Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The poem 'Chirag-e-Dair' or Temple Lamp is an eloquent and vibrant Persian masnavi by Mirza Ghalib. While we quote liberally from his Urdu poetry, we know little of his writings in Persian, and while we read of his love for the city of Delhi, we discover in temple Lamp, his rapture over the spiritual and sensual city of Banaras. Chiragh-e-dair is being translated directly from Persian into English in its entirety for the first time, with a critical Introduction by Maaz Bin Bilal. It is Mirza Ghalib's pean to Kashi, which he calls Kaaba-e-Hindostan or the Mecca of India.

Book Synopsis The Sermon on the Mount in the Light of the Temple by : Professor John W Welch
Download or read book The Sermon on the Mount in the Light of the Temple written by Professor John W Welch and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2013-05-28 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No religious text has influenced the world more than has the New Testament's Sermon on the Mount, and yet this crucial text still begs to be more clearly understood. Why was it written? What unifying theme or purpose holds it all together? Should it be called a sermon? Or is it some other kind of composition? How would its earliest listeners have heard its encoded allusions and systematic program? This book offers new insights into the Sermon on the Mount by seeing it in the shadow of the all-pervasive Temple in Jerusalem, which dominated the religious landscape of the world of Jesus and his earliest disciples. Analyzing Matthew 5-7 in light of biblical and Jewish backgrounds, ritual studies, and oral performances in early Christian worship, this reading coherently integrates every line in the Sermon. It positions the Sermon as the premier Christian mystery.

Book Synopsis The Sermon on the Mount by : Carl G. Vaught
Download or read book The Sermon on the Mount written by Carl G. Vaught and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1987-01-23 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the Sermon on the Mount as the locus classicus of the teachings of Jesus. It argues that the Sermon is an expression of the divine perfection in which it is grounded. The center of the book is the injunction contained at the center of the sermon itself—"Be perfect as your father in heaven is perfect." Perfection of this kind is a human response to a divne gift. Consequently, all the Beatitudes and obedience to all the ethical prescriptions in the sermon should be understood as expressions of divine perfection and as finite reflections of God's own work in the world. The Sermon on the Mount requires a transformation of the spirit before its message can become intelligible.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the sky bleeds is a tale of love, sacrifice, struggle, courage, poverty, betrayal and revenge. It's all about finding inner strength even when there's hardly any glimmer of hope. It concludes with conviction that where there's true love, there's way. At the centre of the action is a small village in Rajasthan. The story covers three generations and shows how when the time changes, everything around changes; however the women of the village remain doomed forever under the mercy of dominating men and selfish relatives. The protagonist of the story is a soft-spoken, kind hearted village woman - Bhoomi. True to her name, she remains patient like the earth, which bears all the misdoings of mankind. Then one fine day, just like the earth which when loses its patience, wreaks havoc; the protagonist Bhoomi emerges from the background and even in dire circumstances, stands for what truly belongs to her. How Bhoomi stands up for her loved ones, how she triumphs in spite of everything and becomes a testimony of love and sacrifice for the women folk around her, forms the crux of the story. As the story progresses, the action shifts between Mumbai and Rajasthan, unleashing an eager feeling of what could unfold next. The plight of the women, from the village to city, seems no different. This aspect touches one's heart and bleeds it profusely.

Book excerpt: This work undertakes the presentation of salient features of an encyclopedic subject in a more or less condensed fashion. The importance of the study of heating and illumination is thought to be its contribution to the history of culture as connected with the inventiveness displayed by man in the adaptation of the primary natural key force nearest to his needs in all the earlier stages of progress. The history also suggests the intellectual, esthetic, and religious reactions marking the several stages of culture gradually attained by man.
Book Synopsis The Day of The Lord Commentary by : Greg Hinnant
Download or read book The Day of The Lord Commentary written by Greg Hinnant and published by Gatekeeper Press. This book was released on 2021-08-10 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Old Testament is richly laden with prophecies and foreshadowings of the last days. Having never researched its treasures, however, many Christians possess a lopsided, exclusively New Testament understanding of End-Times prophecy. The Day of the Lord Commentary meticulously examines every Old Testament text foretelling or foreshadowing the dramatic people and events that consummate God’s prophetic plan, terminate this world order, and inaugurate Christ’s unprecedentedly righteous, peaceful, worldwide kingdom on earth. Only the Bible, accurately interpreted, establishes accurate End-Times views. This commentary’s abundant, biblical cross-references lay a deep, broad foundation for a clear, accurate eschatology. It will amaze you how often, and how specifically, Old and New Testament prophets agree. All see the same final events, and in the same order: Tribulation, Armageddon, Millennium! This in-depth study gives special attention to the Old Testament’s less-known “little apocalypses” in Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, and Zechariah, and identifies their many links to John’s well-known apocalypse, Revelation. Soundly refuting Supersessionism, it explains why God has regathered the Jews, reestablished the State of Israel, and preserved it against all odds: Israel’s Day of the Lord is coming! Book Review 1: "Greg Hinnant’s monumental work, The Day of the Lord Commentary, is a must-read for anyone interested in the final summation of End-Times events … Greg takes the reader on an extraordinary journey through the Old Testament with three-dimensional glasses that allows one to see direct references and indirect typology concerning the great drama of redemption as it moves to its conclusion. This may be the foremost study of its kind on this topic." -- Dr. Charles H. Gaulden, Old Testament Professor, Southeastern University Book Review 2: "It is exceptionally common in eschatological study to focus almost exclusively on the New Testament, yet such an approach ignores Paul’s admonition that all scripture is inspired (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The Day of the Lord Commentary provides a systematic overview of important references to the impending Day of the Lord found throughout the Old Testament, and weaves these prophetic expectations into one seamless tapestry throughout the whole Bible." -- Dr. Ran Whitley, DMin, PhD, Professor, Campbell University Book Review 3: "Though a Bible student all my life, certain passages remained obscure and confusing. The Day of the Lord Commentary has changed all of this, as these formerly confusing passages have now come alive. This book’s depth and insight into the Old Testament is astounding. How Greg was able to mine through all the rock and rubble of confusing Bible prophecy to access these precious stones of biblical revelation is truly a gift. This work is a must-read for all who desire a deeper understanding of God’s Word and a valuable resource for ministers, to shed light and understanding on the gospel message we proclaim." -- Sherri Leith, Senior Pastor, Family Worship Center, Port Orchard, Washington Book Review 4: "The Day of the Lord Commentary provides an in-depth study of biblical eschatology. Using a detailed comparative analysis of the eschatological oracles scattered throughout the Hebrew Bible, Greg lays out a theological roadmap for understanding God’s plan for Israel and the nations. This book, written from a Christian perspective, tackles some of the most intriguing End-Times prophecies recorded in Israel’s sacred scriptures. Pastors, preachers, and Bible teachers will greatly benefit from this thought-provoking volume." -- Dr. Igal German, Founding Director, Yesod Bible Center, and International Biblical Apologetics Association (bibleapologist.org)
