Book excerpt: The purpose of this investigation was to determine the research potential and eligibility for the nomination of nine sites; in the downstream corridor at Saylorville Lake. The epistemology of archaeological study in fluvial sediments is also scrunitized. The nine sites are endangered by the construction of a bicycle path, road construction and erosion of a river bank. Five sites were determined too small and partially of wholly destroyed and did not meet NRHP criteria for nomination. Three sites met the criteria for NRHP eligibility although one needs further investigation. Holocene landscape evolution for the corridor was clarified. Because of this it was concluded that traditional archaeological testing methods and concepts of site identification and management need to be reevaluated. (Author).

Book Synopsis Quaternary Glaciation of the Great Lakes Region by : Alan Kehew
Download or read book Quaternary Glaciation of the Great Lakes Region written by Alan Kehew and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2018 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taking advantage of new technological advances in Quaternary geology and geomorphology, this volume showcases new developments in glacial geology. Honoring the legacy of Frank Leverett and F.B. Taylor's 1915 USGS monograph of the region, this book includes 12 chapters that cover diverse topics ranging from hydrogeology, near-surface geophysics, geotectonics, and vertebrate paleontology to glacial geomorphology and glacial history. Several papers make use of detailed but nuanced shaded relief maps of digital elevation models of LiDAR data; these advances are brought into historical perspective by visiting the history of geologic mapping of Michigan. Looking forward, interpretations of the shaded relief maps evoke novel processes, such as regional evolution of subglacial and supraglacial drainage systems of receding glacial margins. The volume also includes assessment of chronological issues in light of greater accuracy and precision of radiocarbon dating of plant fossils using accelerator mass spectrometry versus older techniques.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication presents as a reference document the first issuance of the national guidelines for health planning as they were published by the department of health, education, and welfare on march 28, 1978. This is accompanied by a reprinting from the federal register of the preambles to the final rule and to the two notices of proposed rulemaking which preceded the final rule. A purpose of these guidelines is to assist health systems agencies in developing health systems plans and to help clarify and coordinate national health policy. This first issue consists of resource standards with respect to nine specific categories of health services and facilities. General hospital beds, obstetrical inpatient services, neonatal special care units, pediatric inpatient services, open heart surgery, cardia catheterization, radiation therapy, computed tomographic scanners, and end-stage renal disease.
