2017, marked the end of an era. Since the release of the Fourth Edition of Historical Dictionary of Botswana in 2008, Botswana has gone through its most turbulent and divided decade to date. Throughout September 2016, when Botswana celebrated its 50th anniversary of independence, all the successes of the Seretse and Masire era were sources of massive national pride. Botswana had expanded provisions of electricity, water, education, and health services to almost all of its people and become a model nation that owned its natural resources and plowed the profits back into the nation’s development. Despite these successes, Botswana has a high unemployment rate (about 20 percent) and a much larger cohort of the underemployed. This fifth edition of Historical Dictionary of Botswana contains a chronology, an introduction, appendixes, an extensive bibliography, and more than 700 cross-referenced entries on important personalities and aspects of the country’s politics, economy, foreign relations, religion, and culture. This book is an excellent resource for students, researchers, and anyone wanting to know more about Botswana.
Book Synopsis The Bahurutshe by : Heinrich Bammann
Download or read book The Bahurutshe written by Heinrich Bammann and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2016 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bahurutshe explores the history, culture and religion of the Bahurutse in the North-West Province of South Africa. The historical dates, facts, and events of Batswana are informed by verbal tradition. This information attains greater transparancy when the chiefs admit European missionaries into their midst. In this book, Chief Moiloa II plays a prominent role by leading his migratory tribe to settle at Dinokana and including the missionaries in his tribe. The largest contribution towards this book was made by three missionaries from the Hermannsburg Mission Society, who submitted numerous reports to their superiors in Germany. The author, Heinrich Bammann, ministered a Lutheran congregation of the Bahurutshe for ten years. (Series: ?Sources and Contributions to the History of the Hermannsburg Mission and the Lutheran. Book Synopsis Colonial Aspects of Finnish-Namibian Relations, 1870–1990 by : Leila Koivunen
Download or read book Colonial Aspects of Finnish-Namibian Relations, 1870–1990 written by Leila Koivunen and published by Suomalaisen Kirjallisuuden Seura. This book was released on 2024-06-27 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited collection re-examines the long history of Finnish-Namibian relations through the lens of colonialism without colonies as well as anti-colonialism. The book argues that although Finland never acquired colonies, Namibia was once treated in the areas of culture and knowledge formation in a manner now recognised as colonial. Namibian people’s ways of being in the world was transformed when the Finnish Missionary Society started its work in Owambo in 1870 and introduced Christianity and European modes of education, medicine, material culture and social practices. In time, cultural colonialism faded and during the Namibian struggle for independence from South African rule in 1966–1990 Finns took an actively anti-colonial approach. The book was written as a collaborative effort of Namibian, Finnish and South African scholars.
