Book excerpt: While today's Telluride might bring to mind a hot tourist spot and upscale ski resort, the earliest days of the town and surrounding San Miguel County were marked by an abundance of gamblers, con men and murderers. From Bob Meldrum, a deputized killer who prowled the streets during times of labor unrest, to the author's own ancestor, Charlie Turner, a brash young man killed in a shooting in Ophir, Carol Turner's Notorious Telluride offers a glimpse at some of the sordid, shocking and sad pioneer tales of the area.

Book Synopsis Radiative Properties of Semiconductors by : N.M. Ravindra
Download or read book Radiative Properties of Semiconductors written by N.M. Ravindra and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2017-08-21 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optical properties, particularly in the infrared range of wavelengths, continue to be of enormous interest to both material scientists and device engineers. The need for the development of standards for data of optical properties in the infrared range of wavelengths is very timely considering the on-going transition of nano-technology from fundamental R&D to manufacturing. Radiative properties play a critical role in the processing, process control and manufacturing of semiconductor materials, devices, circuits and systems. The design and implementation of real-time process control methods in manufacturing requires the knowledge of the radiative properties of materials. Sensors and imagers operate on the basis of the radiative properties of materials. This book reviews the optical properties of various semiconductors in the infrared range of wavelengths. Theoretical and experimental studies of the radiative properties of semiconductors are presented. Previous studies, potential applications and future developments are outlined. In Chapter 1, an introduction to the radiative properties is presented. Examples of instrumentation for measurements of the radiative properties is described in Chapter 2. In Chapters 3-11, case studies of the radiative properties of several semiconductors are elucidated. The modeling and applications of these properties are explained in Chapters 12 and 13, respectively. In Chapter 14, examples of the global infrastructure for these measurements are illustrated.

Joe Bear Spirit, a Ute Indian Vietnam helicopter pilot and Indian Water Right's activist throws in with Cooper on the YBarC. Judy rides the range with Cooper on her champion barrel racing horse and Adrianna, descended from centuries of Spanish gold mining witches, also joins to help save the YBarC 's rangeland and water rights from the forces that would destroy one of the Americas' most remote and beautiful places. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: * Hikes chosen, described, and photographed by experienced members of the Colorado Mountain Club (CMC) * A wide variety of hikes, from family- and wheelchair-friendly to difficult treks •Includes detailed comments, route descriptions, driving directions, maps, elevation gain, difficulty rating, estimated time of the hike, round-trip distance, and nearest landmark * Fits in your pocket or daypack and features color photos and maps throughout the book The Best Telluride Hikes continues the series of best-selling pack guides published by Colorado Mountain Club Press since 2008. The trails range from the scenic and wheelchair-accessible Idarado Legacy Trail, at the east end of town, which provides a window into Telluride’s past with its educative plaques that line the paved path, to the challenging Bilk Creek Basin Trail, southwest of town, in the Lizard Head Wilderness, which is known for its picturesque waterfalls. All of the hikes in this fit-in-your-pocket guide are within an hour or so drive of Telluride, not only giving the hiker options in and around town but also close to other prominent towns in the northern San Juans, such as Ouray——known as the Switzerland of America. Each hike offers a glimpse into what many consider the most beautiful part of Colorado, taking you to the base of the incomparable rock spire Lizard Head (perhaps the most difficult summit to ascend in Colorado), to Bridal Veil Falls, Colorado’s tallest free falling waterfall, cascading 365 feet to the base of the box canyon below.
Book Synopsis Mercury Cadmium Telluride by : Peter Capper
Download or read book Mercury Cadmium Telluride written by Peter Capper and published by Wiley. This book was released on 2010-11-03 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mercury cadmium telluride (MCT) is the third most well-regarded semiconductor after silicon and gallium arsenide and is the material of choice for use in infrared sensing and imaging. The reason for this is that MCT can be ‘tuned’ to the desired IR wavelength by varying the cadmium concentration. Mercury Cadmium Telluride: Growth, Properties and Applications provides both an introduction for newcomers, and a comprehensive review of this fascinating material. Part One discusses the history and current status of both bulk and epitaxial growth techniques, Part Two is concerned with the wide range of properties of MCT, and Part Three covers the various device types that have been developed using MCT. Each chapter opens with some historical background and theory before presenting current research. Coverage includes: Bulk growth and properties of MCT and CdZnTe for MCT epitaxial growth Liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) growth Metal-organic vapour phase epitaxy (MOVPE) Molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) Alternative substrates Mechanical, thermal and optical properties of MCT Defects, diffusion, doping and annealing Dry device processing Photoconductive and photovoltaic detectors Avalanche photodiode detectors Room-temperature IR detectors
