Book Synopsis Female Fans of the NFL by : Anne Cunningham Osborne
Download or read book Female Fans of the NFL written by Anne Cunningham Osborne and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-09-16 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past, sport, particularly football, has been defined as a male domain. Women’s interest stereotypically ranges from gentle tolerance to active resistance. But increasingly, women are proudly identifying themselves as supporters of their teams, and have become highly desirable audiences for sport organizations and merchandisers. Football provides a unique site at which to examine the complex interplay between three theoretical areas: identity formation and maintenance, commercialization of cultural practices, and gender hegemony. This book explores how women experience their fandom, and what barriers exist for the female fan.
Book Synopsis Pro Football's Most Passionate Fans by : Harvey " Steeler" Aronson
Download or read book Pro Football's Most Passionate Fans written by Harvey " Steeler" Aronson and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professional football is the most popular sport in the United States today. With so many famous players from the past and present, some of whom achieved notoriety because of a persona they created, there are fans who have also made a name for themselves by either their work and loyalty for their team, or by creating an alter ego with respect to how they cheer or support their team. Some have incredibly wild and outrageous outfits. On game days, some of these diehard fans take longer to get themselves ready for games than the players they cheer for! The face paint, the outrageous outfits, the chants and cheers, and the attention to detail are what make these fans unique. During football season, these diehard fans can be seen each weekend as they showcase themselves in support of their team in front of hundreds of thousands of viewers worldwide. In 1998, Visa sponsored a national contest to find the wildest, most loyal, and most intriguing fans for each team in the league. The award was entitled, The Visa Hall of Fans Award as fans were chosen from each team based on their submitted essays and photos. Contestants had to explain why they should represent their respective team in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. At the time, a special wing in the Hall was created to honor these diehard fans. Visa awarded plaques to the winners -- originally at the Hall, and later in front of the hometown fans at each team s stadium. The Hall of Fame displayed the plaques for a year until the new class of fans was selected and their plaques were displayed. At that point, the prior year s winners had their names placed on a permanent wall plaque in the Hall of Fans wing of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Since the days of the original Visa promotion, this group of honorees has carried on the tradition of recognizing ultimate fans each year. Some of the fans are easily recognizable by their outfits and their nicknames. Sadly, some have passed on. This book profiles and showcases many of those fans who were honored by Visa at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. As you read through the book, you will undoubtedly recognize many of these famous fans. But for those fans who are not so easily recognized as some, this book s aim is to illustrate that all of the fans who were honored by Visa possess as much passion, loyalty and enthusiasm as the next. So when you watch Pro Football this season and always, keep this book handy and when the cameras pan the NFL stadiums, see how many faces you can spot from the group that calls themselves .. Pro Football s Most Passionate Fans!

This book was released on 2017-11-15 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FEMA's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Training Instructor Guide is a critical program in the effort to engage everyone in America in making their communities safer, more prepared, and more resilient when incidents occur. Community-based preparedness planning allows you and others interested from your community to prepare for and respond to anticipated disruptions and potential hazards following a disaster. As individuals, we can prepare our homes and families to cope during that critical period. Through pre-event planning, neighborhoods and worksites can also work together to help reduce injuries, loss of lives, and property damage. Neighborhood preparedness will enhance the ability of individuals and neighborhoods to reduce their emergency needs and to manage their existing resources until professional assistance becomes available. The purpose of the CERT Basic Training is to provide you and others in your community who complete this course with the basic skills that they will need to respond to their community's immediate needs in the aftermath of a disaster, when emergency services are not immediately available. This course will be beneficial to individuals who desire the skills and knowledge required to prepare for and respond to a disaster. Instructors for these community courses usually range from skilled fire and rescue instructors that have completed the CERT Train-the Trainer course and are knowledgeable about the CERT model, different types of hazards that present greatest risks for communities, local building structures that may present greatest hazard in disaster events, community's emergency operation plans, and licensed Paramedics or Emergency Medical Technicians and nurses for providing hands-on knowledge relating to disaster medical operations Related items: FEMA's companion product-- CERT Basic Training Participant Manualcan be found here: https: //bookstore.gpo.gov/products/sku/027-002-00627-5 Emergency Management & First Responders publications can be found here: https: //bookstore.gpo.gov/catalog/security-defense-law-enforcement/emerg... Book Synopsis Representations of Sports Coaches in Film by : Katharina Bonzel
Download or read book Representations of Sports Coaches in Film written by Katharina Bonzel and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-11 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ground-breaking interdisciplinary collection brings together leading international scholars working across the humanities and social sciences to examine ways in which representations of sports coaching in narrative and documentary cinema can shape and inform sporting instruction. The central premise of the volume is that films featuring sports coaches potentially reflect, reinforce or contest how their audiences comprehend the world of coaching. Despite the growing interest in theories of coaching and in the study of the sports film as a genre, specific analyses of filmic depictions of sports coaches are still rare despite coaches often having a central role as figures shaping the values, social situation and cultural expectations of the athletes they train. By way of a series of enlightening and original studies, this volume redresses the relative neglect afforded to sports coaching in film and simultaneously highlights the immense value that research in this emerging field has for sporting performance and social justice. This book was originally published as a special issue of the journal Sports Coaching Review.
