This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The International Federation for Structural Concrete (fib) is a pre-normative organization. 'Pre-normative' implies pioneering work in codification. This work has now been realized with the fib Model Code 2010. The objectives of the fib Model Code 2010 are to serve as a basis for future codes for concrete structures, and present new developments with regard to concrete structures, structural materials and new ideas in order to achieve optimum behaviour. The fib Model Code 2010 is now the most comprehensive code on concrete structures, including their complete life cycle: conceptual design, dimensioning, construction, conservation and dismantlement. It is expected to become an important document for both national and international code committees, practitioners and researchers. The fib Model Code 2010 was produced during the last ten years through an exceptional effort by Joost Walraven (Convener; Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands), Agnieszka Bigaj-van Vliet (Technical Secretary; TNO Built Environment and Geosciences, The Netherlands) as well as experts out of 44 countries from five continents.

Book Synopsis Corrugated Plastic Ducts for Internal Bonded Post-tensioning by : fib Fédération internationale du béton
Download or read book Corrugated Plastic Ducts for Internal Bonded Post-tensioning written by fib Fédération internationale du béton and published by fib Fédération internationale du béton. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimum corrosion protection of post-tensioning tendons has been a priority since the beginning of this technology. The temporary ban of grouted post-tensioning tendons in the United Kingdom, from 1992-1996, has initiated a review of all aspects related to durability of post-tensioning tendons. One of the UK conclusions of this review was to require encapsulation of the post-tensioning tendons into wear-resistant and leak-tight plastic ducts to serve as an additional corrosion protection barrier. Since that time, other countries have at least partially adopted similar approaches. Designs of these plastic ducts may vary significantly between different suppliers. In addition, experience with these systems is still relatively limited. Hence, these plastic ducts cannot be standardised at this time. Therefore, the former FIP Commission 2, and now fib Commission 9 Reinforcing and Prestressing Materials and Systems, has set-up a task group to prepare a fib report on corrugated plastic ducts for internal, bonded post-tensioning. This report is written as a guide for an approval process for such plastic ducts. It shall serve readers such as authorities, and engineers as a guide on how to set-up a formal state approval process for these ducts, or at least allow them to properly assess systems offered for a specific project.

Editorial Group on Inspection and Maintenance of Structures and published by Thomas Telford. This book was released on 1986 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vast extent of the investment in concrete structures in modern times has emphasized the need to maintain these structures in a systematic manner, so that they retain their structural integrity and full usefulness. Such maintenance must be preceded by regular and thorough inspection. This Guide to Good Practice describes the many types of damage - slight or more serious - which may be discovered and the equipment used to carry out inspections. Suggested inspection intervals, related to the severity of loadings and environmental conditions, are given.

Book Synopsis Multiscale Modelling in Biomedical Engineering by : Dimitrios I. Fotiadis
Download or read book Multiscale Modelling in Biomedical Engineering written by Dimitrios I. Fotiadis and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-05-05 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiscale Modelling in Biomedical Engineering Discover how multiscale modeling can enhance patient treatment and outcomes In Multiscale Modelling in Biomedical Engineering, an accomplished team of biomedical professionals delivers a robust treatment of the foundation and background of a general computational methodology for multi-scale modeling. The authors demonstrate how this methodology can be applied to various fields of biomedicine, with a particular focus on orthopedics and cardiovascular medicine. The book begins with a description of the relationship between multiscale modeling and systems biology before moving on to proceed systematically upwards in hierarchical levels from the molecular to the cellular, tissue, and organ level. It then examines multiscale modeling applications in specific functional areas, like mechanotransduction, musculoskeletal, and cardiovascular systems. Multiscale Modelling in Biomedical Engineering offers readers experiments and exercises to illustrate and implement the concepts contained within. Readers will also benefit from the inclusion of: A thorough introduction to systems biology and multi-scale modeling, including a survey of various multi-scale methods and approaches and analyses of their application in systems biology Comprehensive explorations of biomedical imaging and nanoscale modeling at the molecular, cell, tissue, and organ levels Practical discussions of the mechanotransduction perspective, including recent progress and likely future challenges In-depth examinations of risk prediction in patients using big data analytics and data mining Perfect for undergraduate and graduate students of bioengineering, biomechanics, biomedical engineering, and medicine, Multiscale Modelling in Biomedical Engineering will also earn a place in the libraries of industry professional and researchers seeking a one-stop reference to the basic engineering principles of biological systems.
