Notre objectif de recherche est d’évaluer son impact sur le sens du travail et les rapports vie de travail- vie hors travail. Nous comparons donc les dimensions du sens du travail et les échanges entre les domaines de vie auprès d’un échantillon de télétravailleurs et de travailleurs classiques au sein de deux organisations à statut juridique différent. Nous réalisons ensuite une analyse plus détaillée dans laquelle nous distinguons les formes de télétravail entre-elles. Les résultats prouvent que les rapports entre la vie de travail et la vie hors travail sont affectés par la forme d’emploi pratiquée. Alors que les travailleurs classiques séparent les domaines de vie, les télétravailleurs établissent des échanges de ressources entre leur vie professionnelle et leur vie privée au sein du groupe France Télécom. L’adoption de ce mode d’organisation du travail à distance influence aussi la représentation sociale du travail. Le travail ne se conçoit pas sans la notion de contraintes chez certaines catégories de télétravailleurs. Notre recherche montre combien le modèle du système des activités apporte un éclairage sur les mécanismes mis en jeu par les sujets pour gérer leur vie de travail et leur vie hors travail. Les apports de la théorie structurale des représentations sociales, pour identifier la représentation sociale du travail selon la forme de télétravail pratiquée et le type d’organisation étudiée, doivent également être soulignés. Les données recueillies dans les deux sociétés permettent de dresser un bilan positif du télétravail. D’autres implications pratiques et de nouvelles perspectives sont alors proposées.
