Book excerpt: We need to tell our story so others will benefit. What have you been through that will help someone facing the same problem? God allows the storms to give us opportunity to discover who He is. He wants us to know He is always with us even during our darkest hours of life. God has snatched many of us from bad situations, keeping us out of jails, hospitals, mental institutions or safe from certain death. We don't mind acknowledging Him when we are in need, but after our storms are over we never tell others that the Lord helped us. How do we expect unbelievers to call on Him for help in a storm if we never share Him with others? Our story or testimonies make a world of difference in others' lives. Some could be enduring what you have already been through, looking for a way out. Can you help? Are you willing to tell them how God helped you? Our testimony gives God the glory for our lives. I have seen many people on television that were miraculously saved from a disaster or an incurable illness who gave the credit to "luck." God is the Master Mind and organizer of life. I've learn it is a privilege and honor to be given opportunity to share His amazing love and power and at the same time give someone else the opportunity to know Him. God desires all the glory from our lives, because our story is His-story (History). When has "luck" or anyone else crucified, died and rose again to save the world from sin and eternal damnation. If more believers would simply share with others what God has done for them, more hurting people would have something solid to lean on. We all know there is nothing as solid as God. If believers don't tell, then who will?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book on sexual abuse, written for and directly to children between the ages of five to ten years old. It is written in a comprehensive and easy-to-read manner, using concepts that this age group will find easy to follow and understand. This book will empower children, who find themselves in this situation, to know what to do and be able to get far away and tell somebody. Most children books, written on the subject of sexual abuse, tend to focus on the concept of Stranger Danger. Yet, in the past two decades, studies show that many of the sexual abuses occur with people children know and trust. Reports of sexual abuse around the world between children and priests, pastors, family members, neighbors and community leaders (people children know, love and trust) make this book crucial and essential for parents around the world to read it to their child. Studies also show that when children are abused by people they know and trust, they dont tell. Many of these children grow up to adulthood, displaying behavior problems, while many turn to drugs and alcohol to drown their pain or even suicide. More important, in some cases, these victims become abusers themselves, thus creating this vicious cycle of victim and abuser. Therefore, it is important to get children to feel safe enough to tell someone if they are abused; it is even more important to empower children to know the warning signs of a potential predator. This book can become a beacon of hope and a reminder to children who find themselves in situations that are noted in this book that they can feel safe when they tell somebody; thus children, no longer, will have to live in silent and in pain. Children also need to be reminded that there are many adults that they can love and trust. This book talks to children about how they can develop their awareness about this topic and empower them to act on it, if they find themselves in this situation.

Book excerpt: “WE NEED TO TALK.” In this urgent and insightful book, public radio journalist Celeste Headlee shows us how to bridge what divides us--by having real conversations BASED ON THE TED TALK WITH OVER 10 MILLION VIEWS NPR's Best Books of 2017 Winner of the 2017 Silver Nautilus Award in Relationships & Communication “We Need to Talk is an important read for a conversationally-challenged, disconnected age. Headlee is a talented, honest storyteller, and her advice has helped me become a better spouse, friend, and mother.” (Jessica Lahey, author of New York Times bestseller The Gift of Failure) Today most of us communicate from behind electronic screens, and studies show that Americans feel less connected and more divided than ever before. The blame for some of this disconnect can be attributed to our political landscape, but the erosion of our conversational skills as a society lies with us as individuals. And the only way forward, says Headlee, is to start talking to each other. In We Need to Talk, she outlines the strategies that have made her a better conversationalist—and offers simple tools that can improve anyone’s communication. For example: BE THERE OR GO ELSEWHERE. Human beings are incapable of multitasking, and this is especially true of tasks that involve language. Think you can type up a few emails while on a business call, or hold a conversation with your child while texting your spouse? Think again. CHECK YOUR BIAS. The belief that your intelligence protects you from erroneous assumptions can end up making you more vulnerable to them. We all have blind spots that affect the way we view others. Check your bias before you judge someone else. HIDE YOUR PHONE. Don’t just put down your phone, put it away. New research suggests that the mere presence of a cell phone can negatively impact the quality of a conversation. Whether you’re struggling to communicate with your kid’s teacher at school, an employee at work, or the people you love the most—Headlee offers smart strategies that can help us all have conversations that matter.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Young Men Surviving Child Sexual Abuse examines a largely neglected area in child protection: the sexual abuse of boys. Andrew Durham, a consultant social work practitioner, describes his original research undertaken with young men close to or in the midst of adolescence. The book features extensive narrative, as the life story approach taken allows the young men to theorise their own experience and to understand how and why child sexual abuse has had a harmful and long lasting impact on their day-to-day lives. Alongside the research stories the author presents a theoretical framework for understanding male sexual abuse, as well as a wide range of accessible practice materials. This book will be invaluable to those working with children and young people who are recovering from child sexual abuse.

Book excerpt: Navigating Differences: Friendships Between Gay and Straight Men is a one-of-a-kind cross-sexual study that shows you how today’s gay and straight men build, maintain, and foster true friendships. In this activist, participatory study, you’ll get a day-in-the-life look at 44 pairs of cross-sexual men’s friendships and see what helps them negotiate the terrain of their emotional, sexual, psychological, and social differences in today’s climate of often publicly defended homophobia and heterosexism. Navigating Differences succeeds in bringing the true picture of cross-sexual men’s relationships to you, regardless of your personal orientation or political affiliation. You’ll find information--straight from the lives of the study’s participants--that shows you how different sexual orientations impact the way men spend time together, maintain friendships, cope with sexual struggles, and open good communication channels. Most importantly, you’ll get detailed facts and feedback concerning: hegemonic masculinity embracing, struggling with, and ignoring differences group demographic characteristics embeddedness and emotional communication outness in-groups, out-groups, and reference groups Hearsay and prejudice might claim to know what gay and straight men think of each other, but Navigating Differences replaces rumors with research and shows you what really keeps gay and straight men in lasting friendships in all arenas of life. You’ll learn firsthand what it takes to overcome differences and what it means to turn difference into meaningful relationships.
