En este lugar quiero tan sólo indicar que bien pudieran aumentar las aplicaciones que en la segunda parte se hacen a algunos problemas de la teoría social de los resultados generales de la teoría de la ciencia obtenidos en la primera parte —lo que espero que pronto ocurra gracias a la colaboración de un número mayor de investigadores— y que, por lo tanto, no he puesto demasiado empeño por lograr una correspondencia exacta y minuciosa de los análisis desarrollados en cada una de las partes. These debates made Dewey a household name and a renowned public intellectual during the early to mid-twentieth century, a time when the United States fought two World Wars, struggled through an economic depression, experienced explosive economic growth and spawned a grassroots movement that characterized an entire era: Progressivism. Unfortunately, much recent Dewey scholarship neglects to situate Dewey’s ideas in the broader context of his activities and engagements as a public intellectual. This project charts a path through two of Dewey’s actual debates with his contemporaries, Leon Trotsky and Robert Hutchins, to two reconstructed debates with contemporary intellectuals, E.D. Here, RIMES is used to measure the extent of social exclusion resulting from the penal system in comparative perspective. Divided into two parts, the first provides a general overview of the RIMES instrument, including a discussion of the theoretical model and the methodology. The second part focuses on the results of the application of RIMES in the seven jurisdictions. The comparative results are organised according to the nine dimensions included in the RIMES instrument: control of public spaces; legal safeguards; sentencing and sanctions systems; harshest penalties; prison rules; preventive intervention; legal and social status of offenders and ex-offenders; police and criminal records; and youth criminal justice. The last chapter summarizes the comparative results and ranks them in terms of the findings on social exclusion.
