Book Synopsis An Introduction to Natural Theology by : Maurice R. Holloway
Download or read book An Introduction to Natural Theology written by Maurice R. Holloway and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-06-21 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “What is the God of the philosopher? Can the philosopher, that is to say, can human reason, unenlightened by the revealed word, come to a true and secure understanding of ‘He-Who-Is’? Is it possible for mere man, without the impact of a personal experience, intimate and intuitive, to arrive by means of an objective demonstration at an absolute affirmation that the Being we call God exists, or that He is Pure Act, Existence Itself, because without him the world of our experience is unintelligible, a complete contradiction? “And even if we admit, as all Christian philosophers must, that unaided reason is able by its own power to reach an objectively true and secure assent that God exists, is there any evidence, in the recorded history of our world, that man, without the directive knowledge of revelation, ever did secure by a metaphysical effort this absolute truth that the Ipsum Esse exists? Whatever be the answer to this difficult problem—and we do not pretend to know it—it is obvious that Father Holloway, in composing his philosophical approach to God, allowed himself to be guided by the knowledge of faith. Indeed, he must have prayed often for the enlightenment which the supernatural motion of divine grace brings even to the limited and imperfect intellect of a philosopher.” —From the Foreword by Henri Renard, S.J.

Download or read book FilosofÍa para PolicÍas written by Jose Luis Ruiz and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012-09 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Limits of Liberation by : Elina Vuola
Download or read book Limits of Liberation written by Elina Vuola and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2002-09-19 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How far are the real lives of millions of poor women really catered for in liberation and feminist theologies? Vuola argues here that traditional liberation theology's notion of praxis (as in L .Boff and E. Dussel) is limited by its essentialist notion of 'poor' and its neglect of the issue of poor women's reproductive rights. Classical feminist theologies, on the other hand, are fraught with their own essentialist notions ('women's experience'). Both discourses are inadequate to deal with poor women's suffering: widespread maternal mortality, high rates of botched, illegal abortions, and an overall lack of reproductive rights. As a response to this lack, Vuola nurtures a form of Latin American feminist liberation theology that addresses directly the suffering and death of these millions of women.

Download or read book God and Goodness written by Mark Wynn and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-11-01 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 2004. God and Goodness takes the experience of value as a starting point for natural theology. Mark Wynn argues that theism offers our best understanding of the goodness of the world, especially its beauty and openness to the development of richer and more complex material forms. We also see that the world's goodness calls for a moral response: commitment to the goodness of the world represents a natural extension of the trust to which we aspire in our dealings with human beings. Wynn argues that the goodness of the world provides a glimpse into what we should mean by 'God'. Here, he seeks to recover the mediaeval sense that the goodness of the world offers an image of the goodness of God, not simply in relation to the world, but in itself. This book will be an invaluable read for those interested in natural theology and philosophy of religion.
Book Synopsis The Method of the Divine Government, Physical and Moral by : James McCosh
Download or read book The Method of the Divine Government, Physical and Moral written by James McCosh and published by . This book was released on 1851 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "We live in an age in which the reflecting portion of mankind are much addicted to the contemplation of the works of nature. It is the object of the author in this Treatise to "interrogate nature," with the view of making her utter her voice in answer to some of the most important questions which the inquiring spirit of man can put. To guard against misapprehension, he wishes it to be understood that he treats in this book of the Method of the Divine Government in the world rather than in the Church; of the ordinary providence of God rather than his extraordinary dealings towards his redeemed people."
