Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Software Telemetry is a guide to operating the telemetry systems that monitor and maintain your applications. It takes a big picture view of telemetry, teaching you to manage your logging, metrics, and events as a complete end-to-end ecosystem. You'll learn the base architecture that underpins any software telemetry system, allowing you to easily integrate new systems into your existing infrastructure, and how these systems work under the hood. Throughout, you'll follow three very different companies to see how telemetry techniques impact a greenfield startup, a large legacy enterprise, and a non-technical organization without any in-house development. You'll even cover how software telemetry is used by court processes--ensuring that when your first telemetry subpoena arrives, there's no reason to panic!

Test targets of telemetry in flight test include airplanes, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, aerostatics, carrier-based aircraft, airborne equipment (systems), weapon systems, (powered) aircraft scale models, aircraft external stores (e.g., nacelle, auxiliary tanks), and ejection seats and so on. The book collects the author's telemetry research work and presents methods that have been verified in real-world tests. The book has eight chapters: the first three discuss the theoretical basis of telemetry, while the other five focus on the methods used in flight tests.Unlike other professional textbooks, this book describes the practical telemetry theory and combines theory and engineering practice to offer a comprehensive and systematic overview of telemetry in flight test for readers.

Book excerpt: This thesis presents a system architecture for the U.S. Department of Transportation Intelligent Transportation System Mobile Observation research initiative whose purpose is to determine how localized, real-time winter weather, road condition, and vehicle-related data gathered by mobile, vehicle-based systems can be used to more effectively maintain roads, reduce operating costs through more efficient road maintenance, and improve responsiveness and accuracy of safety systems such as road condition warning systems and chain controls mounted on dynamic signs over major highways. The system architecture has been demonstrated to effectively collect heterogeneous data that arrives asynchronously from measurement instruments, validate the data, log it to on-board storage, select a subset of the collected data and relay it via the statewide Enhanced Digital Access Communications System bandwidth-limited radio network to a central server for analysis by data customers including the Federal Highway Administration and the National Center for Atmospheric Research. The architecture is fault-tolerant, facilitates remote debugging via its debug logs, and its operation is highly user-configurable.

This book was released on 2003-04-25 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: An embedded telemetry system has been designed and implemented into the solar-powered racing car Mad Dog 3 . The system shall assist strategists in making decisions during a solar car race. It delivers input data for a computer simulation model and for reconstruction of situations when failure occurred. System requirements have been analysed and the scope of solutions on the market has been explored. As a result, the choice of hardware and peripheral components has been made in favour of a microcomputer-based system. Strategy-relevant quantities in the solar car are measured by transducers and at the same time displayed on panel meters in the cockpit. Measured data are transmitted via a bus system to the central processing unit, which consists of the world s smallest PC. From the sensor signals the car s performance data is computed. As a result of computation, sets of performance data are sent to a laptop computer in one of the support vehicles by a pair of wireless modems. For safety reason, the system has been designed redundant. There is a digital device and a second analogue instrument for all key measurements. Communication equipment between the solar car driver and support staff has been reviewed and recommendations have been given. The project has been completed successfully, i.e. project aims have been reached. This was confirmed during a test drive. The range of the wireless modems has been proven satisfactory. CB radios have been shown not to be appropriate. There is a wide scope of additional investigation and supplementary features, due to the flexible nature of a microcomputer-based system. Instead of running multiple uncoordinated pipelines, OpenTelemetry provides users with a single integrated stream of data, providing multiple sources of high-quality telemetry data: tracing, metrics, logs, RUM, eBPF, and more. This practical guide shows you how to set up, operate, and troubleshoot the OpenTelemetry observability system. Authors Austin Parker, head of developer relations at Lightstep and OpenTelemetry Community Maintainer, and Ted Young, cofounder of the OpenTelemetry project, cover every OpenTelemetry component, as well as observability best practices for many popular cloud, platform, and data services such as Kubernetes and AWS Lambda. You'll learn how OpenTelemetry enables OSS libraries and services to provide their own native instrumentation—a first in the industry. Ideal for application developers, OSS maintainers, operators and infrastructure teams, and managers and team leaders, this book guides you through: The principles of modern observability All OpenTelemetry components—and how they fit together A practical approach to instrumenting platforms and applications Methods for installing, operating, and troubleshooting an OpenTelemetry-based observability solution Ways to roll out and maintain end-to-end observability across a large organization How to write and maintain consistent, high-quality instrumentation without a lot of work

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collecting load data from rotating wind system components is often an integral part of research and development performed at the Department of Energy's Wind Energy Research Center at Rocky Flats, Colorado. In order to avoid problems commonly encountered with conventional methods of data collection (i.e. signal noise caused by sliprings and the high cost of multi-channel telemetry systems), a unique digital telemetry system was designed using off-the-shelf components. This flexible system not only has reduced size and cost, when compared to a previously used telemetry system, but has also proved to be very accurate in actual application. The purpose of this report is to discuss the design and operation of this system, as well as the rationale for its use.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The latest update to Bela Liptak's acclaimed "bible" of instrument engineering is now available. Retaining the format that made the previous editions bestsellers in their own right, the fourth edition of Process Control and Optimization continues the tradition of providing quick and easy access to highly practical information. The authors are practicing engineers, not theoretical people from academia, and their from-the-trenches advice has been repeatedly tested in real-life applications. Expanded coverage includes descriptions of overseas manufacturer's products and concepts, model-based optimization in control theory, new major inventions and innovations in control valves, and a full chapter devoted to safety. With more than 2000 graphs, figures, and tables, this all-inclusive encyclopedic volume replaces an entire library with one authoritative reference. The fourth edition brings the content of the previous editions completely up to date, incorporates the developments of the last decade, and broadens the horizons of the work from an American to a global perspective. Béla G. Lipták speaks on Post-Oil Energy Technology on the AT&T Tech Channel.
