Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renewable Energy Powered Desalination Handbook: Applications and Thermodynamics offers a practical handbook on the use of renewable technologies to produce freshwater using sustainable methods. Sections cover the different renewable technologies currently used in the field, including solar, wind, geothermal and nuclear desalination. This coverage is followed by an equally important clear and rigorous discussion of energy recovery and the thermodynamics of desalination processes. While seawater desalination can provide a climate-independent source of drinking water, the process is energy-intensive and environmentally damaging. This book provides readers with the latest methods, processes, and technologies available for utilizing renewable energy applications as a valuable technology. Desalination based on the use of renewable energy sources can provide a sustainable way to produce fresh water. It is expected to become economically attractive as the costs of renewable technologies continue to decline and the prices of fossil fuels continue to increase. Covers renewable energy sources, such as nuclear, geothermal, solar and wind powered desalination and energy storage and optimization Includes energy recovery schemes, optimization and process controls Elaborates on the principles of thermodynamics and second law efficiencies to improve process performance, including solar desalination Explains global applicability of solar, wind, geothermal and nuclear energy sources with case studies Discusses renewable energy-desalinated water optimization schemes for island communities

Book Synopsis Desalination Research Progress by : Daniel J. Delgado
Download or read book Desalination Research Progress written by Daniel J. Delgado and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As freshwater resources continue to decline as the population grows and development activities continue, desalination has taken on a sense of urgency. Desalination refers to any of several processes that remove excess salt and other minerals from water. Desalination may also refer to the removal of salts and minerals more generally, as in soil desalination. This book includes within its scope distillation, membranes, reverse osmosis, electrodialysis, ion exchange, freezing, water purification, and water reuse and wastewater treatment. This new volume examines new research in this frontier field.

Book Synopsis The Salt-Gradient Solar Pond by : Susan Thomas Brown
Download or read book The Salt-Gradient Solar Pond written by Susan Thomas Brown and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The salt-gradient solar pond was modelled both experimentally and numerically. The experimental model used a small-scale tank with artificial sunlight. Both temperature and concentration measurements were taken. The numerical model used a one dimensional heat conduction model to describe the heating phenomena in the pond. The two models predicted the same type of behavior as that expected in full-scale ponds. There were small differences in the two models. These differences arose from simplifications in the numerical model. (Author).
